You have seen the light, lol. For those with sight impairments, that might not be possible. For others in scooters, wheelchairs, walkers and those with developmental disabilities who are not represented, may not have the necessary support network and advocates working on their behalf and betterment. Each day it seems like ADA and what it represents is getting watered down to benefit another town crier. We need to get the word out daily, not once a decade. I can't bring myself to say anything discouraging to someone that is pushing a positive message for me and those like me. I've done that work before and people bitched because it didn't represent their specific problem. One size doesn't fit all. Think how left out blind quads feel? If we get anyone to listen at all we are doing good. I thank the guy kindly for his effort and wish him more luck if he should try again. I did some work with state and county engineers to establish standardized structural codes and design guidelines for accessible buildings back in the 1970's. Those codes, I'm sure, are outdated by the ADA now. It was nice to get paid to come lookie. They had just spent $35 million to make the campus accessible (in 1989). He asked me to look at what they had done. With me in my electric chair and him in my manual chair, we toured the campus. Some sidewalks had a slant (sideways) of up to 8 degrees which landed him in the grass. There were concrete ramps with no guardrails; doors with no auto-openers and to heavy for a quad to open; switch-back turns in narrow spaces; restrooms too small; etc., etc. He brought the deficiencies to the Board of Directors who consulted a builder. The additional costs would be $25 million because some fixes involved structural changes. If only some of us could consult that way BEFORE buildings and streets are changed... I can't travel on sidewalks here because of missing or bad curb cuts and really bad sidewalks. In a message dated 4/28/2008 12:14:13 P.M. Re: [QUAD-L] RE: Baclofen pump
HI littleQuad, I have the baclofen pump for 5yrs. and it has changed my life. Before I got it I had spasms so bad that they caused AD. I very rarely have spasms now. It also helped the pain I had. I wish you good luck and I hope you have as good results as I did. IT WAS SPINAL FLUID. so i went to the emergency room had my back double stichted and glued then i went home again. more fluid leaked out and i ended up staying in the hospital for 3 days on my back. all of this went on in a 1 1/2 yr. period. oh yea not to mention the other 5 surgeries i had to test the pump to find out why it wasn't working. luke

Ok Eric, Believe me I know first hand that any sore is no laughing matter, but I just keep that picture in my mind. Lol. Can you imagine someone walking in with your butt cheeks taped to the rails (oh my have you had a hair cut what happend to your other eye) Hope this hasn't caused any anger, I just couldn't help myself. But hey if its works I say go for it! Oh my! Lol. Sorry! Silas P.S. Gayle please know no disrespect intended! But if you try this please send pictures! - Original Message - From: Eric Olson To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: quad Sent: Thursday, June 29, 2006 1:38 PM Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] NEW TO LIST, KIND OF. I'm having trouble visualizing where your sore is. Do you have to actually spread your cheeks to see it? If so, it might just need some air. Find a way to keep your cheeks apart while you lie on your side or better yet your stomach. For hemorrhoid surgery, you lie on your stomach and they tape your butt cheeks to the bed rails to hold them apart. Careful with the tape if you try that. Don't want to get sore from the tape. Eric [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello everyone, My name is Gayle, I am a c-5/c-6 quad, 8yrss. post. I have been lurking on the quad-list for several years now. I have only posted maybe two times, so Iam realitivly new to the list. It is hard for me to type, but good excercise for my arms. I am fighting a sore in the crack of my butt. It has been there for 3yrs. now. The wound doctor at Shepherd Center say that it is not from pressure. I think it started when I was pulled across the bed with a draw sheet to turn me on my side. I believe the movement from my bowel program(DIGITAL STEM) causes it to stay open. I and my husband are so frustrated with it. We have tried everything. I don't consider surgery a option, because I do not handle being put to sleep well. Now after reading Stacy's post I am truly scared. I did my rehab at SHEPHED CENTER. It is a geat place. I have a baclophen pump that has made my life so much better. My husband is my caregiver. The company he worked for moved to Germany 2yrs. ago and he stays home with me. I was injured in a car arash, caused by a uninsured drunk driver. On impact my seatbelt broke and my airbag deployed breaking my neck at c2. I was paralyzed by a bleed in my spinal cord. I sued the car company and won a very large amount, which really helps with all the expenses of being a quad. My arm is tired so I must go for now, but I will be back! sincerely, Gayle (48yrs. old)
