[Qt-creator] Qt Creator 9.0 will enter string freeze on EOB Thu, 27.10.2022

Hello,

We have released Qt Creator 9.0 beta today 
(https://www.qt.io/blog/qt-creator-9-beta2-released) and are working towards 
completing the RC in two weeks.

To allow documentation engineers, translators, and QA to do their jobs, no 
changes to the translatable UI strings will be allowed after EOB tomorrow, 
27.10.2022.

If you must fix typos or something else that cannot wait for version 10, add me 
as a reviewer in Gerrit and send a message to  
localizat...@qt-project.org.

If you would like to translate Qt Creator 9.0, read the instructions in 
https://github.com/qt-creator/qt-creator/blob/master/share/qtcreator/translations/README.md
 and send a message to the localization list, to avoid duplicate work. We are 
already working on the German translation.

Creator Manual FAQ has some information about how to set the import paths in 
the .pro file:

All of this seems to work perfectly fine here with Qt Creator 4.9.2 from the 
online installer, Qt 5.12.4 Desktop, macOS 10.14.6, dummy “Qt Quick Application 
- Stack” with qmake.

Reg. Qt Quick Designer maybe check that
Preferences > Qt Quick > Qt Quick Designer > QML Emulation Layer is using the 
fallback emulation with the default path, but that wouldn’t explain errors in 
the text editor afaik.

Hello,

As announced on the qt-creator list last week, the Qt Creator 4.10 branch is 
entering string freeze tonight at 24:00 UTC. If you still have changes pending 
that touch any strings marked translatable, please get them reviewed and 
submitted today. As of tomorrow, all changes to translatable strings will need 
to go to the master branch.

This means that it should be possible for translators to start your work 
tomorrow.

Hello,

Not much has changed in Qt Designer for a while. The menu item you referred to 
is available in the Qt Designer integrated into Qt Creator. That means, it 
becomes visible when you open a .ui formin Qt Creator (that is actually opened 
in the integrated Qt Designer). This works for me in 4.9, at least. I’ll try to 
make this clearer in the docs.

QtCreator used to load my custom widgets plugin. for this, i append to
QT_PLUGIN_PATH the path containing designer/libMywidgets.so
But this does not work anymore.
Looking at strace, i can see that the additional Qt_PLUGIN_PATH is
also scanned for other Qt plugin types, but not for designer plugins.
Even qtcreator's designer plugins folder is not scanned according to
the trace.
Help online also suggests going to look in Tools/Form Editor / About
designer plugins, but this menu entry does not exist
This is in 4.7.0, and 4.8.0 seems to do the same. Did designer plugins
usage change?

The Qt Creator 4.4 branch will enter string freeze tonight. Starting tomorrow, 
all patches that touch translatable strings must be targeted to the master 
branch. If you need to change strings as a part of a P0 bug fix, you must send 
a message of the change to the localization list.

Translators, it should be safe to start working on updating translations for Qt 
Creator 4.4 tomorrow.

You can open a translation file in Qt Linguist from Qt Creator by 
right-clicking a TS file in the Projects view and selecting Open With > Qt 
Linguist in the context menu:

in Qt-Creator we can add some more external Tools. By default the two linguist 
steps: lupdate and lrelease are implemented.

I added a new one on which i call linguist, so that i can open Qt-Linguist 
directly from inside Qt-Creator. it works, but not completely as i want.

I want to add all the ts-files from the project, which are included in the 
pro-file as arguments, like on the console, when i run the linguist command.
I tried it with: %{CurrentProject:Translations} but this did not work. Linguist 
starts, but the ts-files will not be loaded.

Is this possible like i want it and if yes, can someone help me to find the 
right argument i have to add?

I kept trying to figure out what was going on. I had concluded that it had 
something to do with Microsoft's symbol server. Using tcpdump I could see that 
it was doing things. So, I shut down that day to think about it. The next day I 
tested it again and there was no delay. My internet connection was fast on both 
days. So, I think that the problem is resolved. I did not know that you can 
turn on the debugger log. I'll do that if this happens again. I also tried to 
store the symbols locally, but not sure that I've done that correctly. I do see 
my symbols in the directory specified and Qt's symbols, but no Microsoft symbol 
files.

could you paste the content of the debugger log ( Window -> Views -> Debugger 
Log ) at http://creator.pastebin.com. Please also enable the verbose option in 
the context menu of the log.

I guess the delay is caused by a symbol server. CDB might want to collect the 
symbols of the rebuild modules from there which can take some time. All 
relevant information should be in the log mentioned above.

main(). I did make a difference (much less than 2 minutes). But I remember it 
being almost instantaneous a few days ago. If I re-debug without doing a 
rebuild it is still 'instantaneous'.

We have a Qt Creator developer's guide that is published online in 
documentation snapshots:

There is also some class documentation available in the guide:

http://doc-snapshots.qt.io/qtcreator-extending/qtcreator-api.html#plugins 

The guide is a work in progress, but hopefully it helps. As described in the 
docs, you can use a wizard to generate the files needed for a basic plugin.
