Great great feedback everybody . thanks a ton for all the replies. Yes I'm at a point where I don't want to travel again without my bike. Last year I was without it for a month ... there were pros and cons to that ... but I don't want to do that again! For now my travel is in the US. I've looked at airline fees and they vary widely. I've also seen recommendations for a place called Shipbikes.com , which uses Fed Ex ground. I use FE alot these days. Minimal disassembly would be a huge plus, like with an AirCaddy box or Amtrak ! Re: [RBW] Fitting on the Sam Hillborne
I have a PBH of 84.5 and the 56cm Hillborne fits me perfect. MAYBE the top tup is a little long and I should've purchased a shorter stem. (currently use a 9cm stem with 46cm noodles). I had been riding it with 37mm Panaracer Pasela's but a few months ago switch to Schwalbe Dureme 50's to see if they would fit. Naturally, I had to lose the fenders, but indeed they do fit. The huge tires brought the top tube up very very close, but I can still straddle the bike with just a bit of room. And, I wear very low shoes like, vans or cons. So... with a PBH of 84 you should totally fine as long as you don't go bigger than 40mm tires. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. I have a PBH of 84.5 (5' 10 165) and a 56 Sam. My Sam is a great bike. I rode the 52 and it felt a little small. I am mostly riding on road although I have had the Sam on a few fire trails and it is great. There was some debate at Riv HQ about sizing as 84 -85 is the tipping point between the two sizes. If you are set on 700 tires then you want the 56. If you want 650B and more standover then 52. In my case bigger felt better. Per this pdf, the Hoss was about 26 liters http://www.cyclofiend.com/Images/pdf/rbw_bag_capacities0507.pdf I have one, and agree with Tim it's almost twice the size of a Nelson Longflap. (Yes, I have too many bags). As a test, was able to fit a Eureka Spitfire 2 tent (recommended by Grant), Wiggy's sleeping bag and a Big Agnes inflatable pad in easily, with room to stuff in some clothes. Chiming in with yet another confirming source: the Wayback Machine. Per www.rivbike.com circa 2005... THE INEVITABLE SIZE COMPARISON: Keep in mind that these bags all have extra long flaps so they actually hold more than the stated size. LITTLE JOE: 400 c.i. or 6,490 cc. It's hard to describe the shape of the Little Joe...it's not really a paisley like the Banana Bag but it isn't a rectangle either. It's more like a trapezoid with rounded corners. It's about 11 wide at the mouth and about 8 deep. The sides are about 6 long and they taper from the 8 at the mouth to about 4 at the tail end. ADAM: 780 c.i. or 12,780 cc. The Adam is about 6 tall by 13 wide by 9 long. HOSS: 1010 c.i. or 16,520 cc. The Hoss is about 7 tall by 14 wide by 11 long. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
