[qmailtoaster] Cname Lookup Failed Temporarily - Patch Solution

2015-03-26 Thread Edwin C
Hello,

I have been recently realized a problem / BUG common to so far 3 qmail toaster
installs, that of the dreaded:

---

CNAME lookup failed temporarily. (#4.4.3)
I'm not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too
long.

---

found at /var/log/qmail/send/current

It happens when I send email to a particular client. Their domain dns is
hosted by 1and1 Germany.

I found this error consistent with my 2 other qmailtoaster installs.

But no error with my postfix and exim servers.

I have come to the conclusion that maybe qmailtoaster needs patching.

That maybe our current qmailtoaster in Centos5 needs patching.

In the document:
https://www.webfactory.de/blog/patch-qmail-in-ubuntu-to-avoid-cname-lookup-failed-temporarily-errors

It says:

qmail itself has a problem with these large DNS replies as it was
designed to handle packets not over 512 byte in size. So, when
connecting to a site, it might fail with the misleading message CNAME lookup
failed temporarily. (#4.4.3), defer message delivery and eventually time out.

I have tried installing bind properly to no avail.

---

My request is to fix qmailtoaster so it can handle these large DNS replies as
stated in the document above.

Who will be tapped to do it? And maybe we can all chip in and make this fix
happen an fast.

Best wishes,
Edwin

Hi,
Do you run your own DNS caching server?
If not try using dnsmasq, simple to install and configure.
It might solve your issue as I cannot find that response
in my logs.

RE: [qmailtoaster] Cname Lookup Failed Temporarily - Patch Solution

2015-03-26 Thread Edwin C
I am running bind caching-nameserver.

I will try dnsmasq.

Temporarily I have resorted to using external smtp servers via smtproutes

Just last night, one qmailtoaster #1 I installed caching-nameserver started
working when I purged the dns cache.

But the other qmailtoaster #2 still has the cname lookup failed temporarily
error.

I will try dnsmasq. Thank you for the clue.
