[QUAD-L] 41st Anniversary
Today is 41 years ago at 4:15 I was trying to learn to do jumps on a 250 Kawasaki notarized dirt bike. I went with n old boyfriend to watch him, he was very good. Then he decided that I should learn, I told him I didn't want to. We had taken my Mom out for lunch and the last thing she said to me as she looked at the dirt bike tied down in the back of his van I don't want you riding that thing. So, I reminded Eddie as he was attaching the helmet onto me ... for the first time I want to do something my Mother told me to do. But he wouldn't hear of it. He showed me how the gas and break worked and then I started zipping around very sloppy. Then I accidental went over a jump, the bike flew ... I loved it, I was hooked. I asked him How can I make this bike go higher and faster over the jump? He said When the front wheel hits the jump, give it all the gas. So I backed up, looked at my watch 4:15. This is the only time I'm going to try this because I promised Mom I'd pick up my sister Patti and bring home my sister DeDee's girlfriend because we were on Easter break from school. I was 17 a junior in high school Patti was 16 a sophomore and DeeDee was 14 in 8th grade. So, over the jump I went but when the front wheel hit the jump I FORGOT to lift the handle bars up. SHIT! I knew right then and there I did something wrong. I ended up flying through the air, in slow motion, at 30 miles an hour on till I hit the side of a very large jump head on. While I was in the air I knew when I hit the ground I was going to either die instantly or break my neck and be paralyzed for life. I landed on my left side, when I opened my eyes I saw the dirt and thought I was buried until Eddie came and turned me onto my back. He said Are you alright? I told him immediately No, I broke my neck. Call an ambulance and get me a blanket because I'm in shock. It was so very, very strange. How could I possibly know that I broke my neck? Ya if I had listened to my mom I wouldn't have busted my neck either. We live and learn, that was my lesson for that day. [QUAD-L] memories
Isn't it strange how after more than forty years every second of our last hour standing is seared in our memory. I can recall every tiny detail of that day. I guess those last glorious moments were the greatest.
Re: [QUAD-L] 41st Anniversary
Happy Anniversary Bobbie, Hope you do something fun!

I knew instantly that I was paralyzed because I looked at my hand and it would not move. I fell backwards off of scaffolding. [QUAD-L] Injury anniversaries
I always loved this quote and find it very appropriate for my 41st anniversary; That, that doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Bobbie Smile Everyday
