Richard At least on Wintel, ide-cd and ide-scsi should always be compiled as a modules... this does work, slightly impractical as it makes it more difficult to use the same kernel for rescue/installation and production use. Richard Except that on the latest 2.4.22 and later it should be possible to use writer as a ATAPI device directly and on kernel 2.6 one should be able to write to /dev/hdx with cdrecord 2.x ...
