[qmailtoaster] Internal Server Error with qmailadmin

2009-09-01 Thread senthil vel
Dear List,

My qmt server working properly for a long time. Suddenly when
trying to reset the password of a particular mail id we got the
following error.

Internal Server Error
-
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was
unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, r...@localhost and inform them
of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may
have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error
log.

while checking the http error log, we found the following..

Tue Sep 01 09:18:17 2009] [error] [client 1.2.3.4] Premature end of
script headers: index.cgi, referer:
http://mail.mydomain.com/qmailadmin/index.cgi/com/moduser?user=postmasterdom=mydomain.comtime=1251776808moduser=username

But we never changed anything in the index.cgi. But while checking,
the password seems to be reset but the ouput does not reflected in the
browser.

Also this does not seems to be a global problem. Because i can reset
the password to some other mail ids in the same domain.

will deleting the account and recreate it will solve the problem. Is
there any other way to fix the isse. Please advise...

Thanks and Regards,

Re: [qmailtoaster] Internal Server Error with qmailadmin

2009-09-01 Thread Janno Sannik

Hello

Check the dir_control table in vpopmail database. If in cur_users field
has some huge number (for example 2147483647) then modify it to be zero.
It creates overflow and hence the internal server error.

This would be the first thing to check. If that didn't work, let us know.

i didn't look properly. you have problem with qmailadmin and not

Internationalized domain names have been legal and supported for a

Guess I missed that one.
So did the original poster try creating a domain using it then? If it's
been legal for a few years I have trouble thinking that it hasn't
already been coded in.
And don't just try using vqadmin to add it and letting an error there be
the determining factor that it doesn't work. Try adding the domain from
the CLI using vpopmail tools to do it.

If you have a large message stuck in the wuee then you may need to go in

Also check your DNS resolution. Slow SMTP and POP3 are usually caused by
a broken DNS resolver somewhere.

Your root emails are defined in /var/qmail/alias/.qmail-root . This
*should* be a valid destination, even if it's a box you do not check. If
this is not something you wish to do, I recommend you lower your
queuelifetime to a low number (4-6 hours) so that those emails will be
removed after that period of time.

2) Why is the UpdateSaneSecurity not working? Is anyone else getting
this?  Did something change?

It doesn't necessarily mean anything catastrophic. If you tried to
download the virus definition while it was in the middle of propagating
on their servers then this is normal. As a matter of fact, it's normal
to get these errors 2-4 times a day.
You may also be running an older version of clam (you did not say in the
message) in which case the updated definition will probably always fail.
Still nothing major to worry about. Your clamav just won't use those
definitions.

3) What should I do to fix this? Ignore it?

Depends on how you answered the above.
Let us know if you have any more questions.

Probably the case. Just telnet to pop3 port and see if welcome message
appears in few seconds or it takes upto few minutes. If it appears in
few minutes, then you most probably have DNS resolving issues on your
qmail box. One simple thing is that ISP's DNS is down/broken and is not
directly related to your box. Try changing DNS servers to see if it helps.

 If you have a large message stuck in the wuee then you may need to go in
 and delete the message.
 Also check your DNS resolution. Slow SMTP and POP3 are usually caused by a
 broken DNS resolver somewhere.

  Probably the case. Just telnet to pop3 port and see if welcome message
 appears in few seconds or it takes upto few minutes. If it appears in few
 minutes, then you most probably have DNS resolving issues on your qmail box.
 One simple thing is that ISP's DNS is down/broken and is not directly
 related to your box. Try changing DNS servers to see if it helps.

Re: [qmailtoaster] pop3 slow

2009-09-01 Thread Eric Shubert

Just 'dig' a few known domains and see what response times look like.

# dig qmailtoaster.com
# dig google.com
# dig yahoo.com

Do you have a caching nameserver installed on your toaster? That might help.
# yum install caching-nameserver bind-chroot

What's in your /etc/resolv.conf file?
(this shows the nameservers for resolving DNS)

Is your pop3 download and SMTP upload slowness continual during the
session/transfer, or is is just slow getting started?

Thanks. I'm not very sure, but it used to work. I don't have many users

examples of a proper DNS config?

Re: [qmailtoaster] Is it getting Blocked?

2009-09-01 Thread Jim Shupert

Friends,  :: an update ::

I have retained the postfix how to in case i need it
I got my thing working via sendmail ( 'cause i was close ) and using
the providers mailserver.( smtp.fuse.net )

basically i am able to monitor our servers ( like I am outside the
network )  via this dsl

and I can send an email that I can get on my mobile device

so i can get to my fuse account ( the dsl Ma Bell folks here in cincy )
and I have THAT account set to forward mail to my pps account ( that
uses a qmail toaster mail server )

I reckon -- qmail sees that as , well ... i do not know -- but it never
gets to my inside
( but , i am basically happy - cause I can have my desk clinet also
looking at my fuse and --it also rings in my pocketso..it is workable )

I was wondering what logs I might look at to see if this 'fuse relay '
is hitting my qmail toaster server?

I reckon I will never get the messages to - just come through.

Thanks

Hey Jim,

I just happened to be doing this today, so here are my notes on how to
set up postfix to send mail out from a generic server, like for
logwatch output and such (that would otherwise go to r...@localhost).

{replace what's in braces, and remove braces}

# yum install postfix
# yum remove sendmail

# cd /etc/pki/tls/certs
# make postcert.pem

# echo {submission.server.com}:587 {user:passwd} \
 /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd
# chmod 600 /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd
# chown root:root /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd
# postmap /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd

Edit /etc/aliases if desired, then do newaliases command:
root:sysadmin
# newaliases

Edit /etc/postfix/main.cf, changing these from the default values
(this was CentOS5.3):

myorigin = $mydomain
#mydestination =
mynetworks_style = host
relayhost = {submission.server.com}:587
smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes
smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd
smtp_sasl_security_options =
smtp_use_tls = yes
smtp_tls_CAfile = /etc/pki/tls/certs/postcert.pem
smtp_tls_session_cache_database = btree:/var/run/smtp_tls_session/cache

# service postfix start
# chkconfig postfix on

That should do it.
Note, this configuration relies on hostname being set correctly for
your domain. If it's not, you'll need to change the myorigin variable
appropriately.

Please let us know whether or not this works for you.

In a typical configuration, it would be hitting your smtp server port
25, which you would see in your smtp log:

# qmlog -lc fuse\.net

[qmailtoaster] check for mail from email address

2009-09-01 Thread Rajesh M
hello

i noted that as long as i smtp authenticate qmail does not check to ensure
that the mailfrom email id (domain name part) exists in the rcpthosts file
or not.

i need to check to ensure that the domain part of the mailfrom email id is
a domain hosted on my server.

example if domain1.com is hosted on on my server and therefore present in
rcpthosts file.

and u...@domain1.com is sending an email after smtp authentication.

then while accepting this email i would need qmail smtp to check to ensure
that domain1.com is existing on the server.

now the question is this possible by modifying the qmail smtp file and
then recompiling the same ?

secondly which parts should i need to modify, any tips on this would be
helpful ?

thirdly i would prefer not to modify the qmail smtp and would rather
modify spamdyke if possible, any tips on this would be helpful ?

thanks
rajesh

This is possible with the eMPF patch which is included with the Toaster.
This subject has been brought up many times in the past.
