Angus Not true. Do a Google search for sks P50 - you'll find plenty of places that sell them. Here's one: http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/FE409A03-Sks+P50+Fenders.aspx I ran sks P50 fenders on my Atlantis with 37mm Paselas - really a nice set up for touring. [RBW] Re: Patagonia Dumps Sigg Over BPA Issue
On Sep 12, 2009, at 10:18 AM, R Gonet wrote: It was earlier reported on the RBW website that Sigg was exchanging its pre-August-2008 metal water bottles for new ones because the older ones were lined with an epoxy that contained BPA. As you may recall, Grant was very apologetic for having sold them and now has published the Sigg CEO's mea culpa in the Rivendell News section of the site. Sigg's excuse is that while the bottles did contain BPA, they only leached an insignificant amount, so apparently it was not worth mentioning. The research they had done indicated *no* leaching of BPA, not an insignificant amount which implies tat some BPA was leached. Let's keep the facts correct. If the liner is adequately polymerized, such things are sequestered in the lining. What is important is what is in the water, not what is in the lining of the bottle. There are probably more contaminants in the water coming out of your tap than could be added by storage in a Sigg bottle. (For example, traces of something like 17 pharmaceuticals can be isolated from our local tap water, which is the result of medicines being flushed into the sewer system to dispose of them. We have, in some areas of the metro, traces of industrial contaminants in the water that have been leaching from land fills. Etc.). Patagonia did more due diligence than RBW before it carried the bottles and was assured by Sigg that the bottles contained no BPA. As a result, Patagonia is terminating its relationship with Sigg and returning all of its stock to them. There is a very interesting post on the Patagonia blog with a lot of comments commending Patagonia for taking its stand. http://www.thecleanestline.com/2009/09/patagonia-terminates- relationship-with-sigg-water-bottles.html. I am not criticizing RBW because they were misled by Sigg. I do find fault with Sigg for misleading the public on this issue and because they have betrayed my trust I will not purchase their products in the future. That, of course, is your choice. The Sigg bottles in our house are probably not going to be returned (some have the new liner, some have the old liner, some predate the old liner). I don't care if there is BPA in the liner if it does not leach into the contents of the bottle. As usual, Grant and Rivendell chose to do the right thing when the information became available to them. One of the reasons I do business with them. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. I ride my 1996 All-Rounder, Bill rode his Redwood (there's the Riv content) and his friends rode a Surly LHT, a Trek 560 and a Raleigh steel lugged single speed. From my house it was a 70 mile round trip. We spent about 4 1/2 hours riding and 3 1/2 hours eating lunch and waiting to get everybody gathered together after hills and such. The day was glorious weather-wise, one of those warm early- autumn days when summer has not yet surrendered. Lunch featured good sandwiches at the Boxcar Cafe in Prescott, washed down with a selection of local brews (New Glarus Spotted Cow and Fat Squirrel and Rush River Unforgiven Amber being evaluated along with some others). [RBW] WTB older frame 60cm-ish for commuter project
I am looking to set up a new commuter bike for this up coming school year, my only requirements are that it can fit a larger tire and fenders, but rack mounts would be a plus. I really dont care what it looks like , the uglier the better! I am thinking of something made with decent tubing (531) like an old Trek, Miyata, Raleigh or similar. I normally ride any where from a 58cm to 60cm top tube. I checked around locally and there does not seem to be much so let me know what you have laying around collecting dust. I dont have much money to spend on this project, I am hoping to spend less that $200 but closer to $100, I also have some parts to trade if anyone is interested. I might be able to spend a little more if there is something special, but I dont know if that is what this project call for --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] I'm looking for minnehaha or berthoud panniers
Before I buy some new, I wanted to make sure that there weren't any rob's that were trying to get rid of a set. I don't have low rider mounts so I can't get the largest size Berthouds. Thanks guys. I don't know if home brewing is Riv content per se- it seems to be in keeping with the general philosophy, anyway- but we had a lively discussion courtesy of the home brewers in the bunch. Anyway, it's tough to beat an all-day ride with a bunch of like- minded folks! Yep, that was a really fun ride, and a great official end to summer (with my kids starting school the next day). Best 65-mile ride for lunch i've ever done. And thanks to Tim for some great alternate route ideas along the way, it's fun to learn new routes on otherwise familiar rides. -- Bill Connell St. Paul, MN --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ Sounds just perfect! [RBW] New favorite tire
I bought a set of Grand Bois Cypres maybe a couple months ago, and recently got around to mounting and riding them. Really like them so far, although I'm nervous about the reliability. I was thinking about riding them on last weeks SoCal ride, but decided to stay w/ the Paselas until I had some more experience with these. Super-blog special review here: http://cyclotourist.blogspot.com/2009/09/grand-bois-cypres-initial-impressions.html I really like the extra little bit of width compared to Ruffy Tuffies, and don't think I could fit in Jack Browns. I could get some Paselas at 50% the cost, but wanted to give these a try. Only real question is reliability, and hopefully that will work out fine! -- Cheers, David Redlands, CA Bicycling is a big part of the future. It has to be.
