[QUAD-L] maybe another spinal surgery
Hey all, I had posted a while back that I have been feeling some grinding in my back and it had been hurting (I had rods put in from T7 down into my pelvis). My neurosurgeon in Baltimore was out of town at the time so I went to my pain specialist here locally that used to practice neurosurgery in Baltimore. I had x rays done and he seemed to think that a rod might have been moving where they had to remove a screw. I went to my neurosurgeon a couple of weeks ago and had another ct scan done. It happens that a screw popped through the vertebrae and is grining against the one above it. He said that its not real important to consider surgery now but if I go through with it, he is going to put more rods in. He's now talking from T4 now so I wont be able to bend my back pretty much at all. It's freaking me out because My level is T7 so I didn't have full sensation therefore pain from my last surgery and now I am having enough problems with my push wheelchair because of not being able to bend my back. I tip backwards going up ramps and curb cuts. I use the sides of my ramp to pull myself and go up curb cuts backwards. I really dont want to go to a power chair, although I know the better part of you use one, but I am freaked out about gaining weight and not being able to do excercises because I can barely keep my balance as is. I know that you all deal with this daily. Any ideas, tips, helplful words? All input is welcome. I am really considering going through with this surgery soon, considering what my second opinion says. The pain is pretty bad and the grinding feeling isn't very pleasant. I am finally healed from my sore, driving and some independence again. I was going to get back on the sub lists for teaching since I'm sooo broke and now I have to deal with these problems again. Anyone else suffering from another obstacle after getting over a previous one? I really feel like I am going backwards. I have been very blessed, dont get me wrong. I once was a quad, but starting to feel like I am going backwards after all I have been through. I am feeling really down here lately and would love some sort of words of encouragement. Sorry for the rambling. I've been holding it in the last few months. I feel like I am a burden when complaining, but I've had enough of this s...t. Stacy Looking for last minute shopping deals?
