Hey Lil'-
Long time no hear from. I have been going through the same thing (except the
UTI's, I did have a bad one a couple of months ago, it was only my second UTI
in almost 20 yrs) and am now on midodrine also. I am feeling better until the
midodrine wears off after 3 hours. My blood pressure has always been low; but I
have had alot more lows with near passing out with always feeling tired and
light-headed. My lab work came back good, and so did my adrenal gland test. I
am and always have been lean, but I am wondering if the atrophy I have had has
something to do with it.?
Kind of sounds like we are in the same boat, as I recall you are just a
lil'-thing... haha!
How much midodrine are you taking?

i have really low bp, like 50/30s and started med for it but not helping, plus
i'm fainting at least 2 times a days.(i have fainted all my life, when scared
real bad or hurt but never daily unttil last few months) then i'm so exhausted
from that i don't want to do much. my son (10 yrs old) has been gone while this
problem has become so invading and i'm worried what he'll think we he realizes
it, he worries about me a lot anyway, never admit it though.
my pcp had mri brain, cervical area, ecg, and vascular ultrasound of neck done,
all results were normal. so referral to cardiac doc and he ran ekg, seemed ok,
but put me on 24/7 heart moniter for 30 days, several spells in 3 days. he
doubled the midodrine* plus referred me to a Electrophysiologist (the names are
getting weirder). it is really scary cuz i was the youngest patient in 4 story
building by 20 years i'm only 28!
i keep getting uti's, will cure one 2 weeks later its on the way back. my
urologist and rehab doc don't like each other or agree on what to do and i
don't know which to go with. the rehab doc wants to fight the uti's by
inserting some bacteria, he says iss new procedure, my uro says the rehab doc

I have low blood pressure too.  I also take midodrine, they are 5 mg tabs I
usually take three per day.  Another thing I was given to combat low blood
pressure was Sudafed I can take up to 30 mg four times a day.  Ask your doctor
about Sudafed.  I still wear Ted hose and a waistband.  I feel so much better
when my blood pressure is above a hundred systolic.  When I need a midodrine I
know it's about 70 systolic or lower.  Good luck.

My husband changes mine about every four to six weeks.  If it's working fine I
like to go to the six weeks.  I had a urologist tell me if it works go longer,
when that's changed is when you can introduce bacteria.  I also take 1 g of
urex per day.  I know this has helped me not get bladder infections.

I also suffer from this malady and have so for the majority of the 13 years I
have spent in this chair.
The first three years of my chairbound existence was largely spent lying back
in my wheelchair.
My problem is especially acute when I stay down for an entire day and then get
up and try to eat a heavy meal.  It usually takes me an hour and a half to get
my blood pressure up to a level where I can go into my office to work.  I also
find it extremely difficult to eat within an hour or so of getting up and then
get into my Van to be driven around.
Here are my suggestions:
1.  Have someone take your blood pressure when this is transpiring to get a
good idea how low it is actually going.
2.  Start wearing an abdominal Binder if you are not already doing so.  In
doing so helps contract the diaphragm and increases the blood   pressure, at
least in my case.

3.  If your BP is going to low, you might want to talk to your physician about
having ephedrine on hand for really difficult times.
4.  If it is at all possible, you need to eat lighter meals.  For me this is
impractical as I am alone most of the day and need to maintain my blood sugar,
but I try to factor in that I will usually have to sit back for anywhere from
30 minutes to one hour before getting on with my normal daily activities.
5.  I also had a doctor suggests that I sleep with my head inclined at a 30°
angle.  I haven't been able to do this too much, but when I do I have noticed I
am able to get going much quicker.
I hope this helps.  Also make sure you take a look at all the other responses
as they additionally have a lot of experience dealing with issues like this.

I am not sure where you got your information, but even based upon
Microsoft's history with delays of OS releases, the end of this year is
ludricrous. There isn't even anything in Beta testing right now, let alone
Windows 7, Mohave, or whatever. Microsoft is too busy right now trying to
bolster Vista's image to worry about an entirely new OS.

thinking about trying the Vista voice recognition software. For those of
you who have switched from Dragon NaturallySpeaking to the Vista program,
does the program offer the ability to move the mouse vocally? Is it almost
as efficient as Dragon NaturallySpeaking? I would love to hear your input.

I am also considering switching over to a Macintosh. I have heard that
Dragon NaturallySpeaking now has software for the Macs, but I have found
very little online about this product. I don't know how much it cost or
whether it is as good as the normal version. I think it would be nice to go
over to a system which is much more stable. It would be a big change for
 me, but what the heck.

