Did you follow https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/secondary-storage/ to set up
a secondary pool, or did you add your hard drive to the primary Qubes
pool/disk group? If you added the hard drive to existing, I think LVM
defaults to settings them both up as RAID0 (paging @tasket!). If that's
the case, you should probably do a wipe and reinstall.

[qubes-users] How to tell what AppVMs are on the ssd part of my LVM and which are on the regular drive?

2019-09-21 Thread Stumpy
I did a fresh install on my computer and (am pretty sure) I setup an LVM
(I know I am not using the right termin, sorry) across the SSD drive and
the regular drive. The problem is, my computer is now much slower than
it was when I was running everything off the SSD, which I am pretty sure
is due to the AppVMs and/or templates being on the regular drive (my CPU
and MEM appear to be fine when i try to start up an appvm, yet, it takes
30sec to 1.5 mins to start a appvm up? That cant be right?
I am not sure how to "place" some of my smaller appvms and templates on
the SSD part and the too-big ones on the regular drive part.

Re: [qubes-users] Re: Unsure about network device attachment to VMs

2019-09-21 Thread Anil Eklavya

> Dropping Qubes mailing list since it's not a Qubes issue any more.
> Recommend calling Dell again and telling them the above paragraph.
> Sounds like a hardware problem with the laptop to me. Get them to
> replace it.

I understand it no longer seems to be directly a Qubes issue, but I am updating
because it may indirectly be of interest to Qubes users and developers.

I will be contacting Dell on Monday. They are unlikely to replace it, but if
they think it’s a hardware issue, they may repair it.

Right after my last post, during the last attempt, there was a notification
from Quick Heal about a suspicious file.

I tried today when I booted up the laptop again, it worked without any problem
for several hours. I updated all the drivers and checked that the Windows
updates were up to date. Everything went well. Finally when I started to
proceed with changing login options, it froze again. And then it started
freezing repeatedly.

The part which may be relevant to the Qubes community is about the fact that
today it started freezing when I restarted the NordVPN app, which I had to
disable earlier, because the network just won’t work properly.

Earlier also I think the problems started after I logged in to NordVPN. But
again, it may be a problem specific to NordVPN. About two years ago, I had
subscribed to IPVanish and I had to give up using it with a few weeks as it
just won’t get connected to the Internet. Years earlier, when the Tor Project
was relatively new and I tried to use it, it also just won’t connect to the
Internet. However, later on it started working. Still, my problems on laptops
might have something to do with the use of Tor or VPNs. In the university where
I work, the users who use a VPN have their internet access disabled.

Since Qubes and Tor are about privacy and that is what I have been arguing for
for years openly, even in official settings, I think the problems might have
something to do with trying to maintain privacy online. Besides laptop, there
are other reasons why I think this may be one of the causes.

I mention it here so that Qubes users and developers may be aware of this
possibility, in case they are not (I think many already are).

Don't think there's any way to do that, but you could qvm-copy data from
Disp to a new AppVM.

[qubes-users] Making a DispVM permanent

2019-09-21 Thread tetrahedra via qubes-users

I start working on a project with some untrusted data in a DispVM.

Then I decide the project is bigger or going to take longer than anticipated
and I need to keep the DispVM around, so I don't lose my work prematurely.

Is there a way to turn currently-running DispVM instance into a regular
permanent AppVM, which I can delete later?

[qubes-users] Wireguard on debian-10-minimal template

2019-09-21 Thread xuv3

Hi all,

I've been attempting to setup a wireguard based vpn based on
https://github.com/tasket/Qubes-vpn-support/wiki/Wireguard-VPN-connections-in-Qubes-OS,
but with a cloned template based on debian-10-minimal instead. I've been
able to accomplish this with the debian-10 template, but ran into some
percularities with debian-10-minimal.

Namely, after following step 1, my cloned template (based off
debian-10-minimal) fails to start, with the error "Cannot connect to
qrexec agent for 60 seconds, see /var/log/xen/console/guest-$VMNAME.log
for details". The file /var/log/xen/console/guest-$VMNAME is empty.

Has anyone encountered the same issue and identified a fix? Did I miss
out on installing certain crucial packages on my debian-10-minimal
cloned template? FWIW, the same behavior is observed, when performed on
the stock debian-10-minimal template.
