I think that my Pictures will be more to Malcolm's taste than yours,
Dilwyn.( I'm trying to find them Malcolm.
Please can we have at least one extra month next year (Quantember?) but
please remember it only needs 3 1/2 days in it!! - 1 for the AGM, 1 for
 the
Workshop - 1 for the committee meeting and half a day's travelling time to
cover them all. At least that will leave the rest of the year free for
 other
activities like PC Hurling - must challenge Dilwyns Gold medal next year!
and Wine glass smashing, anyone want to take on the chairman?, Napkin
stealing surely noone can beat the Other Editor and finally Vegitarian
Duck Breeding - any guesses which Branch holds this gong?

Just found out that my Dictionary gives the definition for QUANTA as:
a)a discrete quantity of energy proportional in magnitude to the
frequency of radiation it represents OR
b)an analogous discret amount of any other phisical quality

Does that explain QUANTA's discrete physical qualities?

Has anyone else entered into the festive season yet?

 Regards,

John Gilpin - after unmulled wine and no mince pies!!(aka 1994 vintage
Rioja, Apple pie tomorrow) (perhaps only the Chairman will get this
 reference. JG.)
An extra month next year (Quantember?) - would need AGM 2007 approval

Mince pies arrived 25 November. No gluhwein available until magazine
complete - perhaps 14 December

Regards

John Mason

[ql-users] Colour themes

2006-11-28 Thread Malcolm Cadman
Hi,

I have just received QLToday Vol 11, Issue 2.

Reading Dilwyn's article on Colour Themes has reminded me that Wolfgang
Uhlig's QCoCo is indeed the easy way to apply a colour theme. Yet there
is a delay in effect, as it is only subsequent actions that Apply the
new colour scheme.

That is when you click on Apply, nothing appears to have happened.

The action required is to close the existing window of the
application, and to re-open it - then the new colour theme is applied.

I tend to use the gold theme, as this fits in with the default choice
of Tim Hunkins's QDT.

Question for Dilwyn - how do you set a colour theme in Launchpad ? You
make a brief mention of it in the article, yet with no example of how.

The Launchpad Help instructions also make brief mention, in part 8
System Settings, yet again no clear explanation -

You can also set screen saver details and background colour or image on
systems supporting these facilities. Play around with Colour Themes if
you know about this facility and your system supports high colour.

Any further illumination on this ... ?

In addition I find that when the gold theme, or any other is applied,
from QCoCo, that Launchpad loses most of its pre-defined Application
program icons - replaced by either a mouse pointer icon or CF9.

Re: [ql-users] Colour themes

2006-11-28 Thread Matrassyl
Hi Malcolm

On Launchpad
The MyQL Menu - Display sub menu - System palette item : set to a theme
file using the pop down file menu eg Win1_Launchpad_green_theme and click on
OK. Thats it I think.
Dilwyn will give the definitive answer.

Why has your QLToday arrived before mine. What to I need to do to get
preferential treatment as well?

I'm googling like mad, and can't find anything. I'm giving my friend
my spare QL system, and I want to give her some software with it

anything which will interpret Infocom adventures?

Takes forever copying microdrives! I'd forgotten! And this is with
 the wcopy command!
With qpac2 it is easy.
FORMAT ram1_mdv1_

This does a quick direct sector read and flags files that will not copy.
Repeated use will often recover files.

Re: [ql-users] The Quill, Infocom?

2006-11-28 Thread Timothy Swenson
There is a Infocom Interpreter (called ZIP) and game creator using the
Inform language. They can both be found at the following location:

Game Player
http://www.dilwyn.uk6.net/games/infocom.zip

Game Creator
http://www.dilwyn.uk6.net/games/inform.zip

The player comes with some sample games. Freeware games are available on
the Net (search for Inform and Interactive Fiction). Inform game files
from the PC (Zork, Deadline, etc) will work in the QL if you have them and
port them over. I've tested out Zork and it ran fine.

I think I have a CD full of stuff like this that someone sent me a few
years ago.
