Re: [ql-users] Comment from the "Traditional" QUANTA Committee

2007-02-21 Thread Bill Cable
Hi John,

QUANTA has been very good to us here in North America by consitently funding the
conference rooms when we have held shows. Probably giving more than it has
received in North American subsriptions in the past 10 years. And I certainly do
not blame you personally for a mostly thankless job. I guess I mostly want to
see a few promising projects come forward with a plan and be funded before there
is no one left on this email group.

I have let my Quanta membership lapse so I am talking as an outsider at the
moment. I see no earthly reason for Quanta to keep 12,000 BPD (23,000 USD) in a
bank account. Funding a suitable free QL OS on the software side and a Goldfire
type device on the hardware side would be a good investment even if every last
cent was spent and nothing came of it because at least it would be an attempt to
do something. As things now stand we will all fade away and die and that money
will only be good for making memorial plaque in some computer museum for people
to look at and wonder. As has been said, "Money is like manure, of very little
use except it be spread". I will consider joining again when there is some
movement along these lines.

I hope you can make it. As Marcel said you can stay entirely in Canada and avoid

Hi Doug,

No admission fee. But you should reserve a room at the motel well in advance.
NESQLUG although no longer active had $100 left over from dues collected over
the years and will use that towards any expenses.

Interesting how this little saying Americans use to remember the relationship

  A pint's a pound, the world around