Yeah, they're absolutely right about US healthcare being in crisis. I recently
came back to Canada(lucky for me I have dual citizenship) and its night and day
compared to the US. The problem with petitioning down there in my opinion is
that they REALLY DON'T CARE. If there were some caring people in power things
would be done right, and judging from the evidence, caring is furthest from
their mind. Not that we shouldn't petition, just try to get these people to
have a heart. Excuse my rambling but I am shocked by the difference between the
people in healthcare here, and those in florida where I came from. Dylan c5/6

Dear Dana Wray,
Our brand new Stand Up for Health Care website is already making a big splash.
Thousands of people have visited the site to learn about the health care
crisis and take action in support of guaranteed quality, affordable health
care for all. Together, we're going to make a major impact on the national
health care debate.
But that will only happen if activists like you continue to come together to
make a strong, united call for real health care reform.
You can do your part by signing our petition to John McCain and Barack Obama.
The petition sends a clear message that the American people will hold the
candidates accountable for improving our nation's health care system so that
no one is left out.
Stand Up for Health Care by signing our petition right now:
http://www.standupforhealthcare.org/signthepetition
Looking at the comments from the thousands of petition signers so far, I got a
strong reminder of why this issue is so important for all Americans.
Here's what some of our supporters had to say:
Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness - these are fundamental
principles which form the basis of our Constitution. All of these aims are
dependent on access to affordable health care.
-- William from Arizona
We need better health care for our citizens. I'm one of the lucky ones. As a
teacher I have good benefits. But many of my students and their families
aren't so lucky, and can't get the treatment that they need.
-- Meredith from Pennsylvania
Because one is not in perfect health is no reason to deny health insurance.
After all, health insurance is for when you are sick and in need of it!
-- Jack from Oregon
Adequate, affordable health care should be a civil right, guaranteed to all
residents of the United States. It is criminal that insurance companies can
cherry pick who they cover and what services they feel like paying for. The
frequency of bankrupcy caused by health care expenses is appalling. I expect
whoever wins the presidency to make health care a priority!!!
-- Carol from Pennsylvania

Join William, Meredith, Jack, Carol and thousands of others by adding your
name to our petition for quality, affordable health care for all:
http://www.standupforhealthcare.org/signthepetition
The movement for health care reform has been growing for years, and now the
time has finally come to get real results.
Thank you for being part of this effort.
Sincerely,
Julia Eisman

He has very bad spasms and pain and they want to get a Baclofen Pump and

RE: [QUAD-L] serious health questions

2008-08-02 Thread Merrill
All good advice. Also check your meds. Baclophin
(spelling) and some other bladder pills lower BP as do anti spasmodic and
pain meds. I would always pass out in the shower after removing the binder.
Have someone hold a fist into the abdomen helps if you can not bend forwards
or way back.

Hi All,

Is there a chance your recently lower-than-youir-average BP and fainting
could be related to the summer heat or humidity? Or are you in A/C all
day... including not waiting for a vehicle A/C to cool off? My BP drops
every summer and even more if I go out in the heat. (It makes work in a
geenhouse... uh... interesting to say the least.

Best of luck!

the UTI's, I did have a bad one a couple of months ago, it was only my
second UTI in almost 20 yrs) and am now on midodrine also. I am feeling
better until the midodrine wears off after 3 hours. My blood pressure has
always been low; but I have had alot more lows with near passing out
with always feeling tired and light-headed. My lab work came back good,
and so did my adrenal gland test. I am and always have been lean, but I am
wondering if the atrophy I have had has something to do with it.?
Kind of sounds like we are in the same boat, as I recall you are just a

How much midodrine are you taking?

my pcp had mri brain, cervical area, ecg, and vascular ultrasound of neck

seemed ok, but put me on 24/7 heart moniter for 30 days, several spells in 3

i was the youngest patient in 4 story building by 20 years i'm only 28!

The tightest fitting TED hose might help the low bp. Check the stoma as the
cause. Near everything in those pumps will lower bp so countering with a
med might not have desirable affects where you are lowering. Fine line
between raising bp and hyper tension.

I also suffer from this malady and have so for the majority of the 13 years
I have spent in this chair.
The first three years of my chairbound existence was largely spent lying back
in my wheelchair.
My problem is especially acute when I stay down for an entire day and then
get up and try to eat a heavy meal. It usually takes me an hour and a half to
get my blood pressure up to a level where I can go into my office to work. I
also find it extremely difficult to eat within an hour or so of getting up and
then get into my Van to be driven around.

FW: [QUAD-L] serious health questions - heat

2008-08-02 Thread Merrill
Lack of enough water is often over looked as lowering BP and major cause for
UTIs. Need more in the summer so it is a good reason to push fluids. What
bothers me is having low BP and feeling so tired at night. The moment my
head hits the pillow I am awake all night. Next day you bet my BP is low.
I do not take meds for prostate or bladder so raising my BP is not fighting
these. The double espresso in the AM will raise blood pressure in moments.
I use the supra pubic so my bladder and prostate can get as tight as they
want.

Sorry Danny but I thanked you too soon for misinformation. Windows 7 is
going to be AWHILE in coming. Even at this EXTREEMLY early date, Microsoft
is saying that Windows 7 won't be ready until (AT THE EARLIEST) after late
January 2010.

Vista's speech recognition is ok but nowhere near as good as Dragon
naturally speaking. I use Dragon naturally speaking 9b pro on a vista
machine. I would recommend holding off on buying a new machine because Vista
is being replaced at the end of the year by Microsoft's new operating system
Windows 7. Hope this helps!

I am considering getting a new computer within the next few months and I am
thinking about trying the Vista voice recognition software.
