Re: [qmailtoaster] spamassassin faulty scoring rule---FH_DATE_PAST_20XX

2010-01-02 Thread David Good

 Happy New Year,

There is a rule in spamassassin that has started running up your spam
scores (erroneously) with the beginning of the new decade, that has a
(alledged) fix in svn, and that hasn't been propagated out for mass
 consumption.

and i now see shubes reported this 2 days ago.

must...read...list...mail...before posting.

sorry for the noise.

Thanks for that. I wondered why I was getting an increase in spam. Maybe change
it from 20XX to 201X - Should be set for the next 10 years ;)

 Happy New Year,

I lurk on the centos list and this was discussed
 1/2/2010.  This
affected my box, so I am re-listing it here, 'cuz it
 appears to affect
all spamassassin users not using the latest ruleset.

Gilbert says look for this in your email headers:

 snip
  X-Spam-Report:
       *  3.4 FH_DATE_PAST_20XX The
date is grossly in the future.
 /snip

 Fabian says:

 snip
Yes and they haven't fixed it (yet) :
 https://issues.apache.org/SpamAssassin/show_bug.cgi?id=6269
Change your score for that rule, or disable it, or change
 it like
 described in the bug entry
I like the fact that they said it was fixed in svn some
 months ago,
but it's still in svn and not in the $current release
 so  ... :/
Nothing than a sa-update will not fix when they decide to
 update the
 base rules
 /snip

 Kai says:

 snip
 add

 score FH_DATE_PAST_20XX 0

 to your /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf
And you should use Bayes. A well-trained Bayes would have
 balanced that
 down (assuming it was ham).
 /snip

thanks to gilbert, fabian, and kai for the thread.

I am on a Centos 4.x box, and I seem to be having perl
 issues with
running sa-update that I need to troubleshoot on
 Monday...so you may or
may not be affected.  Also, that link seems to imply
 the fix has been
pushed out with ruleset 895075.   Heads up
 anyways.

 regards,
 fuzzy
