[RBW] Why I Aspire

2011-11-13 Thread Bob
Someday I will own one of the lovely-lugged bicycles that are the
subject of this group. As I've mentioned, the thing that keeps me
aspiring is the thought of doing this to such a nice bike:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170728473966#ht_25340wt_1256

This is what my bicycles look like after moderate use.

Cheers,
Bob

[RBW] Re: Price reduced: FS: Size Medium Fargo, $1,250 plus shipping

2011-11-13 Thread Bob
I have seen a few 2CVs in the States in my lifetime, but none of the
outstanding, inexpensive, creative modern vehicles that are everywhere
here (northern England). Citroën really is the Apple of the automobile
world, and it's a pity the States are largely denied.

Great pics. I was roaming around Discovery Park today, came across
the Locks (have you seen the empty lock...very cool), and looked long
and hard at the New Red Mill...but not to be...had to pick up a
sandwich for home:(

I imagine they still have them. I got a set a few months back, and they
had both kinds at the time. By both I mean over a powdercoat and under a

Hi,
Does anyone know where the resurrectio decals went? I was looking for

It's a combination of availability of food stops, what's at those food
stops, and how much time you want to spend. My "inner man" has been
known to be fussy, and on more than one occasion things I've eaten on
long rides have disagreed with me.

Also, the quality of "food" varies a lot. The first time I did that
brevet, I bought a hamburger at Royal Farms at mi 105 and discovered
that after a day under the particle beams employed to maintain heat,
whatever that hamburger was originally made of underwent a rather
disturbing metamorphosis, being transmuted into something that quite
turned my stomach. That's bad under any circumstances, but especially
detrimental in the final 20% of a long ride in which every mile is
adding to your lifetime "longest ever."

There's a limit to how much junk food I can stand. Earlier this year on
a Permanent I was reduced to buying a lottery ticket, because all the
available "food" I saw in the store made the gorge rise. If every
convenience store was like that bakery/coffee shop, it would be another
story. I don't know if I could live on pecan sticky buns, but by god I
would be willing to try!

Finally, being a cycling snail, I can't afford to spend the sort of time
the fast folk do at eating establishments. I honor them for their use
of time, and have far more respect for people who sit down and eat a
real honest to god meal than those who suck slime from a little packet,
but you've got to be a lot faster than I am to be able to burn an hour
and a half at a restaurant eating lunch!

[RBW] Pleasant surprise

2011-11-13 Thread dougP
I hadn't clicked thru the photos on the website in a while & noticed
the lead one was new. Lots of new-to-me pix, including that awesome
shot of Rene's Hunq. Several with amazing clouds, sunsets / sunrises,
etc. There's more than enough there for a Rivendell calendar.or
two or three. Some of us still like to use paper calendars with a
new, wonderful photo each month. Anyone else think this is
worthwhile? Maybe a tie-in for the 2013 charity?

Have you seen the anti-theft skewers from Velo Orange? They use a special
Allen wrench which you can easily carry, and have a nice, clean look. I
find them very easy to use. VO also makes some high-flange hubs that you
could pair with them. Just another thought. Steve
