Just for the record: I also don't like the move, I also feel the same pain and
I also think you're normal.

To make it worse the advertised discourse mailing list option apparently
doesn't work well - at least for "normal" people (see

The environment variable TEMP in your windows user profile is probably pointing
at D:\TMP and most software which is creating temporary files there. So that
should not affect only QGIS.

Did you remove D:/TMP or even D: by any chance?

Maybe also because your %TEMP% points nowhere sensible (anymore)?

But that also gives an sensible explanation - or didn't that also happen to you
when using the color picker?

Otherwise that warning would make sense: QGIS needs to "look" outside it's own
window if you want to pick a color from elsewhere and macOS warns you about
that "recording", because it cannot tell whether the application did that
deliberately or upon your request.

That "screen recording" is related to color picking and mac in some tickets.
Eg.

https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues/48030
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues/51592

So I guess that's ok. But I've never seen it as I don't use a Mac.

Sure, because that is the actual result (or the main part of it).

qgis-build-deps is just an empty package from mk-build-deps that depends on all
packages which qgis needs to build. So it installing what apt-get build-dep
would, just for the dependencies of the current source (listed in
debian/control) and not the package in the repository.

Both contain ghostscript as dependency of GRASS. OSGeo4W was updated to

qgis-server and python3-qgis share dependencies. You need to upgrade
python3-qgis too or remove it. Or remove all qgis packages before switch from
stock ubuntu packages to qgis.org packages.

There is no standard for QGIS installations ;)

We don't ship GDAL with QGIS on Debian/Ubuntu, but build with the available
version of the distribution.

You are apparently on jammy - ubuntugis has GDAL 3.6.2 for jammy.
Ubuntu lunar has 3.6.2 natively.

QGIS uses what your distribution offers.

Ubuntu lunar has GDAL 3.6.2 - kinetic only 3.5.1. (see
https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=gdal=names=all=all)
ubuntugis has GDAL 3.6.2 for jammy - but not for non-lts kinetic (see

The content column contains the qgz file. To decode and update it you could do
something like this:

from PyQt5.QtCore import QByteArray
from PyQt5.QtSql import QSqlDatabase, QSqlQuery, QSql
from io import BytesIO
from zipfile import ZipFile, ZIP_DEFLATED

db = QSqlDatabase.addDatabase("QPSQL")
db.setConnectOptions("service=…")
db.open()

q = QSqlQuery(db)
q.exec_("SELECT content,metadata,name FROM qgis_projects WHERE
name='project-name'")
q.next()

inzip = BytesIO(q.value(0))
outzip = BytesIO()

metadata = q.value(1)
name = q.value(2)

iz = ZipFile(inzip)
oz = ZipFile(outzip, mode='w', compression=ZIP_DEFLATED)

for m in iz.namelist():
data = iz.read(m)
if m.endswith(".qgs"):
data = data.decode('UTF-8')

# modify projects XML in data

oz.writestr(m, data.encode("UTF-8"))
else:
oz.writestr(m, data)

oz.close()

q.prepare("UPDATE qgis_projects SET content=:content,metadata=:metadata WHERE
name=:name")
v = QByteArray(outzip.getvalue())
q.bindValue(":content", v, QSql.In | QSql.Binary)
q.bindValue(":metadata", metadata)
q.bindValue(":name", name)
q.exec_()

AFAIK we have such a certificate and the installer is signed, but after that

Doesn't look like there's a DLL missing - but maybe there's an incompatible
one. The opencl.dll present in system32 is still used. You could try to
rename it and recheck and updated it with the version in OSGeo4W (as the
installer probably would; see also https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues/44806).

opencl.dll might be an issue - if the machine you installed on/from has a newer
opencl.dll in system32 it's removed from OSGeo4W, but might be missing on some
clients.

Try installing from OSGeo4W, but include the api-ms-win-core-path-HACK package.

Well, || is the standard syntax, but there are probably also databases that
will take + to concatenate strings too. It's SQLite:

https://docs.qgis.org/3.28/en/docs/user_manual/managing_data_source/create_layers.html#supported-query-language

14.2.5.2. Supported query language

The underlying engine uses SQLite and SpatiaLite to operate.

