[Qlandkartegt-users] Has POI sqlite format changed, updated POI files are no longer working?!

2024-05-05 Thread Karl Karsten via Qlandkartegt-users
Hi all,

after 2 years I would like to update my POI files.

Following QMS documentation
https://github.com/Maproom/qmapshack/wiki/DocGisItemsPOI
I am using the POI files from Mapsforge
http://download.mapsforge.org/pois/europe/
and GWDG
https://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/misc/openstreetmap/openandromaps/pois/

Current Mapsforge files (ex.
http://download.mapsforge.org/pois/europe/germany.poi

are not working. No POIs are shown in QMS.

For GWDG files only ORUX_old files are working. Files in ORUX_V3 are
not working.

Can somebody confirm this behaviour?

Thanks.

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] Regression in naming (date) of GARMIN files!

2022-08-21 Thread Karl Karsten via Qlandkartegt-users
Hi,

> Can you open a ticket and fix it?
I will check what I can do.

We have now 3 different timestamp format:

1. "Locale Short", example in German local format:
13.08.22 11:12

2. "Locale Long", example in German local format:
Freitag, 11. Februar 2022 15:37:56 CET

3. "Iso":
2022-08-04T17:24:17+02:00

Implementation scenario I:
The code change to consider only 2 timestamp format "Iso" and "Locale
Long" seems to be quite simple.
But when the user select in View/Setup Timezone "Short", "Iso" format
will be shown in the GUI (as before). But this is not really short?!
Workaround could be to change the name in in View/Setup Timezone (radio
button) from "short format" to "Iso format". Then it fit's to what is
shown in the GUI.

Implementation scenario II:
GUI will show "Locale Short" or "Locale Long", depending on the setting
of the radio button in View/Setup Timezone.

And for automatic filename generation "Iso" will be used.

But this implementation to consider 3 timestamp formats could be more
complex which may have many side effect, which I cannot overview.

What is your suggestion, scenario I or scenario II?

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] Regression in naming (date) of GARMIN files!

2022-08-15 Thread Karl Karsten via Qlandkartegt-users
Hello Oliver,

GARMIN Edge 1000 is with "fit" format.

I already checked the code, but I did not overview everything.

What I found out:

- This behaviour was introduce with commit 242746d
  [QMS-526] Fix deprecation warnings

- Root cause is in "IUnit::datetime2string", ~line 806
  const QString& format = QLocale().dateTimeFormat((shortDate |
useShortFormat) ? QLocale::ShortFormat : QLocale::LongFormat);
Qt::ISODate (previous) is replaced by QLocale::ShortFormat (new)
And when connecting my GARMIN QLocale::ShortFormat will be used is
any case
for the file name. Setting in View/Setup Timezone(long | short ...
will be
  ignored.
But Qt::ISODate is still valid and not depreciated.

- I cannot understand the "mechanic" behind shortDate and
useShortFormat?!

- I guess IUnit::datetime2string is used widely in many scenarios,
so many side effect could happen, when changing without understanding
the
  all the dependancies.

- I did in my QMS repository a dirty hack which ist working fine for
me,
but I can't see that this is an overall solution for the offical
repo:
...
 QDateTime tmp = time.toTimeZone(tz);
 const QString& format = QLocale().dateTimeFormat((shortDate |
useShortFormat) ? QLocale::ShortFormat : QLocale::LongFormat);

/* KKA: 2022-08-15
 * Ugly hack to get back ISODate Format when read in Fit GARMIN files
 * instead having the QLocale::ShortFormat
 */
 if (!useShortFormat && shortDate)
 {
 return tmp.toString(Qt::ISODate);
 }

 return tmp.toString(format);
...

I am fine with that.

[Qlandkartegt-users] Regression in naming (date) of GARMIN files!

2022-08-14 Thread Karl Karsten via Qlandkartegt-users
Hello,

I just realized that the name of tracks have changed when I connect
my Garmin to QMS.

Previous naming:

EDGE 1000 (GARMIN)
|
-> 2022-08-04T17:24:17+02:00

Now:

EDGE 1000 (GARMIN)
|
-> 13.08.22 11:12

I would like to have it in the manner we have it for years, because I
store my tracks in the database and for me the "format -mm-dd" is
the best for sorting etc.

For me this is a regression!

Where can I change it back to the previous format?

[Qlandkartegt-users] New development builds for QMapShack.AppImage 1.16.1.development.3

2022-08-13 Thread Karl Karsten via Qlandkartegt-users
There are some new features and bug fixes in the QMS development
branch.
And important new topic is that beginning from commit
242746d "[QMS-526] Fix deprecation warnings"
QMapShack is based now on Qt version > 5.15.2.

So it's worth to issue some fresh QMapShack.AppImages based on
the latest QMS commits.

Changelog for this set of QMapShack.AppImages:
[19] Provide new builds based on Qt Version >= 5.15.2
- PROJ update to version 9.0.1
- GDAL update to version 3.5.1
- New QMapShack.AppImage for openSUSE 15.4
- Fedora 36 can be used by Ubuntu-22.04 or Fedora-36
  or openSUSE-15.4
- Manjaro RR can be used by Ubuntu-22.04 or Fedora-35
- "End of live" last builds for:

[Qlandkartegt-users] QMapShack.AppImage support for Ubuntu 22.04 and Fedora 36

2022-05-17 Thread Karl Karsten
Ubuntu 22.04 and Fedora 36 are released in the last weeks.

For Ubuntu 22.04 I have set up dedicated Dockerfile "Dockerfile_Ubuntu-
22.04" and built a QMapShack-x86_64_Ubuntu-22.04.AppImage.

According to my test for Fedora 36 AppImages of Ubuntu-22.04, Fedora-
33, openSUSE-15.2, Manjaro-21.2 can be used, so no need to setup a
dedicated Dockerfile and AppImage for Fedora 36.

Changelog:
[17] Build new Dockerfile for Ubuntu 22.04
[18] Check existing QMapShack.AppImages for Fedora 36

Has anyone already installed QMS under Ubuntu 22.04?

It must/should do! Otherwise it will not be a serious backup tool. :-)
But Borg stores only the "piece" (chunk) of information which has
changed and not the complete file. Please read the Borg documentation,
the approach is well documented.

