Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: H4i nearside rear bulb holder

2017-09-17 Thread Susan and Martin Scott
Glyn,
When you say "it clicks quite quickly" are you referring to the starter motor?
Does the immobiliser usually light before the ignition key is turned? It could
be flashing because the starter motor is taking a huge current, so little is
left for the immobiliser circuit. Without knowledge of how the immobiliser is
wired it could be pure guesswork. If it's a standard Fiesta mk3 immobiliser (if
there is such a thing), someone else here may have the answer.
A few words of caution WD40 is HIGHLY INFLAMMABLE, so take care if using it
near electricals. Many years ago when I and a few other motorists were caught
in a flash flood and ended up in a car park, a helpful bystander decided it was
ok to spray WD40 nead my coil, and I could have had a major fire if I hadn't
managed to beat the flame out!

  Hello Everyone

Thank you for your replies. Particularly for the steer about what it was from
and where one could be obtained, I was able to track one down quite easily
after that.
Thanks also for the offer bilje55 but I had already ordered one by the time
you posted otherwise I would have taken you up your kind offer. Do you have any
electric window switches by the way? you did say that you had some H4 parts
going as you did not have an H4 anymore?
I have done a little wriggling (with the plug that is) and stuck some gaffer
tape over it to keep it still and so far all is well.
That being almost sorted, the new one is due to arrive on Wednesday. Did
anyone following this exchange of messages have any ideas about the occasional
starting fault (see the first email)? Please let me know if you do.
I will now try to find the bloody WD 40, a suitable job for Sunday afternoon.

there was a very bad earth connection. It was an advisory note. I should like
to replace it for reliability reasons.
Where does it come from? Is it a Ford part that came from the donor car?
Has anyone had to obtain one and if so where did they get it from? Has anyone
got one that I could buy from them?
There is also an occasional fault now when starting the car. When turning
the ignition key to start the engine it does not catch and it clicks quite
quickly while the immobiliser light flashes in unison. So far it has started in
the end but is it related or is there some difficulty with the ignition or the
immobiliser?
If anyone has any answers or comments would you please let me know, I have
in the past had some excellent helpful advice from here.

[Quantum Owners] Re: H4i nearside rear bulb holder

2017-09-17 Thread 'Jim Turner' via Quantum Owners Group
Hi Glyn
I had the same problem with my H4. turned out to be tarnish on the multi
plug contacts. I cleared it by spraying WD40 on the contacts & leaving it a
few minutes to work.
If you waggle ( a technical term!) the plug you should either cure or
reproduce the fault,