Not sure which engine virtual layers actually use, but I'd try || instead of +

As in

sqlite> select '%' || 'foo' || '%';
%foo%

instead of

sqlite> select '%' + 'foo' + '%';

BTW that's probably new in OSGeo4W since the switch to GDAL 3.5. Earlier
MSSQL support was also built in and the plugin would just add support for bulk
copy.

QGIS has a native MSSQL provider and doesn't need GDAL/OGR with MSSQL support.
But you can install gdal-mss (from OSGeo4W setup; also included in the
standalone) to add that.

> Now I'm asked to add an geography attribute to one table that has already an

I would have thought that would be a two liner in SQL. But I wasn't awar that
MSSQL doesn't have st_transform - if that's still the case. But you can also
do the second step in QGIS.

Suppose you have a table foo with a geometry column, via browser add a
geography column using execute SQL:

ALTER TABLE foo ADD geog geography

Add the layer with the original geometry column and execute in field calculator
to the
geog field:

geom_to_wkt(transform($geometry, 'EPSG:25832', 'EPSG:4326'))

No, the nightlies are not packaged as msi. But you could use
scripts/createmsi.pl[1] to make one. See msis.sh[1] for an example use (but
you'd need to skip the signing parts as the signing certificate is not public).

Not sure - I use cygwin's bash and with that it works. Other shells might
behave differently.

msys for instance has problems with plain /c in the cmd call and needs //c (see
https://github.com/OSGeo/grass/blob/main/mswindows/osgeo4w/package.sh#L33)

Try set -x to get some more insight what it does and where it hangs. It might
take a few seconds, but no minute.

Sorry, I was implying that you're shell savy and pointers were enough.
Copy fetchenv to your .profile and run it from there (or once you want to run
osgeo4w stuff).

…
fetchenv() {
…
}

fetchenv /c/OSGeo4W/bin/o4w_env.bat
…

It runs cmd to get a clean copy of the environment and once more with
o4w_env.bat to get the updated version and then works out the differences,
makes them shell digestable and sources them to the running shell.

Also works with other software that provides batch files to update the
environment (like msvc, strawberry perl, venvs in python - just to name the few
the osgeo4w build scripts use it for).

Not sure if I get your point. Are you trying to build or run QGIS?

To run it you don't need the build dependencies. Installing them
should however still not lead to a login failure. But as you're not even
installing QGIS, that's not an QGIS issue.

If you don't use the qgis.org repository (or ubuntugis) you get the version of
QGIS jammy offers - and that is 3.22.4 (see
https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=qgis=names=jammy=all)

Adapt fetchenv
https://github.com/jef-n/OSGeo4W/blob/master/scripts/build-helpers#L107 to your
shell and fetchenv /c/OSGeo4W/bin/o4w_env.bat. That way you should get all

which was even executed initializing of the tiledb support, which was happening

The nightlies are not actual nightlies anymore. The previous run - producing
the release and master builds - start on Mon Dec 20 14:31:15 UTC 2021 and ended
on Fri Dec 24 00:27:05 UTC 2021. And the current run started Sat Dec 25
00:03:09 UTC 2021 and feeds the nightlies, which built 3.22.2 for ubuntu focal,
focal-ubuntugis, groovy, hirsute and impish and is currently on debian
bullseye - debian unstable, the builds of release-3_16 and master will follow
after that.

The release nightlies have the same version number as the current release as
the point number is incremented on release.

That'd be wrong, because there is no LTR express target in the old installer.
It was added to the new installer and that's why the wording was changed there.

No, you should pick the express target QGIS LTR (which is qgis-ltr-full in
advanced mode).

But you can pick qgis-ltr if you don't want the optional dependencies,
qgis-ltr-full comes with.

qgis has all necessary dependencies.

qgis-full is a meta package depends on qgis and has optional dependencies
(grass, saga, ecw, oracle, filegdb, optional python extensions needed by
popular plugins etc.). And it doesn't have any own files, so the version
number doesn't matter.

qgis-full is also the package selection that the standalone installer is made
from.