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] Good backup strategy?

2021-10-31 Thread Karl Karsten
Hi Michael,

I am using "Borg" to backup all my data, see:
https://borgbackup.readthedocs.io/en/stable/index.html
https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/BorgBackup/

BorgBackup (short: Borg) is a deduplicating backup program. Optionally,
it supports compression and authenticated encryption.

I have rent a small server in data center where my Nextcloud and a
MariaDB is installed. In the MariaDB there is the SQL DB for QMapShack.
So that I have access to all my stored tracks when I am far from home
by using QMS on a small Notepad with Fedora.

I have written a bash script which I start on my Home Ubuntu PC before
shutting down it. The approach of the bash script is:

1. Extract the QMapShack DB on the remote server by starting a small
bash script on the server via ssh by using mysqldump

mysqldump qms_db_in_mariadb | gzip > server_backup_dir/qms_db.sql.gz

2. Copy some important server data (qms_db.sql.gz, etc.) to my local
Ubuntu PC by using rsync.

3. Using borg to backup the local data from my user (inculding the
important server data) to an external disk.

But this approach is very specific to my needs.

Last year there was an update on the remote server (fresh new OS
installation). By using the qms_db.sql.gz I was able to restore all my
Tracks in the new MariaDB.

Yes, you can try, but on my Garmin it never correct the current height.
So, I use the trick with the waypoint.

I am not an expert in that. But what I remember is, that accuracy of
altitude is not an easy topic for GPS devices compared to LON/LAT
precision and that rapid barometric pressures changes (thunderstorm)
will have impact also.

Attached an example of one of my bike tours showing GPS and DEM curves
of a tour with some weather change (sun, rain, wind ...).

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] DEM delta?

2021-10-16 Thread Karl Karsten
Hi Michael,

I am using Garmin Edge 1000 and I do a small trick to start with the
right altitude. You can check if your Garmin will to the same.

Create a waypoint im QMS nearby where you would like to start your
tour. Assign the correct altitude to the waypoint in QMS.
Transfer the waypoint to your Garmin device.

When starting your live tour, Garmin device will encounter that the
waypoint is nearby and correct the internal Garmin height to the
waypoint height. Then you will have at least a good starting height.

But during a daytour, height will be become more and more inaccurate.

[Qlandkartegt-users] New development builds for QMapShack.AppImage available

2021-10-16 Thread Karl Karsten
I've caught a cold, so I can't torture my old trekking bike this
weekend. So a good opportunity to update the QMapShack.AppImage to the
latest development status. :-)

I have seen that there are some problems in PROJ 8.0.0 for QMS, and
that some fixes has been made for PROJ. So I took the current
development status of 8.1.1-dev of PROJ for these builds.

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] Release V 1.16.0

2021-05-28 Thread Karl Karsten
Just my 5 Cents.

I have prepared the Wiki instructions for Ubuntu 18.04/20.04 and Fedora
33 some weeks ago. I always do it based on fresh and clean base
installation of the OS. I have tested it several times but always in a
new fresh OS environment.

I am doing it by using virtual machines. For the management of the VMs
I am using Cockpit https://cockpit-project.org/. With cockpit its easy
and convenient to setup VMs and switch from one VM to the a next one.
And you can easily make snapshots to save your current installation
process.

Maybe you think about to start installation of QMS from scratch with
your favorite OS in a VM in a fresh base OS. Then you can control
better your installation process and you can make a snapshot when you
have perform a good installation step. If you fail you can switch
easily back to last good one. At the end you can try your installation
steps to your real desktop installation.

Installation of QMS in an existing environment and changing many things
in parallel (ex. from /usr/local to /usr and/or from using official
packages to self-compiled packages could by tricky - but just my
experiences, but I am a hobby developer and admin only.

Or you could give AppImages a chance which we have now as an offer for
Linux users in the QMS download page. It's for Linux users which will
not doing self-compiling. May be it could help ...

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] Cannot compile anymore

2021-04-12 Thread Karl Karsten
Hello Wout,

many thanks for testing.

It seems the AppImage could be an alternative for some Linux user,
which are not willing to to do all this installation work :-)

About the "rout" link:
From AppImage point of the view the path to the routino configuration
files expressed in CMake by ROUTINO_XML_PATH is a hard coded one.

So I bypassed it by setting a temporarily link, so that QMS will find
the files in the AppImage. Without this trick routino will not work,
because of the the missing files.
From my view this is a bit "dirty" but right now, I have no better
solution w/o touching the QMS code.

But is only a temp symbolic link which will be removed when you
finished QMS.

My testing results:
QmapShack AppImage (QmapShack-x86_64.AppImage)
Build from 2021-04-05 based on Ubuntu 18.04 Dockerfile
The AppImage starts normal (as fast as self compiled version)

QmapShack Version 1.15.2
Qt: 5.9.5 (nb self compiled in Ubuntu 20.04: Version 5.12.8 )
GDAL: GDAL 3.2.2, released 2021/03/05
Proj4: Rel. 8.0.0., March 1st, 2021
Routino: 3.3.3 (API V8)

Little bit strange: As I started the AppImage an “root map link” is
created in the same directory.

I am using a PuddleTag AppImage (integrated in my Ubuntu Desktop) and
when I started this AppImage no “root map link” is created in the same
directory.

Tested with own QMapShack database:
Local Maps: ok
Online Maps: ok
DEM Local Maps ok
DEM Online Maps ok
Routing:
BRouter (online) ok
Brouter (offline) ok NB Java Executable is necessary (Ubuntu default-
jre)
MapQuest (online) ok
Routino (offline) ok

Everything works normal and I have no bugs encountered so far.
Good work!

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] Struggling to build Qt5WebEngineWidgets.cmake

2021-04-11 Thread Karl Karsten
Yes, I know, but this is just a test or a kind of "feasibility study".

The question for help to install Qt5WebEngineWidgets is a general one,
independent from the Linux distribution version.

I will check if a AppImage build on Debian stretch will work on which
newer Linux distribution - independently from a productive usage.

And the setup of an AppImage based an older stable version is the
recommended best practices from the AppImage team.

https://docs.appimage.org/reference/best-practices.html#general-recommendations
.

