[qmailtoaster] Thanks for a great set of packages!
About a month ago I replaced our old QmailToaster-based spam filters with the latest stuff. The old systems were not ideally configured: - no DNS blacklist lookups - no URI blacklist lookups - no DCC, Razor, Pyzor - no automated SpamAssassin rule updates - no spamdyke They were basically just ClamAV and SpamAssassin with bayes and stock rules plus some custom rules that I never touched because they were put in place by a predecessor and I didn't want to break anything. Despite these deficiencies the old systems were so much better than nothing. The new systems have all the features listed above enabled. This morning I opened my mailbox and discovered that I received -zero- spam over the weekend. First time in years. My company email address has existed for at least 10 years and I've used it in all kinds of online accounts, mailing list postings, etc. Team and community: Thanks for a great set of packages and great support! [qmailtoaster] Thanks!
Just wanted to drop a note and say thanks. Why you ask? I'll tell you. I finally figured something out yesterday. I mysteriously got this book delivered to my house the other day. It is a good book, and one that I was interested in (it's on interfacing computers to physical devices through microprocessor integration). But I didn't order it! Someone got me something from my Amazon wish list. I have a pretty good idea who, and I'll send them a note off-list as well, but in the event that guess is incorrect I figured I would say thanks to everyone. That really made my day! - Qmailtoaster is sponsored by Vickers Consulting Group (www.vickersconsulting.com) Vickers Consulting Group offers Qmailtoaster support and installations. Jake, you know you are a Nerd when you enjoy a good tech manual LOL I have a few like that but have not had the time to really enjoy them. I have had to re-gear my thought process for networking and server technologies. Maybe when I retire I will build a giant Bot to carry my old @$$ around. Should have a new release out in the next couple days that backs up just about everything you can think of. If there's something in particular you would like to see backed up, just let me know! Thanks again. Re: [qmailtoaster] Thanks for all the help
OUCH! First time I've ever seen a program that didn't support Hosts, of course most of my experience is on Novell and Windows. I'll give it a shot. [qmailtoaster] Thanks (and Happy New Year!)
Thanks for your help everyone, my toaster is cooking nicely. :-) I have a couple of questions before I go quiet for a little while and study a bit more: When I came to the part of the instructions that described setting up a certificate I couldn't find the directory referred to. (I am working with Fedora Core 4 rather than Centos, would that make a difference?) Are there any tools that would help me import mail from my Exchange Server? I don't have too many mailboxes so could easily start with a .pst file from Exchange. Once again, Many thanks for the good advice and suggestions. I have enjoyed getting this far tremendously and this is in no small part due to the friendliness of this group. Happy New Year. Re: [qmailtoaster] Thanks for Qmail Toaster!
Michael Hicks wrote: Hi All: I just want to say thanks for creating such a great package and installation guide. Until last saturday I was using the QVCS package, then a power outage hosed my server. When I tried to reinstall qvcs, the install script was failing and the mailing list didn't seem to have any answers, so I frantically went in search of another package, which is how I discovered Qmail Toaster. I ran the CentOS 4.0 barebones guide and it worked like a charm. I copied over my maildirs, changed permissions and was up and running. Thanks for saving my bacon! It also looks like this list is much more active - I'm really excited to start learning about this setup's advanced capabilities, as it looks way more capable and up-to-date than the QVCS guide was. Here are some observations I had when doing the install: Thank Nick. He has put a lot of work into the project, and continues to do so. This is one of the more friendly lists I've been on. I don't think anyone has said 'RTFM' here yet. We all try and help everyone else out, since we all started at ground zero ourselves. We may not give the best answers, but we're trying! - I have a copy of Life w/Qmail on my shelf - I'll start reading it to learn more. I'm eager to see how I can configure RBL, white lists, etc. Anything to stop the tide of spam. Is there anywhere that I can find a diagram of how this whole setup is layed-out? This site has a nice picture of how the whole setup works: http://www.nrg4u.com/ I printed one out myself to hang on the wall. Adding RBL's are rather easy. Just add them into the /var/qmail/control/blacklists in the following format: -r rbl.spamcop.net Spam is a popular subject on the list. You may want to check out the archives (http://www.mail-archive.com/qmailtoaster-list@qmailtoaster.com/) or follow some of the links off of the bottom of Nick's site (www.qmailtoaster.com). We're currently working on rolling out a wiki to try and get all of the little ins and outs in one place, so keep an eye out for when that officially rolls out.
