[RBW] Re: Brewing tips for Cold Coffee Whilst Bikepacking
Today I used a bigger bandanna, lined my mug with it like a cheese cloth, shook the thermos to get the grounds out with it, poured the mug full, twisted it as I lifted it to force filter it and squeeze the grounds and the coffee was great and smooth. Easy clean up to shake out the grounds into a stick dug hole and mix them into the dirt. Even in a spot with clear bear and mountain lion tracks in the last few weeks, no animal dig-up over the last week from the last few experiments. Bandanna dries in 37 seconds in the sun. Grin. I used to wear Defeet Armskins in the summer and while they are not officially UV rated (as they are intended for cool/old weather) they worked great. They are rather thick tubular knit that cools your arms as you perspire underneath them. I had tried some UV arm sleeves from Amazon but none of them were form fitting as they were not a tubular knit, which literally wraps around your arms so no gripper stuff that wears off is necessary. They were basically non form fitting fabric sewn together with a silly seam and reminded me more of a shirt sleeve they cut off and stuck some gripper stuff on the end and called declared "Look, a UV arm sleeve !". Ahahahaha ! I did a search on amazon for compression uv arm sleeves and these are one example that fit the bill for being tubular and seamless. https://www.amazon.com/Protection-Cooling-Arm-Sleeves-Activities/dp/B07KYMF4KF . Roberta, I want to know how your arm sleeves work out. I hate using sunscreen (I use natural stuff and it’s white and goopy) because you’re right - the arms get an obscene amount of sun in summer riding. I’ll be interested to know how they look and if they’re hot and how comfortable they are. Thanks, Phil, and everyone else. I'll be trying gloves, first those fishing gloves that Garth pointed me to, since they have the added bonus of sun protection. I bought arm sun sleeves last month so that I could stop needing sunscreen on my arms, but still needed to put it in the back of my hands. If they don't work, I'll try the other glove suggestions.
