[RBW] Re: Nitto M18 vs Mini Front for carrying a basket

2019-05-11 Thread Mark Schneider
J. I've used baskets with both, but I tend to use front baskets on these
racks for light bulky items. They feel about the same, and I've never ad an
issue with them at all. Grant has always rated them at 4 pounds capacity
for each. My MUSA Atlantis and Homer don't like more than 2-3 pounds up
front IMO. I prefer to hang my generator lights off racks so that's at
least 50% of my motivation for running a front rack (on my Riv's). I have a
low trail fork with a Rawland Demiporteur rack on an old Litespeed
conversion, that rack is rated to 22 pounds, and the bike handles best with
5 pounds up front (or more). These are heavier and less finished, but they
work well and I have run them close to capacity (chainsaw).

[RBW] Re: Closest geared Riv to QuickOne?

2019-05-11 Thread 'Dave Small' via RBW Owners Bunch
Hi Ted,

The SO doesn't seem to sync with me quick as well as the QB or the AHH.
When I ride the QB or AHH I think I'm riding the perfect bike, but the SO
is just good. I think the most likely reason for the difference is the
tires. The builds of all 3 and my positions on all 3 are similar---all
have drop handlebars that are even with or just slightly above the
saddle---but I have 38mm Compass tires on the QB, cream 35mm Delta Cruisers
on the SO, and Jack Brown greens on the Hilsen. The Compass tires came on
the QB and it's my first experience with them, but their feel on the QB has
made me think there might be something valid behind all the hype. The SO
and QB are at different locations so I can't compare them side-by-side or
experiment with tire swaps, or else I'd do that to test my hypothesis.

2019-05-11 Thread John Phillips
I feel I have forgotten an important piece of bicycle wisdom:

My Tallux stem can only go about 125mm into the fork on my Hunqapillar,
but is it safe to tighten the stem where it bottoms out, or should I raise
the stem above this point before tightening the stem bolt?

If so, how far, in mm's or cm's, should I raise the stem before it's
safe to tighten the stem bolt?

Sorry for the stupid question, but thanks for any advice/help you can give
me.