No, it points you to the express targets. It doesn't point to qgis-ltr-full
anymore, because there's now an express target for QGIS LTR too (which is
qgis-ltr-full).

It just says that you should install qgis or qgis-ltr if you don't want the
proprietary dependencies that come with qgis-*full.

Hm, apparently running %PYTHONHOME%\python instead of just python in
python-qgis-ltr.bat causes this. No exactly sure why, but w/o it will just
import Qt. I guess when run from bin it also finds DLLs there, which it
otherwise doesn't - although bin is in PATH.

QGIS imports qgis (and also uses AddDllDirectory directly)

This issue is due to Python 3.9. It doesn't use PATH to find DLLs anymore.
Thereore the qgis module now splits PATH and uses os.add_dll_directory on each,
After that it should behave as before. So your fix should be to import qgis
first.

BTW the latest LTR is also in old osgeo4w and should be not affected.

The "Standalone installers (MSI) [are made] from OSGeo4W packages". So it
applies to both. Both have Python 3.9 and that gave up on Windows 7.

The LTR however is also available from the old repo and that still works on
Windows 7.

That's just a cherry on the top. So many things to do, so little time:

https://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/qgis-developer/2021-March/063351.html

A change list (and it's continuous maintanance and maybe infrastructure) that
is easier to digest, than the pure changes, is a very welcome contribution.

But until there are volunteers for that, you probably have no other choice than
to adapt your expectations.

But is size an issue? I mean if it really was people would not be insisting
on a single huge blob installer, if there is a way to update just the newer
bits through the osgeo4w installer (ignoring that wouldn't work for the current
transition either).

Anyway, IIRC the proj downloads would need to happen transparently as the
transformation does - possibly coordinated between several threads that etc.pp.
And there was no easy take on that.

It's PROJ that can download grids - but QGIS doesn't support that.

A lot of the dependencies are different, a newer compiler was used,
compression might be different.

But it probably just proj-data and numpy. proj/share has ~580MB in the new
installer while its only 14MB in the old. numpy with mkl is 600MB vs. numpy
w/o 45MB in the old.

After all proj-data blocked the update from PROJ 6 to 7 for a while since that
alone would have exceeded NSIS 2 GB limit.

Meaning the testing installer? Upgrading a existing installs to testing is not
supported. Install fresh or keep using the old repo - which also has 3.18 (but
without all the new dependencies and therefore w/o point cloud support).

The default python in testing is 3.9 and gdal_calc from testing expects that,
but the default python in the old repo is python 2.7, which is apparently what
you have. So it looks like you tried to upgrade your existing install, which as
said will not work.

Well, not there. It should probably be moved to osgeo first - but there I
can't create repos. I also created one at git.osgeo.org a while ago, but
didn't push it there either yet.

And yes, reviving (and probably extending) the github workflow based on this is
intended. But there are also people suggesting to kill it all in favor of
snakes - and to do cpr on the dead horse the old repo is. Not from the same
people of course.

My next stop would be continuing with the MSI standalone, based on the packages
from the new repo (should be almost ready - but I need to recollect the bits).

The latest release feeds the qgis.org/debian (and ubuntu) and the latest ltr
branch feeds the qgis.org/debian-ltr (and ubuntu-ltr) repo, unless the latest
ltr is also the latest release in that case it's the previous ltr release that
feeds debian-ltr.

Newer packages replace the previous ones. Those which don't have updates stay.
Either because they have a previous version number in their name or belong to a
distribution that is no longer built and those stay.

The administrator rights were mainly necessary to install the MS runtimes - and
earlier we used a number of them, for a lot of packages didn't keep track
of which required which, therefore didn't surely know which one could be left
out. The older ones and the newer one don't have to be installed, but
inbetween there where some in between did.

Now everything is built with one compiler (except GRASS) and requires only one
runtime, which doesn't require installation - just dropping the DLLs in is
enough.

But conflicting DLLs in system32 might still be an issue. The installer only
addresses a few common ones like openssl and opencl - and if you need those,
you'll not get around running the installer elevated.

