[Qgis-user] Where to install sklearn on Linux?

2024-06-03 Thread Drew French via QGIS-User
Hello there,
I learned how to do this last year but forgot - I would like to use the
SmartMap plugin for geostatistics, and I need to install the scikit-learn
python library on my Linux machine. I remember I solved this by installing
QGIS in a conda environment, but I would like to sidestep all that and
simply install sklearn in a QGIS folder and get back to work. Thanks for
any thoughts.

QGIS version

3.34.1-Prizren

QGIS code revision

133927424d9

Qt version

5.15.3

Python version

3.10.12
on
Linux Mint 21 Cinnamon 5.4.12

Thanks!

Re: [Qgis-user] Raster reverts to old Min/Max

2024-05-28 Thread Drew French via QGIS-User
Thanks Richard, I will check that out. On a relatively unrelated note, on a
raster, if I go to Symbology window, click on Transparency, and accidently
leave the Transparency Band option on Band 1, the raster will appear half
transparent regardless of what you do in the Symbology tab. I was flummoxed
for a while until I found that out.

[Qgis-user] Raster reverts to old Min/Max

2024-05-28 Thread Drew French via QGIS-User
Hi all,
I have two DEMs, one is the whole USA, the other is a watershed. They
obviously have two different raster Min/Max levels, based on elevation.
When I adjust the watershed DEM to my liking, I then right click, copy the
style, and right click the USA DEM to paste the style. So far, so good, I
did this a thousand times in the past without a problem. Now, though, when
I adjust anything in the USA DEM, it reverts right back to the old Min/Max.
Anybody else have this issue and what do you think is going on?
Using 3.34.1 Prizren

[Qgis-user] Print Layout Vertical Aligment

2021-07-15 Thread Drew French
Has anybody else noticed that in some text boxes in print layout the
vertical alignment is completely off? Center will go to top, top will go to
bottom and bottom will disappear for me occasionally, seemingly at random.
Sometimes it is random. Any thoughts?

Re: [Qgis-user] Rasters in print layout are not aligned 3.20

2021-07-08 Thread Drew French
Yes they are the same CRS. The weird thing is everything is aligned
correctly in the map canvas, basemaps are where they should be etc...I
switched over to 3.16 and everything works fine there in print layout, but
then when I switch back to 3.20 the problem is still in print layout, using
the same files of course. Anither quirk is if I zoom in, my vector layers
will be correct, but the raster layers change size, ie resolution.

Re: [Qgis-user] Missing plugins in version 3.20

2021-07-07 Thread Drew French
Using 3.20 on Linux Mint, no problems with any plugins or anything as of
now. I actually migrated over from Windows as well in the last month and
I've had to upload all my projects from disc- Worked remarkably well,
luckily I had them saved as relative paths.I had to change some file
locations as I had new file structure, but even print templates worked
well, except for some reason made many fonts bold. No plugin issues, but
then again I was starting from scratch and just downloaded the essential
plugins as needed.

Re: [Qgis-user] PDAL to the rescue

2021-07-03 Thread Drew French
Thanks Luigi - I am a beginner with json pipelines and python scripts, as
well as PDAL, but am learning how useful this workflow is. When you switch
from clicking buttons to understanding the code you get a much better grasp
of what is happening behind the scenes, as well as your actual work needs.

I did create a json pipeline and used PDAL command "pipeline" in the
terminal. I know I should be using Conda but I still haven't understood the
need for Conda quite yet, if anybody can explain that a little more. Is it
okay to simply use the terminal or should I be using Conda?

I am also trying to learn Julia in order to use Circuitscape and that is a
whole nother ball of wax. There really are no beginner tutorials on a lot
of these more specialized applications one is expected to understand quite
a bit of code before even attempting to use some of them.

Thanks,

Andrew

[Qgis-user] PDAL to the rescue

2021-07-02 Thread Drew French
I just wanted to share a quick story with you - I recently switched over to
Linux from Windows and it has been interesting - overall very positive but
a definite learning curve going on here. I was just beginning to work with
LIDAR data and I realized I hadn't set up LASTools and Fusion in QGIS 3.20
and I quickly learned this was not going to be an easy endeavor on a Linux
machine. As I use point clouds fairly often this was alarming. But then I
remembered that 3.20 has LIDAR support built in, and I quickly opened up a
las file and found it to be easy and intuitive to use if you know the QGIS
GUI. Styling and so on is a breeze, and I huge thank you from me to the
developers as I am sure this was a large amount of work to bring to
fruition.

But then I realized that I didn't have any of my old tools to create DEMs
and that was one of the most important things I do on a weekly basis with
point cloud data. I began to look into PDAL and was able to simply create a
quick DEM using PDAL in my terminal following a tutorial online. That was
actually easier and simpler than my other workflow, so now I will be
learning more about PDAL as I go forward.

Just wanted to note that it seems that if you are willing to learn how to
use PDAL, then it seems to me that LASTools and Fusion are kind of obsolete
with this new version of QGIS. Let me know if that seems accurate.

Thanks again to all the developers of QGIS,

Andrew French

Re: [Qgis-user] Sum of field value within same cluster

2021-06-22 Thread Drew French
What if you create a class field based on areas defined by polygons and
then summed those classes? Then you can also use that field in your print
layout as well, which you cannot do using expressions.

[Qgis-user] Unable to use Raster Calc in Modeller

2021-06-11 Thread Drew French
The native raster calculator does not seem to work in the Graphic Modeller
when you use an algorithm result instead of an input. This is very
frustrating as I wanted to build a model that relies on the calculator for
the final output. I don't have an example but it is as simple as taking an
original DEM, running it through an algorithm to extract a category of
values, and then subtracting those values from the original. The formula is
good - I tested it out in the normal processing toolbox, it works great!
But I want to take that into a model so I can batch process. Thanks for any
thoughts

[Qgis-user] Keyframing layers

2021-06-03 Thread Drew French
Am I correct in understanding that saving a keyframe in a 3D View does not
keyframe the visible layers, i.e keyframing has no effect on visible
vector/raster/mesh layers? I ask because I would like to keyframe a
sequence that includes turning various layers off and on at different
times. Has anyone been able to do this within QGIS? Thank you for your
thoughts.