I already build on Ubuntu 18.04 but this will not work on the latest
openSUSE 15.2 because openSUSE glibc is still 2.6 and Ubuntu 18.04 is
on 2.7.

And building on new distribution version like Fedora 33 or openSUSE
15.2 will end in, that you can use this AppImage only in the
distribution you have built it from - which is in contradiction to the
concept of AppImage: Build in one - use in many.

So I am realistic - I see that I will never find a set up that will
reach all current Linux distributions.

Don't expect to build current software on ancient distributions.

Using EOL distributions in general is not wise.

Your best bet is to port your AppImage project to a modern base.

2021-04-11 Thread Karl Karsten
Hi Wout,

I work out this installation scripts in the last couple of weeks.

It's based on a fresh Ubuntu 18.04 (20.04) iso installation from
scratch. All installation will go to /usr.

So please check your current installation path, may be it could be
/usr/local. Mixing up could led into trouble.

One question to you:

I just playing a bit to install QMS into a Docker image and compress
everything in one single executable file by using AppImage.

It's still work in progress - nothing finish right now.

So please could you do me a favor, because it seems you are an Ubuntu
user too.

Please can you check the
https://github.com/kkarsten62/QMapShack.AppImage

and download the AppImage file from
https://github.com/kkarsten62/QMapShack.AppImage/wiki

And then start the file. QMS should start without any installation or
beside to on existing installation.

I am very interest to see if this QMS AppImage will execute in your
environment.

But please be careful - its still under development. Please back up
your data first. Many thanks.

If could test some QMS function/feature with the AppImage as well would
be great too.

Thanks for a feedback.

Thanks for your quick reply. I must have missed that QMapShack versions
beyond version 1.15.2 will use PROJ version 8.

[Qlandkartegt-users] Struggling to build Qt5WebEngineWidgets.cmake

2021-04-11 Thread Karl Karsten
Hello,

I am just testing to install QMS into the old/stable Debian Stretch
Linux distribution, because Debian stretch is using an quit old but
stable GLIBC 2.2.x version, which I need for an AppImage project, I am
currently working on.

Unfortunately Debian Stretch has Qt 5.7 in its official repositories
which is behind QMS 5.8x dependencies.

So I have to compile and install Qt from scratch.

Base compilation is quite ok. But now I have to find the setup to build
the Qt5WebEngineWidgets.cmake.

I can't find the right needed libs and parameter setting for Qt
./configure ...

Any help is more then welcome, because each try will last about 2
hours. ( But gives my times for many coffee breaks :-) ).

Many thanks for any tip ...

Hello Helmut,

yes cat /dev/ttyACM0 | nc -lk 2 is working as well.

But gpsserver.py is very clever :-)

You can start the script and then its waiting to connect the GPS-Mouse.

And when unplug and plugin again, its reconnect immediatly.

Exactly what I need.

Hi Karl,

great that it works for you!

Just for the records: as the gpsserver.py does not seem to modify
anything in the NMEA stream, a simple
  cat /dev/ttyACM0 | nc -lk 2
might do the same job without any python/pyserial/script installation.

Hi Karl,

your message made me curious, so I looked in the python script.

First of all, I think you do not need gpsbabel at all.
Because your GPS-Mous already provides NMEA, i.e. what QMS needs
A simple cat /dev/ttyACM0 might do the job as well.

Regarding the python script: It looks like it is doing two jobs
a) set all GPS fixes to valid
  (probably contradictory to your goals?)
b) ensure that timestamps contain fractions of seconds
  (apparently needed by QMS)

With a bit of luck, the timestamps provided by the GPS mouse already
contain sub-second fractions.
Then you could cat directly to nc
Otherwise, you might comment out that line of the python script
  msg.data[idx["gps_qual"]] = '1'

Have fun,

More or less it's working out of the box. It is sending directly in
NMEA format.

Here the procedure to connect it to Ubuntu 20.04.

Connect it to USB:
In a terminal to get access as user (non-root) to the tty device:
sudo usermod -a -G dialout $USER

reboot

To set up the TCP/IP server enter in a terminal:
/usr/bin/gpsbabel -T -i nmea,get_posn -f /dev/ttyACM0 -o
nmea,gpgga=1,gprmc=0,gpvtg=0,gpgsa=0 -F - | /path_to/nmeahandler.py |

The nmeahandler.py script is the same I mentioned in a previous post.

In QMS/Realtime you have to setup:
Server: localhost
Port: 2
Then you should get the real time positions in QMS.

First test was positive. I took the chance to record a business trip by
car and this morning a cycling tour. I took some pictures and and put
them in a PDF.

At this point I would like to say a big thank you to Oliver.
Oliver set up these great possibilities around realtime few years ago.
And as always: With a lot of foresight, openness, flexibility and
stability - thanks Oliver.

What next:

I see that the GPS-Mouse is sending Lon and Lat 0 (zero) when there are
no signals coming from the satellites. This has to be filtered out
before sending to the nc server.

I will check whether gpsbabel will help or I have to modify the python
script. I am not a python expert, a helping hand will be great or I
will learn by doing. :-)

2020-10-04 Thread Karl Karsten
Hi Pitney,

I am not sure if you received my E-Mail from yesterday because I got a
"Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender" message from a email server. I
guess we cannot attached zip files to the qlandkartegt mailing list.

You can download the zip file from here:
https://cloud.karl-karsten.de/index.php/s/fKdy54NSqoxeJk3

Karl ...

Hi Pitney,

I followed the instruction from the wiki:
https://github.com/Maproom/qmapshack/wiki/DocRealtime
and combined some script sniplets together.
(Thanks to Wolfgang and Henrik Schulz).

We need gpsbabel to read from USB the specific Garmin format to output
to NMEA format. This will piped to a python script which will transform
something. I am not a python expert, so I used it more or less OOTB.
Then this output is piped to netcut (nc) to set up the TCP/IP server.

I installed it in a fresh Ubuntu 20.04 environment.

