Hey Chris,

I was not the one who purchased it. I did inquire being local guy and all but
it had already sold. Probably a good thing because I don't really need it. I
already have 3 Salsa Ti bikes that I really like and fulfill all my biking
needs. I will say that I've always wondered what a 54cm Hunq would ride like
compared to all the other Rivendell's I've owned. It was my favorite color as
well.

Happy for the new owner. I hope they enjoy it!

Re: [RBW] Re: Front loads on Rivendell bicycles -- how heavy?

2017-07-15 Thread Patrick Moore
Bill -- I'm always glad when my maunderings unexpectedly offer benefit.

To expand on the subject: I never front loads on my Ram; all my loading was
by Ortlieb Roller Packers on a Tubus Fly. But the Ram handled loads up to
30 or 35 lbs with aplomb, meaning poise -- no wagging, at least none that I
noticed, and no diminution of stability in straight or in turn. I think
that I carried up to 10 lb more in back, and while that did affect things
more, it wasn't horrible. In all, the Ram carried rear loads (with nothing
in front) better than the '03 Road custom that I now use as my errand bike,
though the 03 works fine. (I do have front lowrider racks o the '03
precisely for loads much heavier than 35 lb.)

Patrick Moore, who carried 25 lb home t'other day 6 miles in a single

[RBW] Re: Anybody recognize this handlebar?

2017-07-15 Thread blakcloud

What I like about the Metropolis is the angle of my wrist, it seems just a
natural position for my hands. I should also add that I used Ergon grips to
make the bar even more comfortable. The bar has a slight rise or if you
want a more cafe style, mount it the other way. The flats after the bends
are a great place for your hands or forearms for one more position with
this style of bar. The bar is stiff with no noticeable flex.

Here is a link to the comparison between the Map/Ahearne bar with the FSA
Metropolis

Re: [RBW] Re: Perennial "Can you still get a Legolas?" question

2017-07-15 Thread Leslie
Ok, so, awhile back, I was seriously considering getting a Legolas, was
talking to Mark about it, it was right when they decided to have Nobilette
build them and the price jumped, so I hesitated, then came across a
canti-Romulus, picked it up instead. Now, I'm not saying that a
canti-Rom is the same thing as a Legolas, but, it was awfully close, and
met my needs at the time. Very similar tubing I think, both have
canti-brakes... the geometry has some differences (for my size on a 59 the
canti-Rom has a 72-deg-seat-tube-angle, a 73-deg-head-tube-angle, and a
77mm BB drop; the Legolas has a 73-deg-ST and a 72.5-deg-HT, and a 70-drop;
the rear on the Rom is 132.5-wide, the Leg is 130; the chainstay was the
same at 44, the top-tube was only 0.5cm longer on the Leg, the fork rake is
4.25 on the canti-Rom and 4.5 on the Leg).Anyway, point being, they're
not the same bike, but they're awfully similar.

I am running MSO's, they're a 40mm tire. I have no spare clearance. If I
overinflate, the rear tire will start to rub the braze-on on the underneath
of the stay between the seatstays
(https://www.flickr.com/photos/leslie_bright/16190324065/in/album-72157623199721925/).

I have to ensure I don't have too much air in the rear tire to keep it
from rubbing.I should probably downsize my tires, but I really like the
MSO's, really don't want to switch, so, I've left it alone for now. (For
safety's sake, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, would want to avoid such
liability, etc YMMV)

i rode for a number of weeks with the same bag, unsupported, on my
