Re: [Ql-Users] PDF files (was Undue modesty?)

Morning Tony,

Edit-Preferences (or Tools-Preferences accordingly

Neither.
All apps preferences are under the program name menu and have been in Leopard,
Snow Leopard and Lion. Your OS must be old!

 Linux - OpenSuse 11.4 64 bit. Firefox 5.0.

I have only ever seen Macs running OS-X as a neighbour used to have one.
I've never used anything Maccy in my life. The last Apple toy I played
with was at college - an Apple ][e I think. (Early 1980s.)

I tried to help by passing on the details for Linux and Windows in the
hope that Apple did something similar. I should have known better I
suppose!

Window is too small and not sizeable. Just as well both are the same config as
they are both:

Brilliant!

I presume that means you found it! ;-)

Yep fine. Pity though there is no Display in browser as for many others.
Must be a Mac thing. I have mine (on Windows at work) opening in the
browser as Acrobat takes for ever to load on my desktop. At home, on
this laptop, I have them opening in Okular - which is amazingly fast.

Actually, looking in the options in Firefox on Linux, I don't see the
option to Preview in Browser or similar. I have Always ask, Save file
..., Use default or Use Other Maybe us Unixy types don't get
the option to preview in browser then?

Thanks,

Welcome.

Cheers,
Norm.

And, just to be awkward, on Windows it's:

Tools-Options.

Then, the PDF's are described as Adobe Acrobat Documents rather than
PDF etc.

Consistency? What's that then?

Cheers,
Norm.

Consistency is still not having to rise in the middle of the nite for a

From Geoff Wicks

Quanta is being very shy at the moment. If you are curious go to
the penultimate item of the Just Words! news page.

www.gwicks.net/justwords.htm

Remember where you heard it first!

You shouldn't open PDF files in your own frame. Let them open in a
new, separate browser window.

Cheers...Ralf

A lot of people do not like having to separately download a PDF file,
(etc ...), when browsing a web site. Which may be why Geoff has done
it within own frame.

Better still, is to convert the PDF or Word file, etc, to HTML; and
then view it as a web page.

Ouch - the html files Word produces I would not recommend to anyone -
they are bloated and very obscure code.

… but I have not found *any* pdf files on the site.

Tony

Hi Tony,

Does anyone use Word for HTML's?

Hi Keith,

You are correct, the PDF is just a link on the QUANTA website which will
open in the same window. When viewed as a frame within Geoffs website it
appears as a framed PDF. Really the fix would be for Geoff to open the
QUANTA website either in a new page or as the top of the frames...

Yes, I agree. All my links to other sites are defined as ...
target=_blank_ to ensure that they do.

I could put (or get someone to put) some code on the page to force this but
I try to avoid it as it can cause more problems than it solves.

True.

[Ql-Users] WORD by any other name

Malcolm said -

By coincidence - because I'm to distribute some text intended for the widest
possible non-technical/academic audience - I've recently done one or two
tests i.e. -

saving MS-WORD docs in HTM format and using a web browser to view them

Results are *so* bland.

Don't you dare respond... this is OT. ;-)

Goodnite all,

John in Wales

PS Yes, .pdf's!, tif's and more, are up for evaluation.
