Excellent point, Mark. I pre-ordered mine the other day.

I love pre-orders. It's like a gift I sent to myself from the past, because
I've usually forgotten that I ordered it.

[RBW] Re: Selling a frame

2019-09-17 Thread Mark Roland
Yeah, definitely. You don't install a built in swimming pool or redo the
kitchen right before listing your house. Paint job for bike equals major
expenditure that will not increase the value enough to cover the cost of
the paint job, never mind the potential aggravation.

[RBW] Selling a frame

2019-09-17 Thread John Aydelotte
Question for the group:

After 10+ years, I have decided to part with my Atlantis. Many reasons,
most of which I won't go into here, but this 56cm frame has always been
JUST a bit too small for me. I recently rode a bicycle which fit like a
glove and realized what I'd been missing.

Here's the question. Many of the parts are worn - I have ridden the heck
out of this thing for years, as a commuter, randonneur, utility bike...you
name it. I'm keeping the racks, moving the wheels to other bikes. So this
is just a frame. Should I paint and sell, or sell as-is?

This frame has a fair amount of what Grant calls "beausage". Scratches,
surface rust, nicks, rubs, etc... No significant damage. The
perfectionist in me wants to send it to Riv, have them paint it, and then
sell. My practical side thinks I won't recoup the cost in the final
price. Someone may not care about the wear-and-tear and may even want to
paint it a different color.

What's the group consensus - sell as-is, or get it showroom-ready?

Thanks in advance,

John

[RBW] Re: RBW 25 -Atlantic side of things

2019-09-17 Thread Alex Wirth- Owner, Yellow Haus Bicycles
Alright folks here’s three points that will be helpful wrangling campers,
drivers and permits etc.

https://goo.gl/maps/o7VsC6uvaCTiZZGA7

(This is essentially a google maps route that starts at the campground, stops
at the visitor center (permits) and ends at the ride start/minnewaska parking
lot)

Meet at the campground parking lot at 10 if you’re camping and/or want to ride
to the start. Meet at the ‘Ride Start’/minnewaska parking lot at 11 ready to
roll. (Refer to directions linked above)

I think the only people that will need to pay for minnewaska are people that
drive in/and park. Everyone will need to pick up a permit at the Shawangunk
Visitor Center whether you ride or drive (See directions above).

Of note:

Riding from the campground to the ride start/minnewaska parking lot is about 6
miles and 1,200 feet of elevation. The rest of the route is pretty tame. (the
views and downhills are worthy of the effort imho)

[RBW] Re: Creaking + Nitto Noodle stem compatibility

2019-09-17 Thread Luke
The quill of my technomic creaks in the head tube when it's not lubed, or
hasn't been lubed in a while. It happens at wide enough intervals that I
forget where the creaking is coming from and let it drive me crazy for a
while before I remember it's the quill ha ha.

2019-09-17 Thread Eric Grim
I use seed lac or button lac, dissolved in denatured alcohol of course, to
soak the jute twine on my bars. Both darken the twine, which is OK with

much, but I am confident it will still darken it some.

[RBW] FS - quality 27" wheelset - Phil Wood/Weylss/Super Champion

2019-09-17 Thread velomann
Long shot perhaps, but I have a higher quality 27" wheelset for sale if
you're looking for some nice wheels for a vintage bike.

Both wheels are 36 spoke laced to Super Champion rims in excellent
condition.
Rear hub is older Phil Wood, 120 spacing.
Front is very smooth and hard to find Weyless hub with original skewer. For
more on Weyless hubs see here:
http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx?ID=53a75029-53eb-41b8-af6a-3293a0d31d34

$75 plus shipping or pick up in Portland.

Conversely, if you just want the hubs I'm willing to unlace the wheels.
Price is still $75 + shipping which would obviously be cheaper.

See on CL ad here:
https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/bop/d/portland-vintage-27-wheelset-phil-wood/6976432786.html

FYI there’s a killer traditional German Restaurant called Mountain Brauhaus
about 4 mins/.5 mi from the campground. I plan on riding over around 6 on
Friday night. They’re only open till 9 pm so it gets a little packed/crazy on
the weekends. If anyone would like to join me, let me know and I’ll make a
reservation (otherwise I’ll take a risk waiting for a bar spot).

Also there’s a nice deli across the street from the restaurant open 6:30

to die for. So, if you’re not into camp food there’s other options very close

cheaper just to buy a complete Ebike. It will work better then a converted bike

I don't think it's a matter of finances really; the seat lug pictured was a
