Good to know about these shorts. They're the same price as MUSAs and seem
to be more the fit that I want.

For shirts, I picked up two of these last year on sale and they've been
good. I wish the color would button down but otherwise they're great.

[RBW] Re: Riv MUSA shorts compared to Patagonia baggies?

2013-06-16 Thread Matthew J
I hate wearing sun screen thus knickers are by far the preferred choice
over shorts.

MUSA knickers are very good. Wish they came in lighter colors. Patagonia
does not sell knickers but every year comes out with some iteration of a
light weight mid-calf climbing short:

http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/mens-rock-craft-capris-22-inch?p=58245-0-759

(this year's version already sold out in 33, blast!). Hard to say I really
have a preference between the two. Both move easy and are comfortable on
long rides. MUSA have reflective strips so would be my preference after
dark.

Swrve makes some very nice light weight knickers which I prefer over both
the MUSA and Patagonia. Swrve wear better for me and the pockets hold more
things while keeping them out of the way.

Re: [RBW] Re: Artisinal Axes

2013-06-16 Thread Matthew J
This is just begging for Bike Snob commentary.

If so, it would be typical BS ignorance. Riv's are popular with cycle
campers. Campers have been bringing axes along with them since, well,
camping started. Dig up a Roman army camp somewhere and I am sure you will
find an axe. Maybe a little Ewing will work as well as the axes Riv is
selling. But it is nice to see small run Swedish made alternatives.

[RBW] Looking for a Rivendell frame for my sister

Well, excellent! My sister wants to start riding again after a long
break. I've got everything I need for her bike except a frame. I would
love to put her on a Rivendell but it needs to be used. Her PBH is 76 -
77'ish.

I am planning an upright build with B67, and Alba or flattish bars.

If you have a frame that would fit her plese let me know.

Re: [RBW] Re: speaking of the blug... new Atlas rim

Roger, if your rim is mill finished, then it would be the no BS version
of the Atlas . As you mention, it's likely a marketing term, but it's an
Atlas just like the others minus the polishing. The cost reduction appears
to be simply the less production cost in the finishing.

wheels to use.

$120 shipped to lower 48 states. $100 local pick up.

If you are using 8s cassette, I can include a good lightly used one.

Thanks,
Ron

I use kerosene, it gets through the mastic and is fairly benign. But then,
it's what I have handy, there are lots of other faster treatments you
