Re: [RBW] Any on this list doing RAGBRAI this year? Or TOMRV?

2011-06-11 Thread Robert Harrison
I'll be at RAGBRAI but not on my Quickbeam. It's too expensive too ship bikes
to and from Hawaii so I'll be on my BikeFriday (which has actually been to Riv
in Walnut Creek) as it's just another piece of luggage. I don't know if I'd
want to do all those hills on without easy gear changing though I'm told people
do, and if the truth be known, I put in about a thousand miles on my QB this
Spring including hills (the BF was getting repaired).

[RBW] F/S 58 cm Rambouillet

2011-06-11 Thread 2wheeljonz
I've been lurking quite a while but making my first post. The lurking
led me to get my Rambouillet. However I need to sell it.
There are two reasons for selling: 1) It doesn't fit (it's too
small. I should have gone with with a 60 cm.) 2) The old joke of my
wife saying Do whatever the you want. not really meaning what
it says.

The specifics are as follows:
-58 cm
-Shimano 600 headset
-Nitto Technomic stem
-Nitto 65 seatpost
-Shimano 105 front deraileur
-Shimano Ultegra rear deraileur
Sugino crank (triple)
-Nitto Noodle handlebars
-Araya RC 540 rims front and rear
-Ruffy Tuffy tires with ~50% tread left
It does not come with seat or pedals
Some scrapes on right side as shown in pics (not road rash) but no
dents in tubing.
Price: $1450 including shipping to the lower 48.
Located in the Phoenix area of Arizona
(I just realized that I haven't figured out how to add pics from
flickr or a link to them. I'll figure it out and add the link,
hopefully)

It's a good design for slobs (as I am, as I noted when they were first

pockety folding thing that makes a good travel wallet, too--for pports

 Hello All-

Please pardon the blatant commercial post, but this is a direct descendant

small run that I'm offering here first.

I was a huge fan of the waxed cotton ACME wallet that Rivendell used to
sell.  When mine finally wore out, I decided to make my own.  I modified the
design from a tri-fold to a more user friendly bi-fold.  The hardest part
was finding an appropriate fabric.  Filson tin cloth (of the original) is
impossible to get and bulk waxed cotton is prohibitively expensive and has
huge minimum orders.  The best alternative I've found is nice stout
waterproof marine canvas.  It's used for boat seats and awnings and such.
It's the same stuff Rivendell sells as the burrito wrap.

These are really simple, practical wallets that embody wabi sabi, take on a
wonderful beausage and become old friends.  I can put a snap it to keep it
closed for those who would keep it in a bag rather than in a pocket.

[RBW] Carbon-ectomy using a Carbonomas fork

2011-06-11 Thread Doug Comcast

Hi-

A couple of weeks ago, someone on the list asked about experiences with
the Riv Carbonomas fork. About a week ago, I had my LBS (Vecchios in
Boulder, CO) replace a carbon fork with the Carbonomas on my titanium
road bike.

I've never replaced a fork on one of my bikes before and I was
interested in any differences that I might notice in the bike's
handling. Bottom line, the bike's handling was essentially the same. I
didn't notice any differences. I'm using a slightly larger tire (26 mm
now instead of 23 mm before) as Grant suggested in the Carbonomas
description. I'm very pleased!

Thanks to Riv for making the Carbonomas available!

I took a couple of crummy photos of my Ti bike with the new fork:

Hope these help.

I'm the one who asked. Thank you for posting a followup to that thread. I

Do you know if the fork specs were roughly similar to the fork you replaced?
And what 26mm tire are you using?