You have to install some apt packages:
sudo apt install gpsbabel python3-pip

And a needed python3 module:
python3 -m pip install pynmea2

To get access to the USB devices as a user (non-root) a specific rule
must be set, according to the information here:
https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Garmin_eTrex_Legend_HCx/

sudoedit /etc/udev/rules.d/51-garmin.rules

and include the following code:

SUBSYSTEM=="usb", GOTO="garmin_rules_usb"
SUBSYSTEM=="tty", GOTO="garmin_rules_tty"
GOTO="garmin_rules_end"

LABEL="garmin_rules_usb"
ACTION!="add", GOTO="garmin_rules_end"
ATTRS{idVendor}=="091e", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0003", MODE="0660",
GROUP="plugdev"
GOTO="garmin_rules_end"

LABEL="garmin_rules_tty"
ACTION!="add", GOTO="garmin_rules_end"
KERNEL=="ttyUSB[0-9]", MODE="0660", GROUP="plugdev"
GOTO="garmin_rules_end"

LABEL="garmin_rules_end"

Connect the Etrex via USB cable and switch it on:

Now you can test step by step in a terminal:

As root:
sudo /usr/bin/gpsbabel -T -i garmin,get_posn -f usb: -o
nmea,gpgga=1,gprmc=0,gpvtg=0,gpgsa=0 -F -

You should see lines coming like this:

$GPGGA,200309.000,.xxx,N,x.xxx,E,0,00,0.0,106.804,M,0.0,M,,*68
...

As user:
/usr/bin/gpsbabel -T -i garmin,get_posn -f usb: -o
nmea,gpgga=1,gprmc=0,gpvtg=0,gpgsa=0 -F -

As user and piped to the python script:
/usr/bin/gpsbabel -T -i garmin,get_posn -f usb: -o
nmea,gpgga=1,gprmc=0,gpvtg=0,gpgsa=0 -F - | /path_to/nmeahandler.py -

And finally piped to the TCP/IP server:
/usr/bin/gpsbabel -T -i garmin,get_posn -f usb: -o
nmea,gpgga=1,gprmc=0,gpvtg=0,gpgsa=0 -F - | /path_to/nmeahandler.py |
nc -lk 2

Then in QMS Realtime, GPS TCP/IP:
Server: localhost
Port 2

Now you should get a real time track in QMS.

For comfort I created a desktop starter and put the starter in the
Gnome Iconbar.

Before starting QMS a one-click will start the GPS TCP/IP server first.

I setup a link for the starter.

ln -s /path_to_gpsserver_folder/gpsserver.desktop
~/.local/share/applications/gpsserver.desktop

In gpserver.sh I kill some previous started gpsbabel and nc processes
first. Maybe a bit rough and experts will be done smarter. But for me
it's ok.

I attached a zip file with the files I have setup. Feel free to use it
as you want.

HTH.

Karl ...

Some changes according to the installation process described here:

Overall the installation process is the same as described under
Ubuntu 18.
So maybe we can change the titel in the wiki from "Ubuntu 18 HowTo"
to "Ubuntu 18 and 20.04 HowTo"

Some minor changes:

1. "Remarks: Starting with version 1.13.0 QMapShack requires PROJ.4"
This remark seems to be valid for Ubuntu 18 only. I skip it in the
installation process.
So maybe we can changed from "Remarks" to "Remarks for Ubuntu 18

2. I installed QMS in a fresh new installed Ubuntu environment

Starting qmapshack ends in:
"qmapshack: error while loading shared libraries: libroutino.so.0:

libroutino.so.0 is installed in /usr/local/lib, but LD_LIBRARY-PATH
is not showing to this directory by default in Ubuntu 20.04.
So I extend the LD_LIBRARY-PATH in .bashrc.

So maybe we can add the following paragraph in the wiki:

The LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable has to be extended by the following
commands:

nano ~./bashrc (or edit

Yes, we have to install PROJ.4. But in the universe of Ubuntu 20.04 the
right version is already there. So we need no special treatment about
it for Ubuntu 20.04. We need the given remarks only for installation on
ubuntu 18.

Yes you are right, I oversee it. I am always struggling with that.
Bas gave a next suggestion to install the libs
in /usr/local/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu. I checked it and change line 51 in
routino/Makefile.conf from libdir=$(prefix)/lib to
libdir=$(prefix)/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu.
This works also.

I suggest to leave the wiki page as it is and wait for experiences from
other, because it occours only for me on a fresh installation, so it's
hard for me to reproduce w/o huge effort.

Thanks.

Hello,

I get the following error when compiling Release V1.15.0. Previous
commits from the last months compiled w/o errors.

Has anybody an idea how to fix? I don't want to interact to much in
unknown code regions. :-)

Thanks.

Hi,
time to get a couple of changes into the binaries.
Henri was curious to implement the traveling sales man problem. So he
picked the rather old ticket and did it:
https://github.com/Maproom/qmapshack/wiki/DocGisItemsRte#optimize-route
And I found time to improve the range selection. An issue that
disturbed me for quite some time. Especially when I have to enhance
long tracks with alternating activities like ski slopes. The range tool
became quite complex, now. So it needs a bit of learning. However if
you get used to it it simplifies editing a track quite a lot as you can
seamlessly move a long the track to apply all kinds of functions. Have
a look at Wolfgang's wonderful documentation of the feature:

https://github.com/Maproom/qmapshack/wiki/DocGisItemsTrkRange#track-ranges
For package maintainers: I took the freedom to increase the minimum
GDAL version to 2.3. We already have 3.2 and those deprecation warnings
drove me nuts.
And of course the release contains the usual mix of bug fixes and
improvements. See the attached change log and the archived tickets on
Github for details.
Have fun with the release!

2020-05-20 Thread Karl Karsten
Hello Axel,

maybe you can check GPSBabel.

https://www.gpsbabel.org/capabilities.html

GPSBabel is mainly a conversion tool to convert from/to different GPS
formats or devices.

I don't know whether you can "clean" your data with GPSBabel and if you
can do a mass conversion in one shot. Then maybe you have to build a
batch script for a huge amount of files. You have to check it more in
detail.
In the doc there is mentioned some filter capabilities, maybe some of
them could help to "clean".

Dear All,

from time to time I have to open a high amount of external gpx-files in
QMS stored i

A lot of them are containing bad data an QMS ask me if I like to remove
this.
Due to the high amount of gpx files I can't check every single file.

Mainly the 'bad data' are related to DEM or speed, but other errors
could be possible as well.

A good solution would be to "clean" the bad data before open it in QMS.
I'm searching for a tool which should work in a command line script for
Linux to clean and save the
bad gpx file recursive.

