I feel like going to build a snow barrier both ends of the hill just to stop these idiotic people taking mindless risks trying to use it. One driver just skidded off the road and ended up inches from Ann's car in the parking bays outside our house. Even 4x4s are failing. As long as power stays on in these high winds, I should be able to get a lot of work done on my QL projects today at least :-) Stay indoors and program your QLs today, everyone! Re: [Ql-Users] Snowbound? and Ice Cream Sandwich
Snowing pretty constant here in North Nothumberland but it's lying level so far. a level fall has to be a deep one to stop us getting about up here as we're used to driving on roads that never see a gritter, snow tyres are a must though. As long as the wind does not get up we should be OK. Looks like I might have made a wrong decision with a purchase of an Asus TF201 which is now in the Czech republic for repair, time will tell but a brilliant bit of kit apart from the feature of random off and ons, it's Andriod, perhaps I should have given this a bit more thought as it's now available with Windows 8, I've no wish to go any further down the Windows route as 7 does all I want and runs QPC2, not sure if Windows 8 would run Qpc2 or not but probably no chance on Android, interestingly a cold boot of the tablet brings up three choices and mentions Linux (cold boot - forgive the terminology, I'm not sure if this is accurate just used on some Asus forums) . Anyway Dilwyn if your snowed in for a month or two you could run up a Ql - PC - Andriod emulator or vise versa From: peet vanpeebles peetvanpeeb...@yahoo.co.uk To: ql-us...@q-v-d.com ql-us...@q-v-d.com Sent: Friday, 18 January 2013, 11:09 Subject: Re: [Ql-Users] Snowbound? - Original Message - From: Dilwyn Jones dil...@evans1511.fsnet.co.uk To: QL Users List ql-us...@q-v-d.com Cc: Sent: Friday, 18 January 2013, 9:58 Subject: [Ql-Users] Snowbound? Anyway Dilwyn if your snowed in for a month or two you could run up a Ql - PC - Andriod emulator or vise versa I don't know about that but it should be an excuse to get enough time to finish or do a lot of work some of my ongoing QL projects. Re: [Ql-Users] Snowbound?
Interesting listening to Jeremy Vine program on radio 2 and the arguments about sissy teachers and closed schools and all that (I didn't agree with most of the views expressed I hasten to add). I've worked in a school(none teaching) for the last 11 years or so and only had 3 to 4 days off due to snow in all that time. I think the main trouble is that most teachers live many miles away from the school while most pupils can walk in, which would leave a building full of unsupervised kids. I think but I'm not sure in that a school has to have a minimum amount of teachers in per pupils in school. Pete I agree with you. There's also the point that as more and more small local schools close, schools nowadays tend to have larger catchment areas than a few decades ago. So people who say they used to brave the weather to struggle to school (like I used to in my youth in the 1960s) ain't quite taking into account the facts that schools tend to be bigger, less local and of course we tend to travel further to work these days too. What is the state of QL emulation on the Pi, anyway? I see lots of people playing with it, but no real co-operation or results ;) Dave On Fri, Jan 18, 2013 at 9:08 AM, Dilwyn Jones dil...@evans1511.fsnet.co.ukwrote: Subject: [Ql-Users] It's not a QL on a Raspberry Pi yet, but . Re: [Ql-Users] Snowbound?
So, we in the UK are all at home in snow chat-mode! (Our fellow Scandinavians will laugh, I know.) I was 19 miles from home last evening on my push bike when the snow started (West Cheshire). And then it went dark! I had all the 'gear' and I likes a challenge! Some denial of service today on my ADSL line. But now it's back, the speed is up from (sorry Dilwyn) 15.3 to 18.9mbps and I've just seen the (welcome) note re: W7 and QPC-2. So, all round, the snow, and the central heating, has made me happy. Re: [Ql-Users] Snowbound?
Not snowbound here. Don't you know that snow is something you drive to? (Mostly Tahoe) We've had over night lows just around freezing and it was all over the news. It's fairly rare when San Francisco gets that cold. The last time we had any accumulation of snow in the area was 1976. Tim Swenson ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm
