[RBW] Re: Pickups for SF Folks?
Surely there are shops much closer to home for small parts? Sorry if that's a glib answer, but I often talk to local-to-me folks who order odds and ends online when I have the same items on-hand at a competitive price within easy bike-range. They are often surprised to learn that whatever items they want are available locally. On Jan 5, 7:12 pm, William Henderson william.c.hender...@gmail.com wrote: I like to go to Riv now and then, but it's an expensive BART ticket from SF and quite a bit of time if I'm just getting an odd part or two. Propposed solution: I order my parts, they wait at Riv for a couple days, and then on the weekend we take turns doing a mass pick up for SF folks. Informally, one pickup gets you one free shipment. It would shift to the big ring, but it wouldn't move far enough out to properly center over the big ring, and the chain would rub when I was on the smaller 4 sprockets. Re: [RBW] Re: Pickups for SF Folks?
Very true, Jim. I support RBW to the extent that it's practical, but I agree with you about the small items available at local shops. It's true, however, that RBW does carry a bunch of fairly unique stuff, and that requires a trip over to Walnut Creek (more so to see the bikes!). Locally, I inquire at Box Dog Bikes, Bike Nook, Fresh Air, Valencia, Roaring Mouse, American, Sports Basement. I make about three trips a year over to RBW. William's idea is a good one, but I don't go/order that often. Hi Patrick, If the twinging in the knees is not sharp pain (dull pain, aching is okay) then I would consider it not great for your knees. However, that is not from seated high torque pedaling per se. I'd bet the seated high torque pedaling is revealing a weakness/dysfunction elsewhere in the kinetic chain--weakness or excessive tightness (or a combination of the two) at the hips for instance--which yields poor biomechanics at the knee joint. Watch for any lateral/medial deviation of the knee during the pedal stroke; if present, you've likely got weakness in the hips, laterally. If the knee twinging does not begin until 18-36 hours after and resolves reasonably quickly/easily then I wouldn't really worry much about it... that's more indicative of soft-tissue stress. Hi Patrick, I could never tell what which was worse: going down College Street in Burlington on a fixed gear in the snow ice or going back up it! Enjoy! Chondromalacia is a specific pathology in which the articular surface of the knee cap softens. This problem typically responds well to activities which compress the cartilage (gentle compression and release of articular cartilage appears to be the way in which these tissues acquire nutrients as they have no significant intrinsic blood source). If you're mashing along, not experiencing lateral/medial deviation of the knee (knees diving toward or away from the top- tube), and not experiencing pain... well, no good reason to stop. I've no idea, really what constitutes low cadence... 80 rpm seems fine under most circumstances for me... 12 rpm seem kinda slow unless it's really steep... lyle On Jan 6, 7:05 am, Patrick in VT psh...@drm.com wrote: On Jan 6, 8:57 am, LyleBogart{AT}gmail.com lylebog...@gmail.com wrote: I'd bet the seated high torque pedaling is revealing a weakness/dysfunction elsewhere in the kinetic chain--weakness or excessive tightness (or a combination of the two) at the hips for instance--which yields poor biomechanics at the knee joint. thanks for detailed replies, Lyle. so, if I understand it correctly, as long as there are no weak links in the kinetic chain, it's all good. and conditions like chondromalacia, etc., which are commonly associated with pushing to big a gear, are better explained and treated by dealing with the weak links than by focusing on the knee joint as separate from the kinetic chain. in other words, if one has a clean, well lubed kinetic chain and is not experiencing pain, then low cadence cycling, fixed gear or otherwise, is not cause for concern regarding the long term health of one's joints. Re: [RBW] For the well dressed Roadeo ...
I have one on my big dummy which has on one mary bars with very little flat area for battery lights. It works well, it is not high enough compared to a handlebar mount to make any difference. It does sit back from the bars quite a ways and does lead to a little more light spillage when out of the saddle, but it is not too bad. The Gino mounts are really nice, I got some at the same time I ordered this, but I don't like putting battery led lights down low. Also, hurrah for Riv for having threadless fork options. [RBW] FS: 700C Free Radical, rear Avid mechanical disc
Howdy folks. I need to sell my 700C Free Radical to finance some parts to build up my Big Dummy. It is in good used condition with some scratches and signs of wear but nothing unattractive and no rust, dents or cracks. This is just the FR frame, nothing attached to it. It is boxed up and ready to go, $150 plus actual shipping which should be less than $25 to any place in the lower 48 states by USPS Parcel Post (which is probably just as quick as FedEx or UPS ground). I also have a complete Avid cable disc setup for it or any other FR, BBDB (just like BB7) caliper, 203mm Roundagon disc and 160mm adapter bracket. It is all used but good, plenty of brake pad and no wear of consequence on the rotor, $40 plus actual shipping. Both for $175 plus shipping, should still be $25 or less. Thanks, Doug P.S. Probably in the duh category but the canti/v-brake posts are the only thing that makes this 700C. With a disc in back it can be 26/559, 650B or 700C (tire size is limited to ~35mm actual width)... -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. I have an eDeluxe suspended under the front rack on one bike, a Supernova that is mounted on a custom set up mid fork, and an Ixon Speed that I mount from the handlebar. I use the Speed on my camper. There is no good place to put the bike down low as that is where the Panniers go. Moreover, when I take the camper off road or on rough roads, I want the light up high. A broken light does not do a whole lot of good, does it? The light on the handlebar is no higher than a motorcycle. YMMV ... [RBW] Rivendell sighted this morning...
During my morning commute this morning I saw another rider on a bike I'm sure was a Rivendell, although I couldn't quite make out whether it was a Ram or some other model. It was light blue/gray with black plastic fenders. This took place at the stoplight on Lawrence and Walsh. Was it someone on this list? You were turning left and I was going straight so I couldn't get close to say hi or comment on the bike... I was on my Bombadil wearing a red jersey and yellow vest. It's the second time I see another Rivendell on my commute, the first one was a Hillborne on the Santa Clara train station and after seeing it up close, I took my first drive to Walnut Creek and returned with my AHH.
