[Quantum Owners] Re: ST170 in a saloon

2019-10-29 Thread russ price
I did a little more research and found the same sump & pickup is used
across all zetec e engines, the pickup is in the middle, so assuming the 8
degree slope is right and the sump is 200mm wide then bringing the engine
level would put the pickup pipe 14mm deeper into the oil (if my maths are
correct; they should be i used an online calculator!).
So the end result is whatever else is wrong with the engine it's not the
oil pickup. It also means (if the 8 degrees is right) the dipstick needs
recalibrating or the dipstick tube needs changing.
Does that all make sense or have i slipped up somewhre?

Jim. The angle isn't a lot, i'm fairly sure i've heard  a figure of 8 degrees
forward mentioned, i think it was just to allow the bonnet to make a more
pleasing shape. I can't find any confirmation online so it's entirely possible
i've got it all wrong. I'm in west wales by the way.

Martin Fairly sure it's a genuine loss of pressure, the oil warning light comes
on and a few seconds later the engine starts to make a clattery noise.I knew it
had this problem and had been driven, with warning light on and making a noise,
for a few miles when i bought it.

look to see what was the cause of the low pressure but one thought I've had
(which may well be complete rubbish) is :- could the problem be with the
sump/oil pickup as the engine is now upright but would have slanted slightly
when in the Focus, is the change of angle sufficient to cause a problem? Anyone
done a similar conversion?
