[RBW] Re: Someone scratched my Brooks...advice?
Brett, Learning to accept scratches (to your brooks or bike) is one of the things in life that you have to come to on your own. There are a few things you can do, proofide, saddle soap or obenaufs to try and buff them out, shoe polish if you want to get more aggresive. None of them will really return it to new out of the box but they will lessen the effect. But really, after a few hundred miles it will all blend in with the wear from your butt (per Rob). and if it's any comfort, imagine how i felt when i got my first scratch in my $200+ berthoud--caused by me too, if you take your bike out it will happen eventually. And look at it this way, you'll never get that characteristically worn in look that old brooks get if you don't get some scratches into it. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: [RBW] What's the verdict on the Foss inner tubes?
Well, I've not encountered any goat heads since I put the Foss on my custom. I'm skeptical about how that would/will go. I'm pretty sure the Foss only works when the offending penetrator remains engaged (sounds a bit clinical?) Saw some youtube video that was the belts + suspenders approach - Slime in a Foss. Goatheads are famous for being heinous. Patrick Moore seems to have expertise in battling this affliction. [RBW] Epic! Where winds are fierce and men are manly and bikes are steel.
I was the only cyclist to brave the winds today -- or, at least I saw no other -- as I took the Fargo the 17 m rt to church. Winds 46 gusts to 56 on this side of town (NW -- at the airport to the south, gusts to 64)) and I found myself at one point standing in the 69 gear on a downhill. I also almost got blown against the wall along the bridge over the Rio Grande twice by fierce gusts coming up the river. But the worst thing was the brownout sand in places -- the ground cover here, at least when you get more than 1/2 mile from the river, is very sparse and where it has been disturbed by clearing, even years ago, immense clouds of fine brown sand are kicked up and fill the air. Odd, because the last several days have been absolutely beautiful: 7 low 70s, low humidity and very light breezes. Patrick and I didn't downshift, either except briefly to the 56 for the one, 2/5 mile steep hill -- wind gusts are like a turbocharger kick-in Moore -- Patrick Moore Albuquerque, NM For professional resumes, contact Patrick Moore, ACRW http://resumespecialties.com/index.html -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Patrick and I didn't downshift, either except briefly to the 56 for the one, 2/5 mile steep hill -- wind gusts are like a turbocharger kick-in Moore -- Patrick Moore Albuquerque, NM For professional resumes, contact Patrick Moore, ACRW http://resumespecialties.com/index.html On Sunday, March 18, 2012 1:28:57 PM UTC-6, Patrick Moore wrote: I was the only cyclist to brave the winds today -- or, at least I saw no other -- as I took the Fargo the 17 m rt to church.
