Re: QWS List AW: AW: AW: New keyboard time

For me, if the Yamaha PSR-A5000 has voice guide will purchase it. Saying
that Yamaha Genos/PSR-SX/A series aren't accessible is just an excuse
for not bying it.

This is just my opinion, but I would rather learn all the button press
sequences I need to than be completely shut out of a touchscreen
because Yamaha just didn't bother updating the voice guide to support
that function.

I got a Roland Juno-DS61 a few days ago. It's a lot less expensive and
fancy than some of the keyboards I hear about here, but it still has a
pretty wide range of sounds and expansions available. I haven't
started really deep diving into the menus; I got it less than a week
ago and work is busy, but I know it will work with QWS and I'm
certainly excited to play around with it beyond just exploring the
sounds. I also have Komplete and that whole big setup, but it's
sometimes nice to have a keyboard you can just pull out and compose
on. I found I was doing way too little music production because the
process got too complex. When I knew all my buttons, menus, program
numbers and bank numbers by heart, I got stuff done really quickly.
I'm hoping to go back to basics and start doing that again. Basically,
my advice is don't get rid of the things that "just work".

Thanks. That’s good to know.

Do you use it with QWS at all?  If so, how well does that work?  If I
get it someday, my primary use for it would be with QWS and Logic Pro.

God bless!

Re: QWS List New keyboard time

I guess I'm on the same side, however much different: The next keyboard
shall be a Yamaha PSR-A5000. The previous yamaha keyboards that I have
(PSR-S710 and PSR-A2000) has 10? and 5 years respectively when I was
using them. I know it wouldn't like it since it has touchscreen, however
an accessibility attempt is on the way. I'm shure the related models
(PSR-SX900/700) have that feature, however the price kinda a little
expensive? I need to check.

Not strictly QWS related but I hope admin won’t mind. I think it is time for a
new keyboard. I have a Yamaha DGX-205 and a Roland EXR-5S, both of which are
about 20 years old. I will be passing both on to local youngsters in the hope
of sowing the seeds of a profession in music or an interesting hobby. So I’m
after some advice as to what keyboards are out there which are either
accessible to someone with no sight or not too complicated or expensive for a
mere hobbiest. Thanks.

I hope you recover the source soon.

I know this may be because of my long history with MIDI, but I don't
know that  a 2.0 version of the specification will saturate much into
the industry. MIDI as it exists right now has a couple of major
advantages. First off, it's documented very well in its various
flavors. Second, everything, and by everything I mean every single
element of the specification, is optional. That's a lot of flexibility
there.

Also remember that the MMA can do anything they want to in updating or
rolling out new versions of the MIDI specification, but someone has to
implement it, and that means both sides -- James would have to make
QWS MIDI 2.x compatible, and there'd have to be hardware that used it
too. Given the current retro craze I'm finding it a bit hard to expect
both of those things to come together at once.

I seriously doubt James is done with QWS, but he has said a couple of
times here he's working on other stuff and will get back to QWS soon
enough.

Hi Carlos, my tocallo,

I was eaven thinking the same thing about a tentative QWS 2.0, since I
was recently exploring about the new MIDI 2.0. Could this possibility
will become reality? And also don't want to come to the extreme, but
will be a GUI rewrite, so instead of using lng files to translate qws
in this case, can we use PO nd MO files?

Were can I find qwsm? I'm thinking if it's in development.

Nicole Massey wrote:

It's not abandoned, so it can't be deemed abandonware. James has been working

So I wouldn't hold your breath at it going abandoned anytime soon.
You mentioned Reaper. QWS can work as the MIDI editor in Reaper, so that may
help in providing things like VST support and audio recording.
Personally, I'd prefer the development of QWSM (Quick Windows Stage Manager) so
I could manage my live MIDI rig. I've got a full set of features and
specifications I'd like for a program like this.

Hello All:

When will QWS be declared as Abandoned-ware? So, that some interested
developers can take over the project and bring it up-to-date. I know all about
REAPER. However! It's too big and complicated and for personal/hobbyist use
QWS is better suited for personal use.

Hope some developer will find QWS project worthy of his/her time!

QWS is a very good software project for those of us who are blind and
like making music for personal enjoyment!

Thank You! For reading and responding to this message!

I'm using QWS always, however I'm slowely transitioning to Reaper, both
as audio and midi editing.
