At the moment I can not recommend a Macbook (modern model) for QubesOS in
any way.

No, I could try that I suppose, when I am getting some kind of network running.

I have a booted system now, but without working keyboard, trackpad (using
external keyboard+mouse), wifi (crashing when attaching to sys-net). Perhaps
Apple is doing some nasty things to lock up their Macbook.

Yes. Actualy I just hope to get compiz working as I am dependant onb a good
working screen zoom as on OSX. Then I am sure to use it as a daily driver, when
getting some Lenovo gear.

I don't know, if Qubes is possible on a modern Macbook. I have tried several
ways to attach the Broadcom wifi to sys-net, but either it is not shown in the
machine or the system freezes.

And this struggles before trying to get the keyboard and touchpad running
(still using USB keyboard and mouse.

Apple seems to do a great work in locking their system up.

Perhaps I can get a new laptop for my work in some months or so.

That was a very good idea. After editing the xml file I got to the stage 2 and
I think Qubes had to do some last steps. Then Qubes OS booted. When I have the
time, I can now look into enabling network etc.

When I am done, I try to make a short section for the macbook troubleshooting
information.

Could you please show me the relevant part? I do not find this. I am beginning
to suspect, that this VM was not created, but then there has to be some other
reason of the crash.

I have managed to install QubesOS with crashing on creating the net-vm. I have
managed to get to the rescue system (boot from stick and starting anaconda
--recue manual), but I was unable to disable the netvm from starting.

At the moment the systems boots up and presents me a black screen with
mouse-cursor and restarts a short while after that.

OK, I have managed to get to the rescue system, but there seems not to be a
qubes-netvm to disable or the disabling of machines has changed.

The system boots up, shows a black screen with mouse cursor and is rebooting a
short while after.

I was able to start the rescue system with this:

But there is a tmux session with some panes. How to use the rescue system? How

Hi!

The installation or of USB stick is working out of the box with the option key

The parameters for xen will work with a bootloader in my case refind.

But as I said, I am stuck with a non working system, presumably because of the
net-vm.

[qubes-users] Re: Install on an up to date Macbook

2019-06-29 Thread Matthias Brumm
Hi!

part 1 of the installation is working without issues. The boot up of part 2 is
only working with refind and pushing options /mapbs and /noexitboot through to
XEN. But part 2 is crashing and rebooting creating the net-vm. I could finish
part 2 with telling it to not create any VMs and was able to get the dom0 but i
did not have any templates there.

Any information about disabling qubes-netvm are not aplicable to me and do not
work.

If you are going to buy a new laptop for the purpose of running QubesOS or
Linux I would strongly refrain from buying a Macbook due to the struggles. My
Macbook is rather new so I will not be able to get a new one at my work
notebook for the next few years. And even so, I just wanted to try if that OS
could be my daily driver. At the moment I do not see how I can manage this
apart from lending me a system.
