ReiserFs and qmail

2001-06-19 Thread Paco Gracia

Hello everyone,

We're going to install a new production server with the lastest linux kernel
(2.4.5) and ReiserFS.

Is there any issue regarding qmail?

I have done some research and I found a "Qmail and ReiserFS integration and
optimization HOWTO" in http://www.jedi.claranet.fr

How accurate is the information on that web?

Anything else to take care of?

Thanks in advance

I agree...
qmail won't have new versions???

It's a great program but it's far from being complete... imho

I'd like to see a configure option to support smtp with authentication in
the official qmail release.

Start here and follow it step by step. This is the best qmail document

Best option for sending a newsletter

2001-02-06 Thread Paco Gracia

Hello everyone,

    I have to send a daily
newsletter to 60.000 e-mail addresses that are stored in a MySQL
database. The newsletter is the same
for everybody and the process of composing and sending it will be started from a
PHP web app.

    I have several
doubts:

    1- Should I use mail()
function from PHP, invoke qmail directly or create a mailing list with
ezmlm?
    2- If I don't log the
sending of the newsletter will it increase the speed or just free
CPU?
    3- What side effects
have to set concurrencyremote to high values like 300?
    4- Is it necessary to
use a higher value in tcpserver's -c option if I use mail()
function?
    5- Could I set up a
second qmail instalation for just sending the newsletter so it doesn't slow the
"normal users" mail?

Thanks in advance,
Paco

RE: Xinetd & Qmail

2000-12-27 Thread Paco Gracia

Hello,

This set up used to work with qmail and RH7.0. It uses vpopmail so if
you have a standard qmail instalation you'll have to change vchkpw to use
checkpassword.

Each service is in one file inside /etc/xinet.d. Read xinet man pages to
allow and deny connections, set a maximun number of concurrent connections,
bind and external ip to an internal ip, configure your logs, etc...

tcpserver was the only solution before xinet and it is still the best
solution for advanced qmail instalations. For nothing too complicated xinet
can do the job perfectly... and it is most straightforward than tcpserver.
So the choice depends on your needs.

Bye.

/etc/xinet.d/smtp

# default: on
service smtp
{
disable = no
socket_type = stream
protocol= tcp
wait= no
user= qmaild
server  = /var/qmail/bin/tcp-env
server_args = /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd
log_on_success  += USERID
log_on_failure  += USERID
}

/etc/xinet.d/pop

# default: on
service pop3
{
disable = no
socket_type = stream
wait= no
user= root
server  = /var/qmail/bin/qmail-popup
server_args = your.mail.server /home/vpopmail/bin/vchkpw
/var/qmail/bin/qmail-pop3d Maildir
log_on_success  += USERID
log_on_failure  += USERID
}