Do you know such a tool?

A 'dirty' solution could be to deactivate the error check by opening a
gpx track, but I don't know how,

Thank you!

Kind regards

Axel

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] Tipps and Tricks needed for printing maps in higher quality

2020-04-26 Thread Karl Karsten
Hello Michael,

I will answer in English, so all can follow the thread.

I have no problem to integrate it in the main repository, so that all
can use it.
But so far I have no idea how to combine it with the existing printing
dialog (CTRl-D).
If we can integrate it aside to the existing dialog and we can accept
that we have two printing dialogs then I see it will not a big deal to
pull it into the main repo.
But when we have to "marriage" it with the existing on, then I have no
idea how to do it. Maybe a developer with more skills are needed.
In the next days I will open an issue in Git. Then we can discuss with
the development experts (Oliver ) and we will see how to approach.

I have uploaded the results of the "versions of the day" (V2) here:
https://cloud.karl-karsten.de/index.php/s/DWqXHnjWqTcpNtT

There is also an example gpx file in it. Feel free to find a better
solution. If you will see your track as PDF, please send it to me. The
more tracks to test the better.

Still I am quite disappointed by the printing quality when printing the
PDF to paper or directly from QMS to my Inkjet printer.
So far I have no better results then in the V2 of Rurtour.pdf.

I will check in the next days by printing to Laserprinter to check the
influence of the hardware printer.

But I guess it depends on the resolution of the maps, showing the map
to roughly.

More information on printing quality are welcome.

Karl ...

PS: Ohh, before I forget. There is a really powerful option to display
the track over the slope in a colorize range. Then when on tour you see
right away when you have to take the next Snickers chocolate bar :-)

Hallo Karl,

2020-04-24 Thread Karl Karsten
Hi Mitxel,

nice to meet again :-)

A already mentioned I am not an expert in all this maps stuff. I am
using what is already there. Mainly the maps from the package
online.zip package and I download some Leisure map for specific
regions.
So far I did not optimize or change any maps by setting by
Projection/Datum or stuff like that. I use what is there with standard
settings.

I have upload my test track and two PDFs, one from Mapline, and one
from QMS. If you wish you can check with your expertise if you can find
a better result than my results in the QMS PDF.
You can print with the standard print dialog (CTRL--P). Because I am
using the same core method canvas->print() for printing. 1-2 pages in
A5 in nearly the same scale ~1:25.000 - 1:35.000 would be fine.
If you have different maps this is also ok.

https://cloud.karl-karsten.de/index.php/s/DWqXHnjWqTcpNtT

On QGIS I have no expertise. I have to checked it first ...

Many thanks again.

Hi All

I also need paper maps on some occasions. Especially if we go for a
multi-day MTB route.

Let's focus on QMS first:
What's your base map?
I guess a raster map .. ;-) There's a golden rule if you use a raster
map for printing: Set the Projection/Datum of the mapview from you
print to be the same as the raster map. eg.If your source raster map is
a UTM28/ETRS89 projected and the mapview is as default lat/lon WGS84, a
deformation has to be made, and that will mess up your impression a
bit, especially texts, fine lines...
It doesn't matter if you use a source map with a higher pixel
resolution if you don't follow this rule.
Same with resolution, if possible, try to print at the same resolution
the raster map has. ( you can know about it with gdalinfo). This
second one is not so important like the first one
Another hint: Carlos the guy who contributed the hiking time models,
says that he gets beetter results exporting to png instead of jpg.

And when all this is not enoughfor me, ... I jump to QGIS .
( I am not telling to instal QGIS only for this task, but I use QGIS
every day, so it is an easy way for me, and may be someone else is in a
similar situation)
First I prepare with QMS all the stuff (tracks, wp, ...), then I save
it as gpx
In Qgis I already have a couple of "layer styles" to port gpx track
colors to linestyles, and wp symbol labels to qgis symbols, so as soon
as I load the gpx I can see it "styled".
The funny thing is that you can even hold both QMS and QGIS open, edit
the gpx on QMS and see on QGIS. Since QMS does the work on his own db
you can modify anything and when you do "save" you will see the changes
on Qgis.
For the basemap you can use the same raster map you use in QMS. For
printing I have an A3 template with a grid, scalebar, Here you dont
need to make a fence on the canvas to select the area to print for
every sheet. Here it is the inverse way, you drag the map on the A3
template to frame the area you are interested in, this way it is very
quick and easy to evaluate how you are going to distribute the sheets
before printing. Usually I save the sheets as pdf and a friend takes
care of printing. Finally, in QMS we print the "project summary" with
the wps ordered along the route to get the roadbook.

This QMS-QGIS marriage is not for most normal users, but if you know
something about qgis, or if you think you are going to do it very often
it is worth the jump.

HTH

Hello Henri,
I have integrated the start of the Track Print Dialog by a small icon
in the information panel in the TrackDetail Dialog. This was the easiest
and quickest solution so far for me. For my private use this is ok.
But I guess for integration in the main repo a more general approach
should be evaluated. Because I am using more or less the same internal
methods than the existing print option (CTRL-P) in QMS.Only the
computation of the pages is different.
So maybe an approach is needed to bring the existing Print Dialog
(Saving and printing of a screen rect) and my Track Print Dialog
together in one Dialog. But my development skills are bit limited and I
think this will be a bit to much for me.If a volunteer can be found for
integration I can provide my code.

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] Tipps and Tricks needed for printing maps in higher quality

2020-04-24 Thread Karl Karsten
Hello Rainer,

many thanks for this useful link. Yes a very nice tool - very powerful!

I did a quick check to compare with my implementation in QMS.

The Distribution of the pages over the track seems to be same. I see no
big differences. But depending on margin and overlap a different number
of pages will be computed.

