Don't forget that some of the Cumana interfaces have reversed connections for the drives ! Damn - I have a set of Cumana drives here (untested at the mo). Maybe the best answer is for you to take a set across Roy and you can sort him out at the meeting (presuming you and he both attend ) Just to complicate matters, some of the drives or interfaces had the locating notch on the connector chopped off so as to be compatible with either connection. I've seen a few with no locating notch in my time, especially ex-BBC micro drives modified to work with the early QL interfaces with wrong-way-round connectors. If so, it might be an idea to mark the connector with a dab of something in a different colour to highlight which way it goes into a QL interface. I'm sure I've managed to plug one of these in the wrong way round before today and it survived to tell the tale (I think that was with one of the earliest CST interfaces), though I don't know if I was just lucky or of the worst effect is that it simply doesn't work until plugged in the right way round. -- Dilwyn Jones ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.quanta.org.uk/mailing.htm
[ql-users] 5.25 inch drive wanted
Does anyone have an 80-track double sided 5.25 inch disk drive they don't want? A single drive would be adequate. Must be cased, with PSU and ready to plug in and go. I have a number of 5.25 inch disks I wish to try to copy (including one with source files for a very old program of mine I wish to try to update). Must be 80 track double sided, i.e. formats disks to 1440 sectors. I have a 5.25 inch drive here but it doesn't work after being in the loft unused for about 5 years! If anyone has suggestions how it may be brought back to life ... it powers up, responds to DIR FLP1_ but fails to read all my old 5.25 inch disks, consistently giving bad or changed medium errors (heads may be damaged or misaligned perhaps), yet Christopher Cave kindly helped me copy a few such disks some time ago which proved the disks were readable in his drives at least, but there are too many of these old disks here to ask him to help again, anyhow I guess 90% of them will probably have nothing useful on them. One last scan through them before they get disposed of. -- Dilwyn Jones ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.quanta.org.uk/mailing.htm

I'm sure I've gone one or two running around, but I'm not so sure you want to ship all the way from the US. I can be a last resort. Tim Swenson ___ Internet Access, Shared Dedicated Web Hosting. [ql-users] LRESPR'ed TK2
I'm trying out UQLX under Linux. I've got a copy of TK2_BIN that I used to run on my QL before I got a Gold Card. Every time I load it and CALL it, the emulator freezes. Anybody got a version that is known to work under UQLX? Tim Swenson ___ Internet Access, Shared Dedicated Web Hosting. The problem with the ROM version is getting it. If I can extract the JSU rom out of my Gold Card system will it also contain the TK2 code? [ql-users] 5.25 inch drive wanted
In-Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I have a couple of 5 1/4 drives sitting next to me at this moment. It would give me great pleasure to get rid of them other than to the Croydon tip. Both are Cumana drives and at least one has its own power supply. Over to you Dilwyn. Christopher Cave ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.quanta.org.uk/mailing.htm

All that happens if you plug it in round the wrong way is that the lights light up and the drives spin. Mind you if there is a disk in one of the drives when you do this it can be destroyed. If you look at the wiring one side of the IDC is all earth lines so I am not sure why this happens but I have done it and it does. -- Roy Wood Q Branch. 20 Locks Hill, Portslade, Sussex.BN41 2LB Tel: +44 (0) 1273 386030fax: +44 (0) 1273 430501 web : www.qbranch.demon.co.uk ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.quanta.org.uk/mailing.htm
