Re: [Radiant] Radiant installation didn't go so well

2007-06-30 Thread Joe Lapp
I just noticed that the error messages are given as H1 headers.

On the About page and each blog post, I get:
" NameError in Admin/page#edit"

When updating extensions I get:
" NoMethodError in Admin/extensionController#update"

[Radiant] Radiant installation didn't go so well

2007-06-30 Thread Joe Lapp
Hello, Ruby newbie here, with a small Radiant installation mess.

I installed Ruby 1.8.5 and Rails on Apache2/Debian(etch) with
mod_fcgid, according to these instructions:
http://www.howtoforge.com/ruby_on_rails_debian_etch

I have also installed Radiant 0.6.2 according to this page:
http://wiki.radiantcms.org/Installation

I had to bootstrap both production and development databases to get
past errors (mysql).

Current problems:

  * My home page shows the About sidebar in raw Textile markup.
  * Using the admin pages, the PAGES, SNIPPETS, and LAYOUTS tabs do
not appear at the top.
  * Using the admin pages, when ever I try to access the About page or
a sample blog post, I get this error: "dependencies.rb:266:in
`load_missing_constant': uninitialized constant TextileFilter".
  * No extensions are listed, not even Textile or Markdown.
  * If I try to update the extensions, I get that an unexpected nil
object "whiel evaluating nil.initialize_default_admin_tabs".
  * The vendor/extensions and vendor/plugins directories are empty.

BTW, when I did the Radiant installation and was asked to select a
"site template," I had no clue what 'simple' and 'styled' meant and
couldn't google down their meanings either. I chose 'styled'.

Any idea what's going on? Thanks!

[Radiant] Radiant and Dutchify - Date problems

2007-06-30 Thread Erik van Oosten
Hi,

I just installed Dutchify (http://blog.remvee.net/category/dutchify) with
ruby /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/radiant-0.6.2/script/plugin
install http://svn.remvee.net/plugins/dutchify
for my new sun's new website http://milo-nu.zapto.org/. It took less
then an hour, including adding some content!

Unfortunately not all tags use the Rails helpers to display dates. That
is why you still see some English dates here and there.

If my sun gets a little bigger I'll try to write some patches. For now,
please be aware that some plugins change Rails' behavior, and it is
probably better to use these Rails helpers when available, to leverage
these plugins.

Thanks for a great product,
regards,
 Erik.

Re: [Radiant] Virtual Machine for Radiant

2007-06-30 Thread Victor Cosby
Keith,

Deprec saved me a lot of time setting up my Rails stack on Ubuntu. It
defaults to Apache for proxying to mongrels but then I setup Nginx
separately (I've heard there's an nginx recipe is in the works).

I've been happy with nginx for it's lighter memory footprint and easier
configuration. English documentation is sparse but getting better. I'm
currently hosting one low traffic Radiant site -- 2 mongrels about 40mb
each, using ImageMagick, ImageScience, and a slightly modified version of
_your_ assets manager extension (thanks!) ;-) -- plus one other higher
traffic Rails site.

Here are some articles I found helpful.

http://del.icio.us/vcosby/nginx
http://del.icio.us/vcosby/deprec
http://wiki.slicehost.com/

The Slicehost wiki has good info on VPS setup and there's a free Peepcode
screencast on using deprec in there somewhere.

There's also a new gem for generating nginx config files but I haven't tried
it yet.

Cheers and good luck,
Victor
