Subject: [QUAD-L] quad anniversary.

June 3rd is the 4th aniversary of quad-dom for my friend Silas. I know this is always a hard time for him so help me make this a good day! I know a bunch of people who are thrilled for every day that they have had with him since his injury. It has not been easy the whole way...but for me it has been worth it. I could not imagine him not being in my life. So SilasInstead of saying happy anniversary...since I don't think that is appropiate, Think of how far you have come. From being sucidal and depressed, from being bed ridden and sick, to being a successfull business man and farmer. A wonderful father, son, brother and friend.Thnaks for the past 4 years as far as I am concerned.

Last visit to Chicago, his driver dump the RV's toilet reservior into the Chicago River, then denied doing it.  Later, they pleaded no contest to dumping the reserviors into the Chicago River just as a tour boat passed under, soaking the 50+ passengers with a hugh bio-hazard surprise.  Amazing eh? Hey everyone,
I just found out from one of the nurses that I could sign on as a guest through their internet connection since that is all my lap top is picking up. I found that pretty exciting.
My surgery was Wed. morning and I just saw the doctor this morning. He said he would send me out of here probably on Monday but I really am considering a rehab hospital. First I will tell you that it does hurt but the pain is finally treatable through the pain pump. I think its something like dylantin. I'm not sure how its spelled but my skin breaks out in reaction to morphine (burning, turns red.) I saw the flap. It's big but does look good. There is a little dark area close to a couple of the staples but the doctor isn't worried about it. It hasnt gotten any worse. I just can'tbelieve how bit the incision is for this. Its from close to my anus to close to my knee on the back. He didn't take any skin from anywhere else either which is a plus for me.
The care could be better. I wonder somedays if I would be better off at home because I feel like I'm not getting it here. Last night my catheter leaked so my bed was wet. The cna came in to change it Then it leaked again, just then I knew that it was clogged and it was about time to change it anyhow so I told them I needed a new one. They didn't have the size I needed on this floor and waited for transport to bring it up. He came up an hour later but never got the message about the catheter. I just kept leaking, sitting in a mess. I finally got it a couple of hours after that and I still needed to do my bowel program. I brought the magic bullets with me but things didn't run smoothly. I usually go every 3 days considering since I went on Tues., I tried last night. I waited a longtime and nothing. The only thing that did
come out was the suppository. I normally go sitting up and change fo diet/meds. I ended up going a couple of hours later but didn't empty. Has this happened to anyone else after doing your bowel program sitting up for so long?
So the patient care whatever's started pushing me out of the door before I could even act like myself. Asking if I were going home or not. The doctor said they asked him 5 times and he said no that he is keeping me. Anyhow I am pretty sure that I will go to a rehab facility but it's a matter of who has a bed. I might have to turn one down. This hospital is rated one of the top 100 but I don't see how with the nursing. Some are nice but the majority aren't really helpling that much. I rarely see them to tell you the truth. I then have a few great ones who do everything that they can. Iknow in rehab facilities and nursing homes, the nurses are more underpaid here so there is a shortalge so they are pretty thinned out. I have the weekend to think about it. The mattress was ordered by the case/social worker and can always be cancelled.
All in all, so far health wise I am doing great. Way better than I expected.

[QUAD-L] MAKE SOME NOISE AND BE HEARD

2006-06-03 Thread LadyOnWheels725

Hi Stacy,
The greatest gift that we have is our
mouth and no one can talk
about our needs better than
us. Girl Make some noise !!! If you can't get good basic care
from your assigned CNA or Nurse, then ask for the Floor Supervisor.
If you still aren't happy then get on your phone and ask for Shift hospital
supervisor nurse.
If you are sitting in a water bed
of pee or in misery due to depression your overall health is going to
suffer.
If you can't speak out for yourself ask
for a socialworker and if your are not happy with that go the ombudsman
route. There are advocates to help you. That is what I did for 25
years before I changed seats.
AND PLEASE,,PLEASE TELL YOUR DOCTOR
ABOUT INFERIOR CARE,,THEY DO WANT TO KNOW.
