[RBW] Large saddlesack simplest and/or cheapest way to mount on a bike without a rack and no eyelets?

2016-02-26 Thread drew
The large is huge. Even the medium is as big or bigger than the largest
carradice. Why go so big if you only want to haul light loads? In my
experience, the large/wide/flat bottom of saddlesacks necessitates a rack or
flattish support system for optimal use, where a rounder bottom bag can hang or
sit on a hupe/bagman/alternative seat mounted support easier.

I'm sure somebody has done it, but for my personal taste, even a mark's rack on
the rear wasn't enough of a base for the large saddlesack.

[RBW] Large saddlesack simplest and/or cheapest way to mount on a bike without a rack and no eyelets?

2016-02-26 Thread Daniel D.
I have three bikes I'd like to use with a saddlesack. I'd rather buy the
large not the medium. But one of the bikes, an older road bike, doesn't
have eyelets. Is there a cheap and easy way to get the large saddlesack
installed on a bike with no rack? Only going to carry light loads on that
bike at most 10 pounds.

Re: [RBW] Rodeo photeo

2016-02-26 Thread Don Compton
I was the original owner.
A little history: when Riv first came out with the Roadeo, I e-mailed Grant
P that I was excited for Riv to offer a road-oriented bike. I told I wanted
one and he offered me his frame. I drove to Riv in Walnut Creek and after
going the crazy color books, Grant talked me into "Mary's blue". Mary is
Grant's wife and it's her favorite color. It's a light gray blue with a
gold overspray.
I sold this bike because I was having crotch problems with my Brooks
saddles. Well, I foung a Specialized Mtn saddle and bought another Roadeo
and sold all but two of my bikes. I ride my current on every ride.

Hi Rene, it's a baby blue but I don't know the exact color. I bought it
from the group member Don Compton so he would be the one to ask. He might
have told be but I can't remember. I like it as well so thanks.

Hi Doug, I have used the Compass Barlow Pass 38mm on the Rodeo and they
work very nice. There isn't a lot of clearance in the chain stays but I
have off-roaded single track with Dr. Greenblatt and it worked awesome. I
have those tires running on my Ritchey Breakaway Titanium Cyclocross and
really like them on that bike. They are a little difficult to seat on the
Ritchey Zeda II tubeless ready wheels but that might be more the rims than
tires. I finally got them going with no lumps and it's going well. I'll
have to forward a picture of that bike sometime. I thought the swell was
winding down but would be great to see some bigger waves tomorrow. Although
I'm mountain biking along my older daughters track team tomorrow morning.

Cheers,

Once I was riding after a storm in Ellicott City, and a tree was across the
road. It looked high enough to ride under so as I approached I went into a
tuck with my adam's apple placed gently on the bar tops, face looking down
at the pavement. Not smart.

I barely passed under the limb.

I learned that when riding, trees across the road are lower than they
look. I hop off now and scoot under.

nice bearings and nice robust grippy pins might be really good.

On your crankset are you really asking for your two chianrings to be 36T
and 40T? That's like a half step without granny in the subcompact size
range. That's cool if that's what you want and/or need. A lot of people
will tell you that you need a higher gear than 40 x 12, or will at least
tell you why they need a higher gear then 40x12. If you live in a
non-hilly area, then I guess the other consideration is a 1x9.

well...I'm taking a chance...it's real hard to tell on my monitor ...like
Maroon, Dark rose and berry red are like a red wine colour, and that's kind
of what I'm hoping for. It would be nice to see a Du-pont Imron colour book
in the flesh. I know Grant has also suggested using Crayola crayons colour
labels as a good thing to describe colour

Something like Homer's wine-dark sea...Patrick Moore will lke that I bet:)

Also witness the plastic half gal or even gal buckets of lard routinely
sold in some NM grocery stores, at least those near the Navajo reservation,
along with 25 lb cloth bags of bleached flour for Fry Bread. I know that I
stored an *unopened *1 lb package of lard for ~1 year in my pantry closet
before I got tired of looking at it and tossed it; no smell.

I love it. The fork, bars, crank... all of it. I wonder what rack they have in

2016-02-26 Thread Ryan Fleming
Actually, I like the dark mustard/dirty banana colour a lot...so much so
that my 2001 Road was painted that colour, though at the time it was called
Harvest Gold.If you remember the 70's colour scheme of avocado, harvest
gold and brick/terra-cotta , you can imagine some of the grief I endured.
But I'm glad I picked the colour. I think your photos give a clearer
impression. I'm not so sure about the shade of blue...I thought it would
be more like the SH blue, which I think is a really nice colour

I like those Appaloosas a lot; I really like the bars, silver cranks and
hubs, and the spoke protector...well it's not too intrusive. About the
only thing that I'd ditch would be the saddle ; that's fugly, but saddle
preferences are so personal , for the terrific intro price you could get
another saddle you like. Hope the Appaloosa buyers enjoy their new bikes,
though

Re: [RBW] Re: Lower Handlebars for Loaded Baskets & Porteur Racks?

2016-02-26 Thread Hunter Harr
Over six feet tall, and proportioned tall in the body, so very tall
sitting. I had no problem with that load, which was an outlier. Main use of
that bike was grocery shopping. The rack would fit two standard reusable
shopping bags perfectly. Now sitting, flop was a problem, see strap. But
riding was easy, and the grips are a fair distance from rack and load.

Never even considered trying to stand a pedal on this thing. But must point
out, FLORIDA, not much in the way of hills.

I would think that it is based on your fit on a bicycle. Thigh
flexibility, how far you sit back on the bicycle etc and where your knee is
over toe is probably going to determine the best crank length.

Re: [RBW] Re: "Store Credit" on BLUG

2016-02-26 Thread Philip Kim
Could it be because they are possibly moving to offering more completes
rather than frames with builds? This would require more money upfront than
just frames only. I think the completes are a pretty good idea, as I'm sure
they can make a bit more money, and make sure they don't have too much dead
stock. Plus the customer gets a great price. $2100 for preordered Appaloosa
is really good, comparable to a higher end QBP bike.

2016-02-26 Thread jeffrey kane
PDK is right: Riv pic uploads tend to run dark and dull -- hmm, maybe
that's a trick they employ to make the first time you behold one in real
life seem all the more special? ('cause for sure, they rarely seem to not
pick good colors there) -- anyway, I'm thinking maybe my company should
offer them some kind of services swap! :) Note shameless plug:
