Niobium is element 41, a transition metal. It was previously called
columbium, but the name change was some time ago.

Niobium bike tubes are steel with a wee bit of niobium alloyed in. It
presumably changes the properties of the steel in some way I can't be
bothered to worry about.

[RBW] Re: Billie Bars?

2018-08-04 Thread Reid Echols
I have the Billie bars on my Appaloosa, and really like them for road/town/path
riding. That said, if your gravel rides include even slightly technical terrain
(or you plan on riding aggressively out of the saddle) I’d highly recommend
Albastache bars, which I have run on my sscx bike with great success. The
security of the hooks is welcome on technical descents, and the outer handles
work great for leverage when climbing out of the saddle. The Billies come back
a bit far for this kind of use, imo. If you still want to use flat bar levers,
ive heard great things able the Salsa Bend bars in a 20 degree or so sweep.

[RBW] Re: Sealant Seepage

2018-08-04 Thread Nick Payne
I've not seen that problem, despite getting some pretty damn hot days here
in Australia, and I have quite a number of bike wheels setup tubeless with
sealant. That doesn't look like sealant either coming out of the sidewalls
or from the interface between tyre and rim. What sealant are you using?

For making sure that tubeless rim tape is properly adhered to the rim,
after building a wheel and installing the tape, I first mount a tyre with a
tube in it, inflate to a reasonable pressure, and leave at least overnight,
so that the tube can do a good job of pressing the tape firmly onto the rim
bed.

As an aside, I had my first ever puncture this morning that the sealant
couldn't close - a 3-4mm long gash through the tread, presumably from a
piece of glass. As I had a tyre worm kit with me, I cut off a piece of
worm, stuck it in the gash with the provided tool, spun the wheel,
re-inflated it, and continued my ride. That was certainly more convenient
than having to remove the wheel, dismount the tyre with sealant getting
everywhere, and then install a tube.
