[RBW] Re: Appaloosa, mo bettah pics (hopefully)

2016-07-10 Thread Joe Bernard
Linda, I was there yesterday, and I'm still sold on the blue. I looked at the
mustard Appa and it's gorgeous, but this confirmed my sense that light blue has
more "stay" with me..that I will still love it years from now.

I went through this process when I bought my FIAT Abarth three years ago. I
liked black w/red, but I kept looking at white w/ red, too. I almost popped for
that, then I took another hard look at the black and asked myself what would be
a better fit for me, day in and day out. Black w/ red it was, and I'm always
happy with it. It's more "me". Enjoy your Clem!

[RBW] BBH Closing?

2016-07-10 Thread Marc40a
I was just reading the old Roscoe Bubbe blug tonight and noticed:

"Most of you don’t know, but we have spawned a micro-store in fancy downtwon
Walnut Creek. It’s about 2.5 years into what will be the end of its 3-year
lease. "

That's was dated March of this year.

So, there it is.

2016-07-10 Thread David Stein
Irving - I'm flexible and that works for me. Let's shoot for 10AM at WC
BART (or 10:30 at the Indian Valley Elementary entrance to the park).

Nick - thanks for offering and if you have a route from that entrance that
would be awesome. Let me know if you can't make it for any reason and I'll
plan accordingly, or feel free to shoot over a route map from ride with gps
or google maps or whatever. Otherwise I just rely on the one from
BayAreaRides.

Everyone else - instead of taking roll, just plan on being at one of those
two spots at the appropriate time and shoot me a PM if you're running a
little late.

We'll ramble around Shell Ridge and head to BBH after, bring some spending
money ;). Weather of as of now looks on the warm side, but still in the low
80's.

What a beautiful baby! What do you actually call her? Becky? Lynne?
Rebecca Lynne? We called our grandson "His Tinyness" and our
granddaughter "XYZ" (which are her initials). Our daughter swears we
called her "Aaaron-Sage-Suzanne" which showed her lineage behind her
brother and the family dog.

You wont always be able to appreciate it when she is having a meltdown but
this is the best thing that has ever happened. Bless you and her and her
mother on this sacred journey.

Life is good.

That's helpful, Joe, especially since (if I remember correctly) you (like
me) had picked out the dark mustard Clem. I've put in a request to change
my pre-order back to the blue. I can hardly wait to see it in person and
to get my feet on the pedals! Glad you are so happy with your Appaloosa.

Wow, Tony, she's lovely! You've got a whole new life dimension in your
hands.

You've also got a new perspective on riding...more short rides...and soon
more company.

Congrats. Totally.

[RBW] Re: Some things change, some stay the same

2016-07-10 Thread Tony DeFilippo
Thanks Patrick! I opted for 2.25 Nobby Nic's for the trail ride so I'll
have to go back and do a direct comparison. I expect I'd see a difference
in 2 big area's; slow (very) speed climbing on loose dirt and taking large
roots/rocks/obstacles without a good approach. In my granny I was climbing
slowly on dirt and really felt the knob's biting in and helping me climb
and I think I'd miss that w/ the SBH's and probably get off and walk abut
15' sooner... not a big deal. And as far as rolling over stuff just having
the extra volume and stiffer sidewalls makes me think the Nobby Nic's ride
better. I'll bet on anything else I'd prefer the SBH's for the speed and
amazing cush though.

Thanks Daniel! I think the huge impact will be once my wife - Erika, goes
back to work in Oct which means I'll be involved in some kind of day care
drop off which means my regular bike commute will at least be different if
not eliminated for a while. But recreational rides are definitely going to
be few and far between. I really can't wait for the Yepp Mini rides with
her!

Congratulations!

You'll find that though the kid initially cuts your riding down by about
112%, at 8 months or so pulling a trailer with the noob will be some of the
most biking fun you've ever had.

And then, when she graduates to the up front Yepp Mini on your Bomba, oh
boy the fun begins!

Congratulations, Mama and Papa Tony and Rebecca! She's beautiful, so
thankfully took after her mother, aye? Grin.

I saw this on your blog (sans Rebecca) and wondered if you'd ridden that
trail with the 48mm Compass, and if so, how it did?

I'd like to introduce my daughter Rebecca Lynne, born 6/23/2016. She and
her mother are doing great, we've been enjoying the first two weeks home
from the hospital and couldn't be happier. I can't wait to get her started
on bicycling adventures in about 6 months or so... whenever I get the
clearance from my wife!

Bike/Riv tie in - I took 2 weeks of leave after Rebecca arrived and my wife
and I each tried to give each other a couple opportunities out of the house
to do our own thing during that time. Last Thursday I took the Bombadil
from smooth tired/fendered/racked commuter back to its fat-knobby
singletrack roots and had a great evening over at Wakefield Park in
Annandale VA. Another fun change is my new 'Bike-Delivery-Vehicle', a 2006
Honda Ridgeline which I've already added a DIY bed fork mount to. Worked
great w/ the Bombadil as you'll see.

[RBW] WTB nitto rear bag support

Thanks all! I got a fair deal on a used R-10 and picked up a bagman expedition
from overseas. I'll report back. As of now I'm thinking the Sam will get the
nitto and tree top bag and the QB gets bagman and sackville.

[RBW] Re: WTB Mark's rack!

2016-07-10 Thread Deacon Patrick
Jon,

These are lovely racks, so folks tend to hold on to them, though they do
pop up every other now and then for around $100 (but be quick, 'cause this
group moves fast!). If you need it now, skip a dinner out and buy it from
Rivendell, along with some handlebar tape or loose bits to get the "free"
shipping and Bob's your uncle in a safe of houses. Grin.

With abandon,
Patrick
