That's a coincidence because I was probably bringing in my quantum next week. I'm a student there. Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: how the v8 Xtreme is getting on
yep they do! they are these http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=174793 before I even drove with them I had bought some Halfords Extreme Brilliance bulbs as with the standard ones even in the garage i thought light output was down. there is just one H1 bulb in them and a solenoid shutter that lifts up when going from dipped to main beam (flat beam), so no 5w increase of power for main.. dipped it not bad at all, but main is not the same as I was used to.. but then on the red xtream i had added 2 extra mains so maybe i was a bit spoilt! On 3 May 2013 12:29, Ian Harrison bighatp...@googlemail.com wrote: Looking good Chris! Those headlights are tiny! Do they have main beam in too? Ian On 3 May 2013 09:27, Chris Young chris.young...@gmail.com wrote: oh and of course the oil leaks! turned out to be the breather setup on the head was incorrect.. just going to air -- there needs to be pretty much a vacuum being created in there via a port on the carb.. only a little drip now, rather than the embarrassing puddle I have created in a couple of bays in the work car park! On 2 May 2013 10:15, Chris Young chris.young...@gmail.com wrote: A tale of the v8 if you like... As some of you will have read, I purchased the orange v8 Xtreme in Sept of last year. Since Chris F built it it has had 2 more owners. Somewhere along the line things had gone a tad wrong! As I had the pinto powered Xtreme which I sold just before xmas, I swapped some stuff over and made the v8 orange black, rather than orange chrome, just personal preference, kept my LED rear lights and bits like that. the v8's battery was going flat every night the previous owner had wired up, with very chunky wires a huge battery in the boot.. this battery had been killed, and the cause I found was that the exciter wire for the alternator was not ignition switch controlled! 3amp draw permanently. Sorted that, new normal sized battery back in the engine bay and all good.. so I thought.. then I found the alternator was only putting out any juice after 2500rpm.. turns our one of the diodes had gone.. new alternator and I was happy. I installed an alarm and due to the ignition key switch being so close to the dash, I removed the need for that switch and installed a separate ignition switch and starter switch. (removed the steering lock - I am hoping that with the new MOT regs it isn't going to be a problem!) the way I install the alarm is that when armed the only power that gets through is to the alarm it's self and a separate switch for side lights.. put the new bonnet scoop on, just cause I like the look better and to make it my own and started to use the car. the headlights were terrible.. My parents kindly bought some projector lights for me as a xmas gift and I went about swapping them over - and found that the headlights were being earthed through the blue light on the dash!! doh.. swapped the wiring round and they were actually really good! the projector ones were already purchased so I had to swap them.. on they went and I installed the DRLs under the wheel arches. ignition on full brightness, side lights on and they dimm 50% to be side lights. so I am getting there with it.. the gearbox is a bit too hard work, and sometimes almost impossible and the clutch slips, which for the time being is maybe not a bad thing as it controls the power application! will need to be swapped. I have managed one proper drive in it, and am using it to commute (lucky me only 2miles each way!) and it even had an outing in the snow... Second child due any day, so probably no more proper outings for a while, but I am really enjoying the fresh challenge and loving the v8 - my desire to have one was well founded :) some pics - and lots of the carb as the secondary bowl's needle got jammed and I got stuck out on the way to the tiger owners meet in windlesham with the fuel pumping straight up and out.. i was getting worse than 1mile per litre before it was just flooding over - to the point it was flowing over the hot exhausts too! The joys :) hope you are all getting out in your kits and enjoying this spell of sunshine ! Have a good show too. Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: 2+2 headlamp flaps go mad
Erm, something of a revival (was this really 5 years ago?!) I still havent sorted it, but thinking of starting again on wiring in the thing again. There's that much wiring in the engine bay from a carb'd car, then EFi, then FRST that I think ignoring it might be a good option. Right now, my headlamp flaps are down permanently, everything seems plugged in that should be, but I think the wiper motor itself is now caput. Which brings me onto the point - would anyone be able to tell me / show me the alleged modification to the wiper motor for the 2+2 Thanks Andy On Monday, 15 December 2008 21:43:52 UTC, Matthew Wastell wrote: Have you checked the grease on the little contact wheel inside the mech?