Mapline:
+ You can set well known scales like 1:25.000, 1:50.000. Very nice!
+ Page Markers to previous and next pages
+ Printing quality seems to be a bit better then my printing output
+ Margins and overlap can be controlled
+ Distance information (10km, 20km, ...)
+ Real time update when changing parameters (You see what you get)
+ More page information from km - to km for each page

My implementation in QMS:
+ Integrated in QMS
+ No upload to a foreign server
- Unusable scales like 1:23.950, 1:35.900, because I am using
predefined QMS zoom factors, managed by mouse wheel
+ More scenery can be added (Waypoints, other tracks, track
information) all the information of the QMS canvas will be printed
+ Page Markers to previous and next pages, but only small markers
instead of lines
+ Margins and overlap can be controlled
+ Real time update when changing scale and parameters (You see what you
get)
+ Printing directly to a printer, not only to PDF
- No Distance information (10km, 20km, ...) - but no big deal to
implement this as well
- No more page information from km - to km for each page, - but no big
deal to implement this as well

I have upload my test track and two PDFs, one from Mapline, and one
from QMS. Feel free to evaluate and let me known what you think.

For this part of the job there is a nice tool:
https://sgelb.github.io/demo/mapline
It is in "demo" status since longtime but it works perfectly. It
automatically splits the map along a GPX track into pages for printing.
However, map detail is rather low.

[Qlandkartegt-users] Tipps and Tricks needed for printing maps in higher quality

2020-04-24 Thread Karl Karsten
Hello all,
I need help around maps.
I am just working on an enhancement for printing my bicycle tracks. My
basic Idea is that the paper sheets are following the track, so that
the track is best fitted in the pages and the consumption of paper is
on an acceptable level.
I know, many of you are on "digital only mode" and not using paper any
more. :-)Maybe I am a bit old-fashioned. I like it to have a bit paper
on my handlebar-bag when traveling with my touring bike in unknown
regions.
When printing the map and track on my Inkjet printer the quality on the
paper is a bit poor.
I am not an expert around maps, but I am assume we have some experts
here.
What kind of possibilities do we have to increase the printing quality
in QMS?Maps in higher DPIs, high-quality, retina?Any free maps with
high quality available?Using a specific regular map?Other tipps and
tricks?
All information are welcome.
Thanks.

Hello Rolf,

I have no more information and experiences on that but after a quick
"google" with QWANT:

I checked for the first entry:

Maybe you can try the following suggestion:

[Qlandkartegt-users] My notes on setting up QMS development environment on Ubuntu 18.04

2018-08-04 Thread Karl Karsten
Hi,

I have just updated my QMS development box from Ubuntu 16.04 to Ubuntu 18.04
with a complete installation.
Here are my notes:

0. Normal Ubuntu 18.04 installation, nothing special

1. Create a directory for all installation files (ex. ~/GPS)
> cd
> mkdir GPS
> cd GPS

2. Install all needed packages for QMapShack
> sudo apt-get install cmake build-essential subversion mercurial qt5-default
> qttools5-dev libqt5webkit5-dev qtscript5-dev qttools5-dev-tools libgdal-dev
> libproj-dev libghc-bzlib-dev libgraphics-magick-perl libquazip5-dev
> libqt5sql5-mysql gdal-bin qtwebengine5-dev

3. Build and install Routino
Download Routino source files
> svn co http://routino.org/svn/trunk routino

> cd routino
Note: I had to change line 48 of file Makefile.conf from prefix=/usr/local to
prefix=/usr to avoid a QMS starting error: " ... routino lib not found ...".
May be not always necessary.
> make
> sudo make install
> cd ..

3a. Only for following Routino updates in future
> cd routino
> svn update
> make
> sudo make install

4. Build and install QMapshack
Download QMapShack source files
> hg clone https://bitbucket.org/maproom/qmapshack QMapShack

> mkdir build_QMapShack
> cd build_QMapShack
> cmake ../QMapShack
> make
> sudo make install

4a. Only for following updates in future
> cd ~/GPS/QMapShack
> hg pull
> hg update
> cd ../build_QmapShack
> make
> sudo make install

And finally start QMapShack ...
> qmapshack

5. TortoiseHg for code management with Bitbucket and diffuse for code comparing
inside TortoiseHg
sudo apt-get install tortoisehg diffuse

6. QtCreator for QMS coding
> sudo apt-get install qtcreator

I have set -j4 in build tool parameter line, to speed up compilation time for
my 4 core CPU
And -d in Execution for command line arguments.

Now it's all working fine, similar to previous Ubuntu 16.04.

Regards

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] Compile error QT5

2018-07-30 Thread Karl Karsten
Hi Bas,
I have the same issue on my Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.
I tried:
sudo apt-get install qtwebengine5-dev
==> Package not found
It seems that "qtwebengine5-dev" package is available beginning with
Ubuntu 17.10.
https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=qtwebengine5-dev
I am not really willing to update my complete development machine to
18.04 right now - only for QMS qtwebengine5-dev.
Any other idea to install qtwebengine5-dev under Ubuntu 16.04?
Thanks for help.

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] Fwd: Fwd: Re: Shift the Startpoint from a track to another point; Programming an own tool

2018-03-13 Thread Karl Karsten
My 5 cent of Olivers suggestion:

A possible use and implementation case could be:

Use case I:
- Read the track into QMS
- Create 1 to n waypoints near the track for possible new track start
points
- The waypoints will be recognized internally as "assigned track
waypoints" within a threshold of 50m
- Maybe rename the waypoints by proper names

Implementation:
- Development of a new track filter "Reassign start point", maybe in
the section "Miscellaneous"
- GUI could be very simple: One Combobox with the list of the names of
the assigned track waypoints and the "Compute" pushbutton
- The track vector of the given points has internally be reordered from
"n" to "end point" from "end point" "to start point" from "start point"
to "n"

Use Case II:
- Select an assigned track waypoint from Combobox list and push the
button of "Compute"
- Then track points will be reordered beginning with the selected track
waypoint

Still to be consider:
- Implementation will be consider "all" kind of tracks, a non circle
track will be then linked from end to start point, may be a long
straight line from end to start point will be the shown
- Tracks with internal multiple segments will be transformed to one
internal segment
- How to handle history (I am not experienced in that)?
- Timestamps of the track points has maybe reassign by a new starting
date and time (has to reflect a bit more in detail)

Hope it helps.

[Qlandkartegt-users] Deleting of waypoints in my Garmin Edge 1000 in one shot?

2017-09-10 Thread Karl Karsten
Hello,

it is quite easy to create waypoints in QMS and transfer them to my
Garmin Edge 1000 device - I like it to see some more information beside
to the track ...

