[Qgis-user] Layers not showing when .QGS file opened via shared drive

2017-04-19 Thread Baker, Matthew
Hi all,

I'm having an issue where a .QGS file created on a shared drive then opened
from another computer doesn't display any of the layers, though the information
seems to be still in the QGS file.

Attached (hopefully) is an example of this problem.

Can anyone see if there is something missing from the file that is preventing
the layers from displaying?

Thanks!

Re: [Qgis-user] Layers not showing when .QGS file opened via shared drive

2017-04-19 Thread Árni Geirsson
I have had a problem where layers did not show up, only layer groups, that
I traced to the presence of a virtual layer. After removing that in a text
editor, the problem was solved.

[Qgis-user] Layers not showing when .QGS file opened via shared drive

2017-04-19 Thread Baker, Matthew
Hi all,

(Sending this again without an attachment)

I'm having an issue where a .QGS file created on a shared drive then opened
from another computer doesn't display any of the layers, though the information
seems to be still in the QGS file.

In the .QGS file linked below, when opened in notepad, I can see all the layer
styling and connection information, but why doesn't it show the layers when
opened in QGIS?

https://www.dropbox.com/s/udz8eb80u1i7lgp/Melissa_Compare_GeocodeV2%20-%20bug%20report.qgs?dl=0

The map was created and opened using the same version of QGIS on both client
machines.

Can anyone see if there is something missing from the file that is preventing
the layers from displaying?

Thanks!

Re: [Qgis-user] Join multiple Linestrings to single Linestring

2017-04-19 Thread Richard McDonnell
Another option, you could try is using the*Advanced Digitising Toolbar*
under *View, Toolbars
*Select the lines you want to merge/Join and click *Merge Selected
Features*.

This should also allow you to edit the DB directly from QGIS.
I have not tried it, so your issue with Multi-Lines instead of single
linestrings may still apply.
You could still use the above example on the locally saved version of
the table though and upload and overwrite the changed dataset.

Sorry I cant be of more help.
Reagrds,

Richard.

Hi Richard,

thanks for your suggestion! I think Dissolve won’t work for me as it’s
applied to the whole layer (hope I understood this right). I’m looking
for a way to easily merge certain linestrings when I, for example,
want to create one geometry by first creating a spline and then a
straight line feature. I will try out your workaround with local
files. But as the db-source is very large (> 500.000 rows) I’m happy
for any other suggestion to solve it directly in QGIS with db-source.

Benjamin,
You could try Dissolve, under Geoprocessing Tools, alternatively you
could try saving the dataset locally as a shapefile, edit using either
of the methods you outlined below, In relation to saving the edits
back to the table as linestring, use the DB Manager tool, select the
table you wish to update, tick the options you want, making sure both
*Replace destination Table (if exists) *and*Create single-part
geometries instead of multi-part* This has worked for me in the past,
admittedly for polygons, but it should also work for linestrings.

Hope this helps,

Richard.

idea how to directly merge into linestring or how to change geometry type after merging? Thanks for
your suggestions!

I'm not sure I completely understand what you want but you could run

multipart to singleparts from the Vector/Geometry Tools menu on the

multilinestring layer to generate a layer with just linestrings.

Best regards

[Qgis-user] QGIS Loads Black (Blank) Image For PostGIS Out-Db Raster Data

2017-04-19 Thread Osahon Oduware
Hi All,

I have an out-db raster on PostGIS which I tried to load in QGIS (v
2.14.12-Essen) utilizing the DB Manager to establish a connection. I could
view the raster table, but when I try to "Add to canvas" it displays a
black (blank) image instead of the raster image.

This raster file exist on the filesystem and when it is loaded directly
into QGIS it displays the image (aerial photo). Also, when the same file is
stored in PostGIS as a raster (IN-DB), it can be viewed in QGIS (using the
DB Manager tool). However, when I reference the same file as an OUT-DB
raster in PostGIS (in this case only the metadata of the raster and the
filepath to the raster file is stored), an attempt to view it in QGIS
(using the DB Manager tool) results in a black image being displayed
instead of the aerial photo.

I would be glad if someone could help me to resolve this.

Re: [Qgis-user] New layer from current view

2017-04-19 Thread phi73
Hi all,

i have solved it for myself by using the „processing toolbox“
and create a layer for the selected objects (by rectangle)

however: many thanks for your alternatives

There's an easier way -

- right click the layer you want to save, click 'save as'
- tick the 'extent' check box and click 'map view extent'

done!

Hi Pat

I think the best would be if yo could share your data (or part of it) and
if you could tell us more about what you want to analyse.

Cheers
