Re: [RBW] My Cantis cant get no respect.

2017-01-12 Thread George Schick
If I'm not mistaken, those are Tektro 857AL brakes. They have the extra
long 110mm arms for fender clearance. I bought one a few years ago for my
Surly 1x1 that has wheels with 60mm Big Apple tires covered by SKS P65 MTB
fenders. They just clear the fenders with a couple of mm's to spare.

A prize for modulation? They give prizes for not having any? In my -
admittedly limited - experience, V brakes have all the modulation of an
electric light switch and all the simplicity of the binary numbering
system: ON and OFF with nothing in between. Then, there's butt ugly,

[RBW] Re: Has anyone used this bell?

2017-01-12 Thread 'Bikie#4646' via RBW Owners Bunch
Steve, I'm down near Richmond, but can attest to the worthiness of the
Spurcycle bell. I was a part of the original Kickstarter campaign. After
that, I purchased two more (at considerably higher prices)! Very elegant,
minimalist and a nice piercing sound that gets attention. These guys did a
great job of design, down to the wonderful packaging. With each I received,
I felt like I was unwrapping a Faberge' egg! What sold me over anything
else was the ingenious way it attaches without screws, nuts, etc. Most of
that portion is hidden away inside the bell, with only the slender (maybe
5mm) stainless strap showing. Clean! Treat yourself!

[RBW] Re: Huge Rosco Mixte

2017-01-12 Thread Jim S.
Re the long effective top tube on this frame, it's interesting to note that
the Rosco Bubbe version 2, 55.5 cm frame, has an even longer effective top
tube, 66 cm. (Which I like.)

Re: [RBW] My Cantis cant get no respect.

2017-01-12 Thread Jock Dewey
Wow! There are similar squabblings taking place right now vis-a-vis
cranksets on the BOB list.

I've collected a stash of NOS Suntour XC pro cantis over the years as they
are, to my eye, just delightfully elegant and simple. Those gleaming
pointy-hat fixing bolts just make me smile.

But I digress; I have them installed on three very nice bicycles, with
thick, chunky Scott-Mathauser pads & thin Eagle (orange) pads and they were
all easily adjusted with no squealing. I ride fast (sometimes) and have
just never noticed any fork flex or modulation issues. And I've never run a
red light or careened off a mountain pass...yes we have mountains in
GA--including two formidable up & downs: Hogpen Gap & Brasstown Bald. Man,
if you don't bend a fork braking down either one of those beasts, you ain't
gonna bend a fork, ha!

I guess, with nearly all things bicycle, this wise rule applies: YMMV.

I'm in. This will be the new toddler driver. Long CS and all that step over
make for a perfect dirt road dadbike.

Does anyone know of a shop in the DC/MVA area that sells Spurcycle bells, and
actually has some on display?
Thanks.