Now I can see the waypoints from the device in QMS when connected to
QMS - really great!

But to delete the waypoint in the Garmin device it's a bit horrible.
You have to do 7 clicks to delete manually one waypoint. Up to now I do
not have any better and quicker solution found to delete it in a
quicker and smoother way then manually waypoint by waypoint.
It seems there is no "Delete All" or "Delete Selected" func in the GUI
of the device.

Any tips and ideas are welcome.

Thanks.

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] msyql - standalone vs cluster

2017-09-09 Thread Karl Karsten
Hello Stan,
my only 5 Cents ...
I am using QMS DB funcs (MariaDB) beside to my Nextcloud installation
hosted by OwnCube on a server in the Netherlands. This works fine an
stable for me. I guess this is a what you called "network"
installation. I do not have experiences with a "cluster" installation.
Small hints: Do a mouse over the DB name when you see the red cross.
There is a tooltip with a error message and/or start QMS with
"qmapshack -d" to see possible debug information.

2017-08-24 Thread Karl Karsten

Hello Michael,

I am not a professional developer or admin guy but this are all the packages I
have installed on my Ubuntu Gnome 16.04.03 LTS box to compile QMS with MySQL,
routino and DEM support. Ubuntu is a kind of "child" from Debian. Maybe Debian
has the same packages.

sudo apt-get install
cmake build-essential subversion mercurial qt5-default qttools5-dev
libqt5webkit5-dev qtscript5-dev qttools5-dev-tools libgdal-dev
libproj-dev libghc-bzlib-dev libgraphics-magick-perl libquazip5-dev
libqt5sql5-mysql gdal-bin

I compile it in this way (same as in QMS docs):

hg clone
https://bitbucket.org/maproom/qmapshack QMapShack

mkdir
build_QMapShack

cd
build_QMapShack

cmake
../QMapShack

make

sudo make
install

Hello,
sorry to raise this newbie question. How to import this patch? I never
did it before.

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] How to upload waypoints from Garmin Edge 1000 to QMS?

2017-08-13 Thread Karl Karsten
Thanks Axel,
I guess the problem is that the new Garmin devices will be on FIT
format. All data will be stored in this format now.
> But it seems that you can access your Garmin device with mounting the
file structure and QMS.
Yes, my Garmin Edge 1000 will be mounted automatically when  connecting
via USB cable. The I can use file browser to see all files with may
folder and files. Also the I see the two storages (internal and SD
card) of my Garmin Edge in QMS. Sending tracks and waypoints from QMS
to my Garmin is no problem, this works fine. But I can only load tracks
from my Garmin to QMS and not the manual created waypoints from my
Garmin to QMS.

waypoints I collected during my tours.
What kind of format is your Etrex
touch 35 using? GPX oder FIT format?

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] How to upload waypoints from Garmin Edge 1000 to QMS?

2017-08-13 Thread Karl Karsten
Hello John,
thanks for your help by using GPSBabel.
I am using current GPSBabel Version: 1.5.4. (Downloaded and compiled by
my own).
I tried:
sudo ./gpsbabel -t -i garmin -f usb: -o gpx -F gpsdata.gpx
==> no result
sudo ./gpsbabel -t -i garmin_fit -f usb: -o gpx -F gpsdata.gpx
==> no
result
sudo ./gpsbabel -D9 -i garmin_fit -f usb:-1
==> "
GPSBabel Version: 1.5.4
fit: Cannot open file 'usb:-1'!
"
My Garmin Edge 1000 is mounted as a file device with direct access to
file structure. I guess usb: will not work here, maybe on older Garmin
devices, like my previous Etrex.
I found a "Location.fit" file in my Garmin file structure, I guess in
this file all the waypoints could be stored ?!
By using:
sudo ./gpsbabel -t -w -D9 -i garmin_fit -f Locations.fit -o gpx -F
gpsdata.gpx
it will create a gpsdata.gpx file (with some error message saying
"skipping unrecognized data type"). I can load gpsdata.gpx in QMS and
it is shown in data section but file is empty.
So I guess importing of waypoints is not supported in GPSBabel and QMS
right now.
Documenation of GPSBabel is stating it as well:
https://www.gpsbabel.org/htmldoc-development/fmt_garmin_fit.html
" ...
This format can...

read tracks

This format has the following options: allpoints .

allpoints option

Read all points even if latitude or longitude is missing.

[Qlandkartegt-users] How to upload waypoints from Garmin Edge 1000 to QMS?

2017-08-12 Thread Karl Karsten
Hello,

I am using a Garmin Edge 1000. Everything works fine to up und
downloads tracks to and from QMS/Garmin.

But I am wondering how I can upload waypoints, which I have created
during a bike ride on my Garmin, to QMS.

Download of waypoint to Garmin is working,  I see the waypoints in my
Garmin.

But I cannot find a way to upload them.

Thanks for a hint ...

[Qlandkartegt-users] How to use Google Maps, Hybrid, Satellite and Terrain streams maps in QMS?

2017-01-08 Thread Karl Karsten
Hello,

I am just testing the migration of my QLandkarteGT projects to the new
QMapShack tool.

First of all, a really big step forward in the last months,
congratulation to the developer team of this great application.

All works fine so far, except the integration of my Google Maps.

In QL there is the possibility to create stream TMS maps by using a
small QL dialog and the following ULRs:

Google Stream Maps
Google - Hybrid http://mt.google.com/vt/lyrs=y=%2=%3=%1
Google - Maps   http://mt.google.com/vt/lyrs=m=%2=%3=%1
Google - Satellite http://mt.google.com/vt/lyrs=s=%2=%3=%1
Google - Terrainhttp://mt.google.com/vt/lyrs=t=%2=%3=%1

I tried to create a TMS file "Google - Maps.tms" similar to the
existing QMS TMS ones:

 Google - Maps
 1
 1024

  http://mt.google.com/vt/lyrs=m=%2=%3=%1;
;

 Google Inc.

When activation the map file in QMS an error windows appears:

"Lesen fehlgeschlagen: /home/karl/GPS/Karten/Google - Maps.tms
Zeile 6, Spalte 46:
error occurred while parsing reference"

There is no further debug information in my console.

Is the format of the URL still valid for QMS? ##SELECTION_END##Or what
to do for activating the Google Maps?

