Yes in the same place as last year. I emailed J-L D, but no reply. I
guess I can make it public now:

Saturday October 13th
10:00 to 16:00

Université Paris, 82 Rue de la Liberté, Saint-Denis

Room number B231

Métro - Ligne 13, terminus Saint-Denis - Université - immediately
opposite Metro exit.

Bus - lignes 253, 254, 255, 260, 268, 356, 361

http://www.univ-paris8.fr/up8/moyens_d_acces.shtml

This was a very successful venue last year, and is free parking all day
on the local roads. No general parking inside, but early traders can
drive to the door and park near (as last year).

[ql-users] London QL Users and QUANTA Group items available

2001-05-13 Thread Malcolm Cadman

Hi all,

I've had a good response to the request for hardware and software
donations to the group, over the latter few months.

At this months meeting we had a black box QL, with Minerva 1.92 +
GoldCard, and twin disc drives brought to us by Edward Kuness.

This now goes with a previous QL monitor given by Peter Goff, to make up
a working system that we can leave for use at the venue for the benefit
of all members attending.

Peter also gave a lot of software items, books and various QL hardware
that is listed below. If you have an interest in any of it then you can
either come and collect it at some time at a London meeting, or place a
reserve for it later when we have a London Workshop meeting. Or I may
bring it to the Byfleet Workshop in September 2001, depending on
interest shown.

Some items could be posted, if you meet the postage costs, although not
for any hardware items.

Of course ther is plenty of space in it...

The case I got is a "medium tower" one but it can be used horizontally
(the 5"1/4 bay may be rotated by 90°): this is what I did...

I now have on my main desktop three computers: QLCF BBS (a medium tower
with SGC+AURORA+SH+QUBIDE+ROMDISQ+MODEM) on the left, the Q60 in its case
with a 17" monitor on top of it in front of my seat, and my main PC
(medium tower too) on the right. On my secondary desktop, still sits
the Thor XVI, a black box QL and a secondary PC (mini tower)...

I was to much in a hurry to get my Q60 cased for waiting after a mail order
delivery. Besides, I like to see first what I buy...

Thanks, but the case I got is just fine... Moreover in October, I will
not be in Paris but in Indian Ocean !

QDOS/SMS forever !

Re: [ql-users] Q40/Q60 in ATX case

2001-05-13 Thread Peter Graf

Hi Derek,

>Is there any plans to incorporate the ATX power management system into the
>Q40 (SMSQ/E) rom

Tony Tebby is the only one who has the means to change SMSQ/E, and there is
more important other work, so there are no plans for power saving functions
yet.

On the hardware side, the Q40/Q60 has the "LED" output which could be used
to drive the PS_ON signal. The nonvolatile RAM could be used to save status
information. Maybe you are thinking about a sleeping system that wakes up
on a hardware interrupt from modem, so you might prefer the 68060 CPU which
supports lower power stop commands.

On the other hand, a Q40 or Q60 boots so fast that it might be enough to
switch on the power supply and just let SMSQ/E boot.

BTW the Q60 is a low-power machine anyway. The mainboard itself only
consumes a few watts. (The Q40 is also consumes only a small fraction of a
PC mainboard.)

>I am very pleased with my one, it is very stable.

Good.

All the best

Peter

I think thats a wonderful property! It rubs your text out again,
restoring the background. (But if its not what you want, I agree, it
could get thoroughly annoying ;)

OVER -1 is exculsive OR.
So printing on the background with that might render the text unreadable.
If it's printed on a relatively blank area though, you could erase the text
by printing it again and then print something else.

Re: [ql-users] Q40/Q60 in ATX case

2001-05-13 Thread Derek Stewart

Hi Peter,

Is there any plans to incorporate the ATX power management system into the
Q40 (SMSQ/E) rom

I am very pleased with my one, it is very stable. I did use it on the BBS,
but the SMSQ/E had problems with some of the Pbox mailing software, which I
am looking into. This maybe just a re-compile on Q40, as this maybe just the
old libraries on the non-68040 machines.

Hopefully since Phil released the sources, I might try and delvelop the
system more, things that inhibit this are going to be lack of programming
ability, pubs being open 24 hours...

Re: [ql-users] QL BBS

2001-05-13 Thread Derek Stewart

Hi,

I can take all the points that were on Nene Valley, Tony has already offered
to bring in SyncNet. If this becomes too difficult, then my system is not
used at all.

I am thinking of trying get Pbox to process newsgroup mail with a direct
connection to internet. This should not be too hard, that remains to be
seen.
