A short update that may be of help: The snippet of code does not crash R if i run under vanilla, nor if I change R to MDI-mode. It does crash R infallibly if I set it to SDI-mode in the Rprofile file. To the R colleagues, I do not have any problems when running this code, everything works well: tiff() plot(1:1000) dev.off() I am using R 2.7.1 and Windows XP Professional (service pack 2).
