[RBW] Walking boots -- not entirely unrelated to cycling

2020-02-20 Thread Drw
Danner light ii doesn’t fulfill many of your requirements but they are the best
boot I’ve ever worn. Most comfortable, longest lasting, insanely durable. I’ve
worn them on wild hikes, but more often they are shoes I take traveling. I’ve
had mine for 10 years and they will easily go another 10.

I am thinking of replacing my walking shoes, a worthy but unexceptional
pair from an REI parking lot sale a few years ago.

I'd like to find something that supports the ankles, has Vibram soles, is
not excessively heavy, and that has replaceable -- Goodyear welt? -- soles.
Laces only, in case walking shoes have been loaded with bike-shoe-type
"technology."

Bonus points if they are brown or black leather that can be wax-polished to
restore looks.

Ideas?

Redwing has some likely-looking models, but I know next to nothing about
walking boots.

Suggestions?

Placement should correlate with the rack you are likely to use, too. If you
already have one, figure out optimal position for leveling and adjusting
without the struts being difficult to connect.

[RBW] Rack Boss placement- Atlantis, Appaloosa

2020-02-20 Thread Gabriel Hargrove
For someone that is looking to further future-proof, so to say, a vintage
frame by having some rack bosses brazed on, are there standard measurements
usually followed for the rear bosses?
In the front, for instance, mid fork hourglass boss tend to be 165mm from
dropout eyelet to mid-fork. My 2007 Atlantis has none on the front, and
just the pair on the seat stays spaced ~395mm from eyelet to hourglass.
Other bikes on my wall measure approximately the same. (FWIW, the frame
going under the torch is a vintage Trek with almost no braze-ons- not the
Atlantis.)

Looking at the new Atlantis and Appaloosa models there are as many as six
on the rear, as well as, another pair on the back side of the fork. My
thinking, If I'm buying a pack of ten bosses, is "Might as well use as many
of them as I can".

Was hoping someone might be able to shed some light (or an Appaloosa riders
take a measurement) on the others there.

Re: [RBW] Re: Advice Needed: Best Remedy for a Slipping Hunqapillar Seatpost

2020-02-20 Thread hugh flynn
'Twas a time that builders used special bolts in seatpost binders. They
were a socket and bolt combo that fit through holes in the seat lug tabs.
One side was free to spin (the bolt side) and the other side (the socket
side) had a key on the collar that fit into a slot cast into the lug to
prevent it from turning.

Those slots are there for the "key" on the socket side of the seatpost bolt
arrangement. One could choose which side to put the keyed socket in I
guess, but you'd never use both keyed sides at the same time or you would
be able to tighten the seatpost binder.

2020-02-20 Thread Grady Wright
I got a call from Will yesterday saying that my frame has arrived and will
be shipping soon. I asked him about the orange color and he said that the
color is like the Susie orange. He said the photo's posted by Blue Lug
don't represent the actual color.
Looking forward to seeing all the new Appaloosa builds!

[RBW] Re: FS: new wooly sweater medium

2020-02-20 Thread Drw
I'd say that the cheviot sweater is a much slimmer fit, but has a TON of
stretch. so it fits me and is not constricting at all, but is more form
fitting than i like. if it had to go under a jacket or something, it would
probably be perfect. I live in CA though, so if i wear a sweater, its
usually my outermost layer. id also consider a trade for a large.

How do other sweaters you have compare to the Cheviot Medium measurements?
