You need to install the gvfs package in the template you are using for your
AppVM.

It's not a standard package installed by default because it relies on many
other packages. Do a search in your flavor repository (fedora, debian, etc) for
the package and install it in your template, and then restart your AppVM.

https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/gvfs

But this is not an AppVM or a template, I think. I am seeing this message from
Dom0 environment.

Troubleshooting Steps:
a) Boot Qubes 4 and enter password to start login session
b) Open Qubes menu in top panel
c) Open System Tools, File Manager Settings
d) Open Advanced tab

The window title is "[Dom0] File Manager Preferences".

Here is the message under a title "Missing dependencies" and inside a blue box:

It looks like gvfs is not available.
Important features ... will not work.

It seems like this must be a problem I must fix.

No. It is recommended to avoid using the GUI file manager in dom0.

Should the default install omit the GUI file manager in dom0? Having it
and telling people not to use it is rather strange.

Yes: https://github.com/QubesOS/qubes-issues/issues/2458

OK, so I will ignore this error.

There is a lot to delearn with a move to Qubes (:

ales...@magenta.de:

I am using a fresh installation of Qubes 4.1.1.

When I use the File Manager Preferences tab there is a message
indicating that GVFS is not available. "Important features including
trash support, removable media and remote location browsing will not work".

I also notice that I cannot use removable storage with any of my VMs, if
I attach a storage device to a VM the OS indicates success but the
device is not available anywhere.

I think part of the problem is probably that I do not have a sys-usb.

Can someone help me correct these problems?

Is there no solution to this? I don't want to reinstall the OS because
it takes some hours to complete and maybe it will make no difference.

Here is more information.

In installation process I made the following selections:

- Templates: Fedora, Debian, Whonix
- Default system qubes YES
- sys-firewall, sys-net and sys-usb disposable YES
- Default application qubes YES
- Qube to hold all USB controllers YES
- sys-net qube for both networking and USB devices YES (I am using a USB
ethernet adapter)

- Whonix Gateway and Workstation qubes YES
