[Ql-Users] PCB Cad

2009-10-06 Thread Dilwyn Jones
Some users have reported difficulty with the latest zip file of
Malcolm Lear's PCB Cad on the Graphics page on my website.

In some cases it gave an error message amounting to last disk of the
multidisk archive missing.

This seems to have come about because it got corrupted being copied
from one machine to another here on a pen drive.

I've uploaded it again and it should be fine now. Apologies for the
mistake.

Maybe a little mention of the QL Wiki, which is continuing to build nicely :-)

Perhaps too small a mention ?
Thought I would take a peek, no link here or on your web sites - had to
Google for it.

Surprised no mention of Chas Dillon, I have bot found an editor to match,
or evn come close, to his.

Well you are welcome to add details to the wiki - I have not got around
to adding Chas or the Digital Precision products yet - there is only so
much I can do on my own!

There is a link on the home page of my rwap software website.

Per Witte - Wet tripe

Dilwyn Llewellyn Jones: Linen jolly lewdly sewn

Tony Firshman - Mannish forty (only 24 years out!)

George D Gwilt - Giggled or wet

My mind runs along different lines. I often find myself nick-naming
people, although Ive never analysed the underlying rules too carefully.

Thus Per Vert, Tory Freshman, Billy Bones and, as weve seen, Giggler.
Mostly I keep them to myself. (No offence intended or given, I trust
;o) Ive been given many names by others too. When I worked for HP I
was known as Twisted Per by the guys in the networking department. I
hope Wet Tripe wont catch on, though, as the very thought makes me

Any other DNA (National Dyslexic Association) members here, BTW?

Not a member, nor is Ben. I forget his name, but a QLer, from
Portsmouth I think, is. He was (is) responsible for the DAN website
(got the joke . eventually).
Anyway I told him that Ben had been diagnosed dsylexic - specifically
the physical act of writing and other things. He was permitted to use a
computer for exams, and it made a *huge* difference. He was able to
finish them at last!
He sent a checklist - If you can tick 5 or more then you are dyslexic
in some way.
I got to 6 immediately, and forgot Ben! Seven I was the only OK one.
The latter ones were uncanny.
The last was the killer. Good at lateral thinking and bad at rote
learning. In general therefore not good at rote subjects like languages
and history and arts subjects in general (except photography and art) -
their brackets. That was *exactly* me at school, but dyslexia hadn't
yet been 'invented' (8-)# I was always runner-up in science to John
Barbara, who went on to head the London blood transfusion service. In
the 5th form (just before sixth form!) I tried hard (in sciences that
is) but was again pipped by JAJB. I though won the art prize (and chose
a chemistry book as a prize).

Oh yes, Sarah is as well, and didn't read or write effectively untul she
was nine, but has two degrees.

so poor Ben didn't stand a chance.
He is now at Warwick studying computing. He is finding it very easy -
and got a good first (of course) last year.

No, that's a QPC exclusive. Until quite recently even the WIN devices
were hard-linked (WIN1 - C:\QXL.WIN, WIN2 - D:\QXL.WIN etc.)
