I would. Easyjet do cheap flights to Madrid.
Friday 4 March returning Sunday morning 6 March costs £45 from Luton.

They also do slightly more expensive flights from Gatwick.

Where in Madrid would you plan to have the show?

I have a love/hate affair with Madrid.

The first visit saw my phone stolen.
We also heard of a scam involving a Spaniard asking for directions and
phony plain-clothed 'policemen'. This worked for one of our group who
lost his wallet. A second group were also accosted. This group had two
retired police commanders (quite a high rank) and they didn't stand a
chance!

On my second visit I had my wallet stolen. Roy will attest to this - he
got a phone call asking him to report all my cards stolen.

On the third trip, we were potential victims to the #1 scam.
A Spaniard asks to see our map to find a nearby hotel. Another two men
approached flashing 'police' ID, and proceeded to frisk the first man.
Do -you- know what a valid ID looks like? They said they were plain
clothes police and they had been following this man. They said he would
manage to get our wallets and steal money. They showed us his wallet
which had all sorts of strange currency in. They then asked to see our
passports. It was only when they wanted to see out wallets that I
remembered the scenario from two years earlier. It took a lot of
persuading to get the other two away!

... but I would love to come. It is a great city, and I am very much
more aware now of the dangers.

By the way I might very well be singing in a town near Madrid later in
that month for a commemorative concert on the anniversary of the Atocha
bombing. What a great station it is. On our first visit we didn't
realise it was a station at all. The old hall has been converted into
an indoor garden, complete with frogs!

Definitely. I still have, from the Bracknell depot, a working Amstrad
1640 with hard disk . It was complete with manuals, keyboard and mouse,
and labelled 'not working'.
This was partly true. It had a failed soft fuse - chip based.
The -only- way to reset this was to power up with the power switch
'on'. The fuse then reset. Clearly the owners had not done this, and
the system has worked fine ever since!
Mind you the weather had been dry for a few days!

Skips are a good bet too. I found a working Linux server in a
Berkhamsted skip. This was from Boots, and still had all the
(confidential) files on it!

One of my colleagues here used to work in a furniture recycling centre and he's
told me that a lot of what goes into recycling depots in general is actually
useable - people send them there knowing that they are fit to use, but they do
not fit the need they have for the bits at the time and are deperate for the

Sounds like it might be a case for making contacts at the local recycling
centres. Do the QL scene a favour by rescuing old printers, do the environment
a favour by putting them back into use rather than into a landfill.
