[ql-users] Quanta membership

2004-11-19 Thread Delwin Vriend
My first post to this list myself - hello from San Francisco. I had
been interested in even just becoming a member of Quanta but when I
contacted whomever was provided as the membership contact I never got
a response. Don't know what sort of time commitment Quanta committee
membership would be, but I might be interested. Of course, from the
posts that have gone by in this list over the past couple months, it
almost sounds as if they are the evil ones...

I am myself just getting back to my QL (after 15 years) and am looking
at developing some hardware (ethernet connection) and likely some
software too; although, other than the ethernet drivers, I don't have
many ideas yet. I have seen some of the work done with some of the IP
stacks and seen the occassional discussion of some progress but don't
see much info on that end either.

Delwin Vriend

1.Develop internet software for all common ql platforms - Black box,
 (S)GC, Aurora,
 Qx0 etc.

2.Encourage Quanta members to use the software 1. above and to access the
 user list,
Web Site etc. Provide practical help with this for members who need it - I'm
 sure I'm not
 the only one!!!

3.Develop the Web Site so that all Quanta services - Magazine, Software
 Library, Help
line, Back Issues, Advertisements etc. etc. can be accessed by all members. -
 with up to
date links to other websites related to QL.

It is the 21st Century. Can we drag ourselves out of the (early) middle ages?

Now, it seems to me that the first step is to appoint a Web Master - any
 offers?

The Quanta committee is down to its minimum number of members. As Geoff has
 said on
many occasions, we have the ideas but not the manpower to execute them all. Is
 ANYBODY offering their help?

 John Gilpin.

Have you seen the efforts of Jon Dent? He has gone quite a long way down the
road, but I suspect has not enough time. I wonder, Jon, whether there is
 scope here for delegation/cooperation?

I have seen some work out there, and I guess that's why I finally
decided to pipe up - to make sure I'm not re-inventing any wheels and
perhaps cooperate on things. I haven't yet done an in-depth
investigation into the standards that have developed for QL drivers,
though I have seen some of the stuff out there related to the current
implementations of TCP_, IP_, UDP_, etc. suppport.

Do your talents stretch to networking/internet drivers etc,

Tony

Delwin?

Well, I have not done anything directly with networking hardware but
am always up for a challenge and have some resources/contacts here in
SF.

Cool! I know when I was just out of high-school with the QL in
Edmonton, AB (Canada), I was very much alone with my QL. So good to
know its not complete isolation here. :-)

Caught me by surprise! Another QL person in northern California?

Hi Delwin, I am down in Redwood City and Tim is over in the East Bay.
There may be a few other stragglers around too.

Welcome back to the QL scene.

 Cheers,
 jim