Any help is appreciated - many thanks.

Best regards

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] License question

2015-11-25 Thread Karl Karsten

Please have also a look at Gpsies Webpage. Beside to gpsbabel I am using it to
convert from FIT to GPX for using in QLGT.

Ditto Christian. You beat me to it.
I had just sent a message along the same line when I saw yours.

FWIW, here's the kind of syntax I successfully used to convert FIT files
from a friend's Garmin device (Fenix 3 watch) :

gpsbabel -i garmin_fit -f in.fit -o gpx,garminextensions=1 -F out.gpx

[Qlandkartegt-users] QLandkarteGT on a Raspberry Pi?

2015-09-09 Thread Karl Karsten
Hello,

Inspired by an article in www.heise.de about "7-Zoll-Touch-Display für
Raspberry Pi" I ask myself whether it's possible to run QLandkarteGT on
a Raspberry Pi to build my own Bicycle Navigation System?!

http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/7-Zoll-Touch-Display-fuer-Raspberry-Pi-ab-sofort-erhaeltlich-2808183.html
https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/the-eagerly-awaited-raspberry-pi-display/
http://www.heise.de/forum/heise-online/News-Kommentare/7-Zoll-Touch-Display-fuer-Raspberry-Pi-ab-sofort-erhaeltlich/TomTom-Garmin-nuevi-alle-im-Tiefschlaf/posting-23687105/show/

Some other information I checked:
https://ubuntu-mate.org/raspberry-pi/
http://www.amazon.de/Raspberry-Pi-Model-made-U-K/dp/B00T3BX0L8/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers=UTF8=1441805857=1-2=raspberry+pi+2
http://www.amazon.de/Anker-Zusatzakku-Technologie-USB-ladende-Smartphones/dp/B00M1KZGBK/ref=sr_1_15?s=ce-de=UTF8=1441809842=1-15=powerbank

My rough (and maybe naive) ideas for a prototype:
- Using my Handlebar bag "Lenkertasche" to deposite all the equipment
(electrical staff)
- Using my old Garmin eTrex Vista HCx as a GPS mouse
- Using a strong powerbank to charge the Raspberry Pi
- Using ubuntu Mate as OS
- Installing QLandkarteGT
- Using QLandkarteGT online tracking gpsd functions

Are there any kind of experiences made with Raspberry Pi and GPS mouses
and QLandkarteGT?
Is resolution of RGB 800×480 sufficient for using QLandkarteGT on a
Touch-Display?
Are there any show-stoppers, risk, concerns to start a prototype project?
... ?

[Qlandkartegt-users] QMapShack installation script to install on Ubuntu Gnome 14.04.03

2015-08-24 Thread Karl Karsten
Hello,

I have documented the steps I made to install QMapShack 1.3.0 in a
Ubuntu Gnome 14.04.03.
As I am a newbie with QMapShack maybe it will help other newbies to come
quickly to QMapShack.

Regards
Karl ...

---

Script to install QMapShack 1.3.0 on a Ubuntu Gnome 14.04.03
installed and verified in a VMware virtual machine using
ubuntu-gnome-14.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso

1. Create a directory for all installation files (ex. GPS)
 cd
 mkdir GPS
 cd GPS

2. Install all needed packages for QMapShack
 sudo apt-get install build-essential subversion mercurial qt5-default
qttools5-dev qttools5-dev-tools libqt5webkit5-dev qtscript5-dev
libgdal-dev libproj-dev libghc-bzlib-dev

3. Build and install cmake (manual installation, because QM needs
version 3.x)
Download cmake source files archive from http://www.cmake.org/download/
(ex. cmake-3.3.1.tar.gz)

Extract zipped tar archive
 tar xzvf cmake-3.3.1.tar.gz

Change to download directory
 cd cmake-3.3.1

Build and install
 ./configure
 make
 sudo make install
cd ..

Check cmake version for version 3.x
 cmake --version
== cmake version 3.3.1
== CMake suite maintained and supported by Kitware (kitware.com/cmake).

4. Build and install Routino
Download Routino source files
 svn checkout http://routino.org/svn/branches/libroutino/ routino
 cd routino
Change line 48 of the file 'Makefile.conf' to 'prefix=/usr' using a
editor (ex. gedit)
 gedit Makefile.conf
 make
 sudo make install
 sudo cp src/routino.h /usr/include
 sudo cp src/libroutino.so /usr/lib
 cd ..

5. Build and install QMapshack
Download QMapShack source files
 hg clone https://bitbucket.org/maproom/qmapshack QMapShack

 mkdir build_QMapShack
 cd build_QMapShack
 cmake ../QMapShack
 make
 sudo make install

And finally start QMapShack ...
 qmapshack

[Qlandkartegt-users] The specified profiles XML file could not be loaded

2015-08-22 Thread Karl Karsten
Hello,

first post in this forum.

I am using QLandkarteGT for many years and I really love QLandkarteGT.
Today I am trying to compile QMapshack to evaluate if it ...

Im am more or less a beginner in all that compiling stuff - so what I
did:
1. Build QM according to
https://bitbucket.org/maproom/qmapshack/overview
ok, seems to be working

2. Build Routino
svn checkout http://routino.org/svn/branches/libroutino/ routino
make
sudo make install
sudo cp -r routino /usr/share
sudo cp src/routino.h /usr/include
sudo cp src/libroutino.so to /usr/lib (I do not have lib64)

So far so good, QM is working and I have already imported a map, created
tracks and routes, storing to database - all fine.

But for routino I will get following message at start up of QM.
The specified profiles XML file could not be loaded

And I wondering where the button is to store the path to local routing
data?!

Many thanks for a help.

Re: [Qlandkartegt-users] The specified profiles XML file could not be loaded

2015-08-22 Thread Karl Karsten
Hello Josef,

many thanks - that's the trick.

I changed line 48 of the file 'Makefile.conf' in routino to
'prefix=/usr'
make
sudo make install
sudo cp -r routino /usr/share

Now it works.

 Hi,

I had a similar problem, because make install put the files in
usr/local. You have copied some files to /usr, but not all I think.

Change line 48 of the file 'Makefile.conf' in routino to 'prefix=/usr'.
 then you must nothing copy.