QGIS itself is less vulnerable to such issues as it uses
AddDllDirectory/SetDefaultDllDirectories to avoid system32's otherwise
prominent role.

Thinking of it, we might need to add that to crssync too - it inherited a lot
of indirect dependencies when GDAL/OGR became a core provider.

[Qgis-user] QGIS 3.18.0 and QGIS 3.14.4 (LTR) packages released and OSGeo4W reboot

2021-02-23 Thread Jürgen E . Fischer
Hi there,

I'm happy to announce that the QGIS packages of 3.16.4 (LTR) 'Hannover' and the
our latest release 3.18.0 'Zürich' are ready on
https://qgis.org/de/site/forusers/download.html. This includes Linux, Mac and
Windows packages. With the availability of a new regular release the current
long-term release 3.16 replaces the previous long-term release 3.10 in the long
term package repositories.

The Windows standalone installer are as usual made from the OSGeo4W packages.

In OSGeo4W there has lately been a big effort to reboot it, meaning that it has
been completely rebuilt using newer source versions of mostly every package
using a newer compiler. As this happened shortly before the QGIS release the
new packages are still in a separate repository for testing.

You can install them using the osgeo4w installer on
http://download.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/testing/osgeo4w-setup.exe (note the testing -
the old installer will also work, if you point it to the new site, but it will
default to the old).

Within the reboot a lot of old packages were dropped (including dependencies to
old microsoft runtimes), new packages were introduced and also package names
were revised.

Long story short: you cannot upgrade from old installs and have to remove and
reinstall or use a separate directory. As the new OSGeo4W only supports 64bit
the default root directory was changed to C:\OSGeo4W, which might help with
that if you were on 64bit earlier.

Also note that it now only has one version of Python - namely 3.9, which
doesn't support Windows 7 anymore. Other updates include Qt 5.15, GDAL 3.2,
PROJ 7.2 and SAGA 7.8.

It also has PDAL 2.2 which is required for native support of point clouds in
QGIS - something that you find lacking in the "old" OSGeo4W repository and in
turn in the current standalones.

The new installer also doesn't require administrator privileges anymore.
Unless you run it elevated (ie. as Administrator) the option to create
shortcuts for all users will be unavailable.

The testing repository will eventually replace the old repository and also be
used to make standalone installers. As it has grown to exceed the 2GB limit
of NSIS the standalone installers will then be switched to MSI.

The package recipes currently reside at https://github.com/jef-n/OSGeo4W.

Please test and report packaging issues to the OSGeo4W TRAC at
https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo4w.

clCreateCommandQueueWithProperties points to opencl.

Try to reinstall the opencl package.

Just between GRASS and RStudio. See https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/ticket/641

IMHO a basic linux user should not use an not yet released version of Debian in

Bullseye is debian (but as ubuntu is a symlink to debian that doesn't matter
anyway) and not yet supported. You could try unstable.

See the "advanced" debian/ubuntu section.

Did you install pyodbc? It's not a dependencies of qgis and hence an optional

qgis-ltr-full itself is empty and therefore it's version number doesn't really
matter. It's just a meta package that depends on a set of other packages - one
of them is qgis-ltr and that's at 3.10.x.

GDAL is what is being used to access raster and vector files.

ubuntugis provides more uptodate packages including GDAL and PRØJ. So to use
those we normally have also qgis builds based on ubuntugis in
https://qgis.org/ubuntugis next to those for the plain ubuntu release in
https://qgis.org/ubuntu. The former also requires adding the ubuntugis
unstable repository.

Currently we can work with GDAL2 from plain ubuntu and although we could work
with GDAL3, we cannot use GDAL 3 from ubuntugis, because we also require PRØJ
6.3.1 and ubuntugis only provides 6.2.1.

So there are no current builds for ubuntugis and therefore for bionic you
should remove all the packages you installed from https://qgis.org/ubuntugis or
the ubuntugis repo and install from https://qgis.org/ubuntu instead.

So the GeoPDF creation in 3.10 should now also be available to Windows users.
